How Much?

Everyone reading knows what a budget is?
  • an estimate of income and expenditure for a set period of time
The Rule at our house is "if you don't have the money, don't spend it."

Not in Chicago though:
  • Ald. Carrie Austin (34th) last year spent 65 percent more than the annual amount allotted to the City Council’s Budget Committee she chaired in the run-up to a federal raid on her ward office.

An annual audit known as the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report shows the Budget Committee’s annual budget was $543,968 and that Austin blew past it — by $352,629. The audit was conducted by the accounting firm of Deloitte & Touche LLP.

Sources attributed at least some of that over-spending to Austin’s decision to place Chester Wilson, her 34th Ward chief of staff, on the Budget Committee payroll at an annual salary of $118,440.
So we might have an initial clue as to the FBI's interest in Carrie's office to the point that they se3rved warrants a few weeks ago.

Boy, it's a good thing that Shortshanks and Rahm and now Groot have budgets to run the City on.

The amount of taxpayer money used in all these schemes is staggering. This is peanuts. Too bad there cant be a forensic audit of the city , county, state and school system. If they stopped even half of it we would be out of debt in no time. Everyone knows it but no one can do a damned thing about it.

Sadly, things will continue just as they have for decades. The money is gone and will never re-appear. Leadership in Chicago is absent. There’s a little barking and plenty of finger pointing, but no bite. The city would be better off with a mob boss running it.

Don’t expect what you don’t inspect.

Why is the city spending big bucks on a new airport terminal? Clean the bathrooms up and a coat of paint will do wonders to the old terminal..

somehow these politicians need to be accountable for the money they waste. taxpayer funds may not be going directly into their pockets. but let's be clear. it does benefit the bastards indirectly.

democrats: vote for me i make it free!

ALL City Council meetings should be televised.

What are they trying to hide?

Nothing will happen to Austin but a very minor slap on the wrist. Loris buddy Lausch won’t allow a woman of color to be held accountable for enterprise corruption.

End the TIFs! Get the money back, that was given to companies like Sterling Bay, even if you have to get it from politicians campaign accounts! Put that money into the pension funds and that would be a good start....

A Mob boss is not a bad idea, they would take their cuts just as the aldermen and other honchos do but they would privately get rid of all bad eggs and anything else that stands in their way, including community rats

What good is a budget if you can keep spending money once you go over it.
If additional money is being spent over budget doesn’t it it need to be approved first and if so who is giving the approval.
Are there any consequences if you overspend or do they just budget you more next year?
I think I would flourish under a system like that.

You know, I've looked around the city's budget site.
Everytime someone wants to spend money, they have to enter about a 20 digit number, which is the funding account number. So, if you put in the funding account number, and the Dept. of Finance gets the paperwork and puts that number in the computer to pay that bill, how does that account get $357000 overdrawn??? Seems if there is no money, the request should be returned. Kind of like getting a slip rejected if too many people want off.

Budgets are just a suggestion in liberal/progressive democratic land. Take Illinois for an example. They raise taxes to pay off bills ( or so they say), then they increase spending even more to drive up more bills. They are coming for the middle class no matter what they say about " making the rich pay their fair share, or whatever that means). Next they will be coming after pensions, not only to lower pensions but to eventually tax them. That is where the money is and they know it.

The most despicable part of this is that Austin is still collecting a city paycheck and not put on unpaid leave.

Audits, whether forensic audits or simple tally of the monthly invoices and bank statements even if it’s a nuisance just a once a year requirement by the all so Incompetent City Inspector General, afterall it’s their responsibility. Nobody bothered to keep track.

Maybe it’s time for the IL Rev Dept, to sort it out...pass the buck so to speak.
Or IL Auditor General?
Who’s filing the papers, who ran the numbers through a program, shouldn’t that (in certain cases) trigger a red flag?
At what time does an nincompoop IL Atty General step in?
Never.

My guess the lazy, corrupt, Sanctuary First City leadership structure will nonchalantly rely on lengthy Fed investigations to do all the work.

Any honest, legitimate reasonable person or sensible group with an ounce of integrity would seek a Recall and Term Limit proposal.
98% of the City Council rejected this referendum on the last ballot.

As expected, the Walleye Lari looking the other way.

No forensic federal audit of the massive theft of taxpayers funds, no forensic audit of CPD pension funds, like who signed off giving daleys nephew over 60 million of "our money," that 60 million plus would of helped the retirees who rahm viciously removed their health care! Now we have lori giving literally truckloads of our money in tifs to connected construction companies the paybacks to their accounts must be phenomenal!
