The Downside of Green

  • The police are supposed to protect and serve. But what's the point of protecting and serving the public if you're not protecting and serving Gaia? It's good to stop crime, but there won't be any crime at all if everybody gets killed by the weather. That's why I'm glad to see police departments switching to electric cars. Unlike those dirty gas-burning cars, electric ones are powered by... magic, I think? Goodbye, boys in blue. Hello, guys in green!

There's just one problem with electric cars, though: You need to remember to plug them in first.
As you might suspect, the "low battery" warning came on and the primary vehicle had to drop out of the pursuit - not a big deal until you consider that as the pursuit moves farther away, the officers in that unit are now completely out of the picture should back-up be required.

Perhaps these "green" units ought not to be used for regular patrol. Maybe bosses should get them as take home vehicles. At least that way, The Wod couldn't be speeding across Indiana.

Pursuits? What pursuits? COPA and brass are afraid of pursuits. CPD should get two new choppers, Apaches would be best. Just have them engage the runners with a few rounds and that would cleanup messes. Apache 1 and Apache 2.

The Teslas are so fast that they have to artificially limit the things through software. Much quicker than a gasoline powered vehicle...

As for "filling up" - yeah. But this shit can happen with gasoline powered vehicles too. Didn't those shitheads that got charged with felony murder up when stealing a car up in Antioch get caught in the City because they ran out of gas?

It's going to be a learning curve - just as it was when we went from horse/buggies to motor vehicles.

The way the charging infrastructure is now, I wouldn't venture too far out in case one runs low power. But the City/'burbs ought to be OK.

In an effort to make sure they're green enough, they'll make certain parking slots recharge units without having to plug them in. Electric cars are a nice idea, but they're not a cure all for pollution. Electricity isn't free and I heard on the radio that the manufacturing of those batteries are the pollution equivalent of a gas powered automobile with 70,000 miles off the bat. Just like those fluorescent bulbs, use less electricity but what of the toxic metals in them?

Electric vehicles aren't nearly as green as the public is lead to believe. All the electricity needed to charge the vehicle's batteries doesn't just magically self generate which makes the power companies very happy. The most conventional way for a power company to produce electricity is by burning coal in a thermal power plant and all that burning coal smoke that pollutes the air isn't green.

CAR2GO has been thieved out of existence in Chicago.

CAR2GO will cease their pilot program and will be pulling out at the end of the year.

If they had just asked, any Chicago Police Officer could have saved them a bunch of money, time, effort and vehicles, long before they started the pilot program.

Pulling out is no fun, but they grasped reality and are beating it out of town.

Buh-bye.

These electric cars take many hours to fully charge. It’s not feasible for beat cars that may be lucky to get 15 minutes of down time between tours and handing keys to the next guys. If that. I’m For bosses that have the time? Sure. But for coppers on the street? No way.

Use electric cars for streets and sanitation to ride in and for meter maid chores.

Notice there are no Tesla ambulances nor fire engines? Wonder why?

Lastly, when a Tesla get smashed up - how much to fix it vs how much cost to repair conventional autos? City vehicles take a beating after all.

Are those Tesla and other electric cars even safe by all metrics of health standards?

Lets play this hypothetical: You are cop and ride in an electric car all day. Those new cars are ALL electric with big batteries and powerful electric motors. That makes strong electromagnetic fields which you are sitting on when on duty.

So you and your wife try for another child and find out your sperm got messed up from sitting inside a giant electromagnetic field as part of driving about, doing your job policing. Could that happen? That would be fucked up!

What if some offender is arrested and put in the back of the car. Say this offender has some medical issues that are not noticeable at the time of the arrest and this gets agitated sitting in a electromagnetic field. Seems like a stretch but if so, does the police department have to pay damages for the sort of car used by it's officers? Some lawyers would leap in there.

These cars might be 100% safe - I am not fear mongering. Still, brand new items always should be met with certain skepticism.

The Teslas are so fast that they have to artificially limit the things through software"

Any electric motor starts off with full torque and just shoots it down to the wheels by simple transmissions; this is not so with gas engines which need to rev up. Off the line on a race track, most Teslas beat many sportscars and will keep doing so. That said, a simple modern dual turbo can hold it's own to even a Tesla in real world driving/racing.

Top max allowed speed is limited on many mid-range to high end cars (non electric)by software too. A pickup truck or sedan can hit a faster max top speed then what you can drive it to if you change the software on it.

Down the race track however, the gas power sportscar catches or overtakes the Tesla. However, the Tesla batteries have a life span and wear and that is a hidden side to the fun acceleration. They don't keep the ablity to deliver power after many charge/discharge cycles.

That super fast Tesla in 8 years will lose that off the line punch of a new one with a fresh from the factory battery pack. Your current engine, if cleaned and tuned, can still give full power 5, 10, 20 years down the road as it does today.

