- A federal judge on Monday gave the green light to a pair of class-action lawsuits alleging a pattern of “masturbation attacks” allegedly orchestrated by Cook County Jail inmates against female jail workers and public defenders created a hostile work environment that bosses failed to address.
(side note - "masturbation attacks" were pioneered by the Keesing Bandit years ago, long before he discovered his now-famous white wine spritzers)
- The public defender lawsuit alleged that in June 2016, members of the jail staff threw a group of maximum-security detainees a pizza party to reward them for “going a period of time without perpetrating additional attacks,” Kennelly said in his ruling.
According to the suit, the pizza reward only encouraged other inmates “to join in the harassment in order to become eligible for such a reward,” Kennelly said.
Dart’s office has strongly denied the allegation. In his ruling, Kennelly noted the evidence showed the party was unauthorized and neither endorsed nor funded by the sheriff.
Is this a particular pizza party? Because there was a bunch media coverage about Dart's pioneering ways that permitted inmates to pre-order pizza - cooked up in the County kitchens - as some sort of reward for behaving and not rioting or something. Now suddenly, inmates getting pizza is "neither endorsed nor funded"? Sounds shady as Hell.

O.T. - I just saw the video of Chris Cuomo going off on a guy who called him "Fredo." Needless to say, with his security team all around him, he was all badass and shit. Chris scolded the fellow that "Fredo" is the "N" word to Italians. Three things come to mind: 1) "Fredo" is a name that could stick (oh heck, from now on he IS... "Fredo"); 2) This encouraged me to look up Italian cursing and slang, "Fredo" ain't one of those words. My brother was a sheriffs deputy and he really liked his job until Dart took over. He wasn't in corrections. After Dart and his minions took over, he hated his job so much that he couldn't wait to leave. Kind of like the CPD atmosphere now, isn't it?

The judge is doing his best to cover for the Cook County Machine. If the pizza parties are "unauthorized" and not endorsed and not funded by the Cook County Sheriff or Cook County Government, then the pay out by Cook County will presumably be smaller. Sounds great, except they were authorized and approved according the fawning media coverage.

His history as Sheriff has consistently shown that he cherry picks the duties of his office. Not content to supervise the jail, the courts and patrol unincorporated areas of Cook County, Darts credits include suing Craigslist for adult services advertising, puppy rescues, whore rehabilitation, overseeing capital projects like a quarry in Robbins and on and on. Time for this social worker to turn his Mt. Carmel fleece, get a haircut and look for a legitimate job. Your condensation and elitism makes us puke.

when " hard labor" was eliminated the misbehavior increased. I love these social experiments, some work and some do not. I cannot be angry at Dart and his jail staff for trying things out. But, he must protect innocents who work in these hostile environments.

My hat is off to you working anywhere in the corrections system. I spent 34 years in the worst areas of Chicago and never once did I have any urge to work inside a jail or prison. I had an academic life and we spent some time in state prisons interviewing and surveying convicts. I hated to walk into the prisons and could not wait to walk out. They do not pay you enough

I worked in Div 9 when the masturbator deck (1B) was turned into a project deck where they were given fried chicken, ice cream, pizza, and cake amongst other things. You know what it did? Made them entitled and there were still inmates being kicked off the deck for masturbation on a regular basis. The jail was soft at the expense of all the civilian staff and sworn staff there.
Lots of very big checks about to be written. Many Tens of millions of dollars down the Dart drain. These fools make it so easy to let anyone with half a brain drain the city coffers. With as many involved in this class action suit you can be sure that the city will be making a settlement offer very soon they will not let this go to trial. Way too many machine democrats will be caught up in net.
