Crime Down in the Big Apple
- New York’s overall crime rate is 3% lower than last year — while the city is on pace to record the fewest murders in nearly 70 years, NYPD officials said Tuesday.
Murders, robberies, burglaries, grand larcenies and auto thefts were all down through the first ninth months of 2019 compared to the same period last year — 69,995 vs. 71,871, the NYPD said.
There were 237 homicides through September, a nearly 2% drop from 241 from last year. For all of 2018, there were 289 murders, three fewer than the 292 in 2017.
237 homicides is something like the 011, 015 and 025 combined, and New York is looking at 237 total.
We're joking of course, and we've written plenty of posts about how NYPD "kills" crime via the crooked CompStat program and wholesale reclassification of index crimes - lessons applied here to a lesser extent.
And look how they brag - Groot is going to demand the same thing here shortly.

The NYPD is divided into 78 precincts (districts) in the five boroughs (Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, the Bronx and Staten Island). The first three boroughs listed are divided into 2 "areas", both north and south for a aggregate of 8 "areas". Invariably, Brooklyn North [which includes both the adjoining and notoriously violent 73rd (Brownsville) and 75th (East New York) Precincts] leads the eight NYC "areas" in murders. The distant murder runner-up is the Bronx.
Brooklyn and Chicago have similar population counts, about 2.6 million.
Digest this: The CPD's 11th District leads ALL of Brooklyn North's precincts in 2019 murder totals.
Robbery VS. theft— I get it🤔 fudge those numbers
I just want my overtime to stay . I could give two shits about stats
I thought stop and frisk was legal there :)
“And look how they brag - Groot is going to demand the same thing here shortly.”
Groot knows where it hangs. And what I’d tell her to do with it if she didn’t play for the other team.
It has everything to do with the magnetic personality of Bill "Lurch" de Blasio. NYC has tall, misguided and ultra-liberal. We have the same, just 3' shorter.
I was recently in New York. There are soooo many police in New York! I see why crime is so low! They are everywhere!
NYC enforces the Sullivan law.
It has everything to do with the magnetic personality of Bill "Lurch" de Blasio. NYC has tall, misguided and ultra-liberal. We have the same, just 3' shorter.
...Make that nine inches shorter.
Am sort of grateful there isn't a post about the recently released watchdog reports which spell out the rule violations of McNaughton Tit and Wojcik becauseremembering how the bosses sat on the video for months and planned the self serving misrepresentation turns my stomach
NYPD has over 45,000 sworn members, Emmanuel put us at least 2,500 short.
Bring back CPD to full strength around 17,500 and you will see a major crime reduction.
I always say those Officers working the west side deserve hazard pay. You’ve got to be insane to work over there.
As a citizen, I’d like to hear more about how the city manipulates crime stats. I believe you based on what I see out my own window, but I’d like have more info on this so that it can be discussed in local neighborhood groups.
Does NY have their version of "HeyJackass.com"? Might be interesting to compare real numbers.
Yeah, there's always statistical crap going on but the best indicator of violent crime is bodies. Harder- not impossible, but harder- to gloss over those. And NYC has been doing something right for awhile now compared to Baltimore, Chicago, etc. What is it? Fuck if I know. But the homicide rate difference can't be ignored. I thought it would be going up like everyone else after a few years under deblouseio.
Jealousy is not a virtue. Anyway you cut it NYC beats Chicago but why anyone would want to live in either one escapes me.
If a crime has all the elements of a robbery and s SGT tells you to make it a theft refuse that order and get it to tell you while your body camera is on . Seriously no joke this dept wants accountability give it to them . Don’t even know what a SGT or Lt would say that but there are a lot of company people out there .
Is intimidating business owners up or down?
Murders are down 4, 241 to 237, 4 less murders and they rejoice? Ok...
Crime may be down in NYC but in Chiraq, crime is coming to Lincoln Park.
Thank you Crimisha.
Of course crime is down in NYC -- everyone is leaving the city.

