Chicago Mass Shootings

All eyes are on El Paso and Dayton. Meanwhile, a denizen of the west side makes this astute observation:

• Though Chicago police officers and park visitors gathered at a crime scene in Douglas Park on Sunday clashed more than once, they seemed to agree on at least one thing: It shouldn’t be like this.
  
  Seven people had just been shot. An officer was telling a group of people waiting outside the yellow crime scene tape that Chicago doesn’t have to tolerate this volume of gun violence.
  
  [...] “We were chilling by the park,” he said. “It should have been a great night. But a lot of nights end up this way.”

Ending up like this? Two separate mass shootings in the 010 District resulting in fourteen shot

• A West Side hospital was forced to stop accepting patients on the tail end of a violent weekend that has left 47 people been shot, four fatally, across the city.
  
  Saturday night, resources were stretched to the breaking point as officers responded to multiple shootings in Chicago's 10th Police District, which includes West Side neighborhoods such as Lawndale, Douglas Park and Homan Square. The shootings all occurred within a three hour period, resulting in 17 people injured and at least one dead.

Mt Sinai routinely pulls off miracles on par with County. Them having to shut their doors means a longer trip to other hospitals and ultimately, can cost lives. Not that other hospitals weren't overwhelmed with this nonsense:

• For the second year in a row, a festivalgoer has died after attending Lollapalooza.
  
  As security on Saturday was tested by fence jumpers, thefts and an enormous crowd at rapper Lil Wayne’s set, day three of the festival ended in one death, four arrests, five citations and 30 hospital transfers, according to city officials.

At least most of those transports were by private ambulances.
