Weekend Still Running Hot

As of 1600 hours yesterday, the totals were as follows:

• 6 killed, 67 wounded

It could still go higher. For comparison purposes, the last few years:

• 2018 weekend tally:10 killed, 42 wounded *
  2017 weekend tally: 15 killed, 89 wounded
  2016 weekend tally: 6 killed, 62 wounded
  2015 weekend tally: 11 killed, 55 wounded

These weekends weren't all true "weekends" as in Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Some ran long, some shorter. This one (by our reckoning) was about 4-and-a-third days. Still, seventy-three people with extra holes - there really ought to be a reckoning (right Groot?)

And these stats don't even count the stabbings which include three at Navy Pier and this particularly brutal one downtown (you remember Groot? Where tourists gather):

• About 11:30 p.m., six people were standing on a sidewalk in the first block of East Washington Street after ordering a ride-share service. A vehicle pulled over with a male driver and female passenger inside offering them a ride, according to Chicago police.
  
  The two groups began to argue, leading to the male and female exiting the vehicle to physically fight the six people outside. The male pulled out a knife during the altercation and stabbed a woman once in the abdomen and a man twice in the abdomen, police said.
  
  The woman, 27, was in critical condition after the attack, and the man, 26, was in serious condition. They were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, police said.

You know what we could use around here? Some stricter knife laws....like England has.
