- Five teenagers have been charged and another was fatally shot after an attempted vehicle theft in Lake County, Ill., which led to a high-speed chase into Chicago Tuesday morning, the Lake County Sheriff's Office said.
A 16-year-old male, three 17-year-old males, and an 18-year-old woman, identified as Diamond Davis of Chicago, were charged with first degree murder in connection with the incident. They were charged with murder because a 14-year-old boy died of gunshot wounds sustained during the commission of a forcible felony, the sheriff's office said.
The five appeared in bond court late Tuesday afternoon where a judge set bail at $1 million for each of them. They are due back in court on September 5.

They apparently were rolling in a Lexus they liberated from someone in Wilmette the day before.
Your assumption is correct - near the bottom of the story, it states that all the teens are from Chicago.
It also states that the SUV they used to get to the ‘burbs (and later fled in) was reported stolen from Winnetka.

This stood out to me because it was Lake County Sheriff and ISP involved in the chase. Guessing the felons thought they’d quit the chase like CPD is required to do. Nope. What a delightful outcome!
Watch the video posted on Tribune. One of the felons in cuffs has what looks like a wet bottom. It could be the color of his jeans or maybe he was sitting in something wet while hiding. I like to think he pissed himself at some point during the ordeal.

That's '12-'15 Lexus RX350 in the video. It comes with a push button, meaning that you can't start it by short-circuiting the ignition wires, and you don't find a key inside the car. You have to have the key fob. What I am saying is - it will turn out it was forcibly taken from the owner, not just stolen.

1) decided to steal a car from Wilmette ( what led them there and to the location of the vehicle)?
2) what led them to Mill Creek, IL, down a long private drive to steal a Audi?

The reason I ask these questions is because Wilmette and Mill Creek are quite a distance from their home addresses. I don't believe these are "by chance" crimes.

Some interesting things to keep in mind: 1.) The 75-year old victim used a .357 Magnum revolver. Not sure what make & model but he only had 5-8 shots and defended himself well in a stressful situation in near total darkness. Well done and good shooting!
2.) The last of the group that fled (the idiot in the black hoodie who jumped out of the passenger seat) was actually captured by the Lake County K-9 unit who stayed on scene at Randolph and Green tracking him down. That dog zig-zagged for over 30 minutes tracking the scent and leading the 12th District and SWAT right back to a dumpster in the alley where he was hiding and pissing himself. Give that dog and handler a commendation!
3.) The Lake County judge and state's attorney balked at the notion from the defense that the group only stopped on that man's property to get out of their stolen Lexus to urinate. They got the maximum charge and bail instead. Bwahahahaha! Way to show Cook County how it's supposed to be done.
4.) Once the enthusiasm for this feel-good story dies down you can be sure Northwestern Law School graduates, Chicago's far-left and Dude Inc. will target the 75-year old victim and his wife. I spent the first 30 years of my life as a Chicago resident, Still live in Crook County (ugg), but feel for my friends that are stuck there (P.O's and Fire fighters). I have my CCL and am very much in tune with the laws surrounding the privileges to have that licesne. I actually paid attention to the 16 hour class that I took to get the license. The use of deadly force is only recognised under certain conditions. And any CCL holders should be very aware of when that force will be allowed as self defense.
That being said, I certainly hope that the 75 year old victum falls into that category and does not get dragged under a bus for a technicality. And I hope he has a good lawyer to represent him.
As far as insurance, be very wary on some of the schemes out there. Read the fine print. I personally have ACLDN (look it up) as my back up plan. I have no affiliation with them (other than being a member) or are endorsing them, but check it out when you look at other plans.
Be sure to do your homework on ccw liability insurance. I did and sleep better at night. There’s a few companies out there but I settled on US Conceal Carry uscca. Very affordable, especially if your local politicians are anti cop, anti American, anti gun and anti white. There’s lots of useful information out there for citizens.

Happens all the time: They pile into cars (often stolen) and as I was once told, "they're dropped off then scatter like roaches in the night, stealing everything in sight." Most originate from the same neighborhood. They pre-scout out the town using cell phones, real estate listings, etc. Several Lake County towns are really hard on them - so it's toned down a bit. yay....
Just saw the mugshots of the assholes. Talk about some inbred, crack baby, knuckle dragging, mouth breathers!!!

The tone of your article seems biased towards the defendants in this case. You quote some relative as saying his kin died for a car but you fail to note it seems somewhat beyond a largely benign misadventure to be driving a car previously stolen from the north shore then driven into lake county by a wolf pack intent on nothing more than crime.
These are not Alfalfa, Spanky, Buckwheat and Darla "our gang" shorts. These are not just "kids funnin". You should have quoted somebody about how "happy" they are to have crime tourists in lake county or how some guy who is 75 is no doubt terrified when he sees a bunch of black kids in his driveway knowing from reasonable belief and common sense something is very very wrong.

2.) The last of the group that fled (the idiot in the black hoodie who jumped out of the passenger seat) was actually captured by the Lake County K-9 unit who stayed on scene at Randolph and Green tracking him down. That dog zig-zagged for over 30 minutes tracking the scent and leading the 12th District and SWAT right back to a dumpster in the alley where he was hiding and pissing himself. Give that dog and handler a commendation!