When has CPD needed to go 0-60 MPH on a city street in 2.3 seconds anyway? That ultra fast start does not help in itself to fight crime.

All this green bullshit is nothing but an attempt to strangle our freedom to live productive, independent lives. The Progressives can’t get their hands on our guns, so they’re going to put meters on our homes, and restrict everything and anything that they can under the guise of “green” so we all have to adapt to shit that doesn’t work or hampers our attempt to function by limiting resources that should be available to all. It’s all part of the grand plan.

As Antifa supporter troll, child of the corn, Greta would say...”How dare you“ !!!
No chase is no chase !
Ban gasoline (and guns and jail) is the first step.
It brings hope (and change) the violent feral would run out of AC juice of the stol’t Tezla getaway car.

Tell me that the Groot green think-tanks haven’t drawn up a hire plan for 10,000 more gun-less foot soldiers (@$15 hr) plant one on every block, eliminates all vehicle related costs altogether with money left over for Sanctuary efforts and programs.
Put everyone on a foot patrol and hope nobody gets pelted with a paintball or worse.

Besides, high tech liberal Muskie might likely have data collection, regulators, monitors secretly installed in those environmental sleds that would allow shaky tenderfoot CPD supervisors or COPA to remotely disable any non-department approved operation and snoop too.

The movin’on Jolly Green Groot stump.

Oh, guess where the greenie batteries get their inners?
Stop the evil coal mining and start lithium mining.
Seems fair right, but it’s a global market.
Sure is legitimate if you hold mining stock in China, Australia, Chile and so close to Greta, Finland.
Coincidentally plenty of Dems must have those secret mining portfolios or am I being too insinuate?
So far the greenies haven’t thought too much what to do with all the $2000- $8000 dead battery disposals yet.

Btw: Is Muskie pushing Team GrootFoot with that revenue economic engine, (Rahm Deal) Fantasy Hi-Speed Tunnel and is that what’s keeping Mass Transit Unit going? Not as lucrative as a Lincoln Yards TIF project, so it can’t be that much a priority with no land to grab along the tunnel route.

Absolutely. How the previous crew that was assigned to the Tesla forgot to plug it in for the next crew is anybody's guess, but I can recall literally dozens of times when I've gotten into my assigned squad only to discover that the previously assigned officer failed to gas it up, check the (low) oil, or change the slow leak tire that went completely flat overnight.
It's the same BS, only replace 'gas' with 'electricity source.' There you have it.

Electric Tesla's for police operations in Chicago. That's really a swell idea. Send that one up to Special Ed and the R&D folks. They're always looking for innovative ideas. he could just as easily run out of gas if he had a gas powered car. electric vehicles make a lot more sense in densely populated urban areas where trips tend to be short and there is plenty of time to recharge. I am not so sure it makes as much sense for police vehicles but there have been some pretty successful experiments with other electric vehicles such as cabs and delivery that have worked out pretty well. Cop cars are nothing special as far as urban vehicles go. It is just a matter of looking at the pros and cons of using them for that purpose and coming up with some way to make it work out. The worst problem is the recharge time. It means you may need more vehicles than you otherwise would because of the extra downtime, but the lower cost to operate might make that a wash.

– sure, nice ride, swift and sleek no doubt.
But come next year the new $1000 JB Piggies plate registration fee for your share of the gas tax along with a Groot Affordable Community City Sticker is all about fair sharing that wealth and greenie power. Say buh-bye to the gubmint incentives to buy those ‘lectric cars too, something more to think about besides the eventual and costly replacement battery when you trade in those hybrids and all electrics. Nobody talks about those disposal fees (like jiffy lube tacks on for gas engines) either. I’m sure ComEd planned on making out good too for it’s kilowatt grabbing shareholders too.

Seems this electric car stuff is can’t be as phony as the green new dill. Though not a passing gimmick as all manufacturers are getting onboard. New Porsche electric 0-60 in 3 seconds with a +500 mile range for $90k. Why worry about the cost of a IL plate and ComEd kilowatt.? Toy Prius, Nissan Leaf and the Tez Type 3 folk will.

I’ll stick with trusty reliable gasoline.

Tesla? For police work, or just showing off to the plebians in their gas burners? Fully aware of the advantages of electric, etc. Also fully aware of the hazards of operating a toxic waste dump on wheels. Wonder how many of these electric operators have ever seen a battery explode, or the effects of leakage on a frame. A fleet vehicle needs to be reliable and easy to maintain, and shouldn't be a hazard in and of itself. Hi performance electrics are just more opportunities for disaster - read lawsuits. Imagine a perp in the back when a battery blows. Limited uses for unlimited liability is not what a Department needs. They are oversized RC cars; efficient but not practical for the day to day grinds of police or EMS services. However, if fools want to show off their egos and get green points with the hippie chicks, Elon Musk is right there to sell 100,000 dollar status symbols for the rubes. Just leave serious users out of the picture.
