Very true. I used to come to work and work my butt off all day. And loved it!! Now, I’m scared to make a stop anymore. If it turns south I could end up fired or jailed for just trying to do my job. Sorry, but the liability of being proactive is just sky high now. It’s not worth it. I don’t think a new supt even change that now. It’s a social movement to hate the police and judge their every move. Critique your split second life or death decision from their comfy desk chair playing the video over and over till they can find the littlest thing to hang you on. The job is gone. It’s lost. It’s over. It’s not fun at all anymore. It’s barely tollerable. I’ve still got a long way to go too and I’m not alone. Everyone I talk to feels same way.

Groot, I am no fan of Special Ed but even if you bring in someone like Sheriff David Clark from Milwaukee (and I hope you do), I question how much good it will actually do. Your problems run far deeper than that.
1. Your single biggest problem is your own people, thanks to the Demorats and the great society program. Demorats pumped all kinds of narcotics into your community, in the form of welfare, food stamps, cell phones, health care. Women quickly figured out that they don't need a man to support them. And the men left. 70% of children born today are born into single parent households. No father to serve as a role model to young boys. Here's an idea. Cut off all the government free shit. take this advice to heart. If you do not, then you are being very foolish. What is unfolding in NYC should tell you something. No one in this city or this department will have your back if you are involved in any incident that attracts the attention of the progressive media. It was unfortunate that Eric Garner died, but he resisted a lawful arrest. It is too early in the administration of Lightfoot . Give things time to shake out. Don't let her and her band of cop haters in city hall make an example of you.
Manipulating the stats by headquarters is nothing new. They put out what they think will make city hall happy. Didn’t a major news outlet bust them on it a few years back? Pretty much on the money. Changing the hierarchy of the department will have no affect on crime and I think she is smart enough to know that. If she doesn’t know that then she is as dumb as a box of rocks. On the other hand it would get rid of a lot of merit pension sucking morons. Which in the end might make the rank and file happy. And another thing that might help is to have everyone who attended the police academy and was sworn in as police officer on the street answering calls not sitting behind a desk shuffling papers. Hire civilians to do those jobs. Having buildings all over the city full of sworn police officers safe in their confines does not help the matter at hand on the street.

A Superintendent really has very little to do with keeping crime stats down. What they are guilty of is pandemic cronyism. All the top "spots" are filled with people way too comfortable with their "merit" spot. How can they be expected to fight crime when they are so tenaciously holding on to a meritorious appointment that they don't deserve?
What if accountability showed up at the chief of patrols office? And at the Area heads? District commanders should not be safe either. And lets stop with band of sycophants that follow every exempt to their new unit. They go, knowing they will receive special favors.
When a new exempt is appointed, if there is little to no improvement, they should be demoted to their previous rank. Whether you were a misunderstood genius, a bumbling clown, or just a guy trying to do the job, results matter. Intentions are wonderful, but actual performance is what counts. Your CPD is not doing the job expected by the citizens of Chicago. The Magnificent Mile is no longer safe. The Water tower is a battleground. Normal People are being carjacked in their own neighborhoods.
It may actually not be your sole fault. Mayor Rahm and his non-Federal consent decree, the ACLU, and SA Foxx all had a big part in your failure. But YOU did fail. Everytime you refused to fight for the CPD and its Officers, you failed. Everytime you knuckled under to politics and threw your fellow Police Officers under the bus, you failed. Everytime you didn't fight for the equipment, pay, and training your Officers needed, you failed. Everytime you didn't fight for fair and just sentences for criminals convicted by the courts, you failed. Everytime you didn't fight to keep dangerous criminals locked up before their trials, you failed.