Thought Gmac was sposed to show us the New York way?
Maybe Giuliani should be our next east coast import.
Maybe Mayor BugEyes will change her name like NYC's mayor did. Any ideas?
Now, kees me you fool!!!!
Raw numbers of population greater but NY demographics quite different from those of Chicago.
I see these clowns at CompStat seminars and they look
just like older versions of the kids who took up space in

OT: Former Detectives, Wojcik and his partner Riccio must have attended the Lt one "N" class of re-writing the facts/ destruction of evidence in Homicide investigation training...
Nearly a year after the fatal shooting of Laquan McDonald, Chicago police Lt. Anthony Wojcik allegedly told two of his detectives something unusual: He had to rewrite their reports on the case months before because someone had spilled coffee on the originals.
But, according to the city’s government watchdog, those original reports — handwritten notes of the detectives’ interviews with three witnesses in the case — either went missing or were destroyed. Wojcik also allegedly lost reports from another detective who interviewed those witnesses.
Growing up, he always thought State Farm was a wholesale

Robbery is just too much work for most criminals.
You know, good verbal and communication skills.
That's why the stats for millenial robbery clock in
at practically zero. More likely to be involved in computer crimes.
One slice won't hurt me
DUMBO is actually a neighborhood, Down Under the
Manhattan Bridge Overpass. People who live there think
those that don't are at a cultural disadvantage. That's New
York for you. Like Dylan said, "the cops don't need you, and
man they expect the same."
"When I developed a hairline fracture in my left
thigh bone and ordered to rest for 4 to 6 weeks,
I thought it was the end of the world. Instead I
used the time to get in touch with my inner Jay."
J.B. Pritzker
Just renamed 011+ 015 “ hell “ or “ the apocalypse “. Make them a separate entity/city. I live in Chicago ..not in hell! You could then say murders are way down. All semantics
Down in West Virginia if you name a male child "DeWalt"
people think you're royalty
The CPD has been killing crime since I came on the job in 1968. Back then you could not come up on the air with a " bonified" part 1 offense without calling for a sergeant to approve. So burglaries became damage to property, etc. But, it is pretty hard to cover up a death. NYC has an advantage over Chicago, an incredible number of police that they can flood into any area. And, what I suspect a department not as ridden with patronage that Chicago is. DeBlasio and his policies are being sung to the high heavens with praise and crime is down to give him support in the liberal quarters.
Digest this: The CPD's 11th District leads ALL of Brooklyn North's precincts in 2019 murder totals.

Yes, nothing new here. I was a homicide detective in the 70's and 80's and worked this West side area of Chicago. There is no saving it and nothing has changed in 50 years. I don't think anyone has the answer to this.
The biggest reason for declining crime numbers is a good economy.
To the OFF DUTY copper driving through 011 this morning (10:25hrs 10-10-19) deciding to play the "real police"... per call "ODPO tried to make them pull over but they refused..." You got some fucking nerve calling one of our officers a "Lazy ass" cause our 10-99 officer didnt respond quick enough to YOUR bullshit. No "on view shots fired" or other violent crime... No, just some bullshit cars driving recklessly or chasing eachother and YOU feel it warrants sucking on duty po's in the busiest district in the city into YOUR BULLSHIT?? You want to play the "real police" transfer your stupid ass into 011 and handle some real work ON DUTY. The reason nobody responded lights and sirens is cause we know better than to get involved in your unnecessary bullshit...we all know that in 011 "If you wait long enough, the bullshit takes care of itself" In THIS case, it took care of itself by them getting away and YOU not getting shot by some dudes because YOU are stupid enough to initiate police action over TRAFFIC while OFF DUTY. Officers like you have a way of getting themselves Suspended, jailed, fired over time, so good luck. Save supertrooper shit for YOUR district on YOUR time, we're busy enough in 011 without jokers like you creating work then insulting officers when we "Don't catch the bad guys". P.S. don't insult officers after you've left your phone number and badge number with the call taker..but based on the officer you insulted take on you, you don't have enough time on to know these things.
Just watched beginning channel 7 news at 1100 they were interviewing people in Lincoln Park where a shooting and home invasion recently happened the people said “we cannot live here we are moving ASAP from Chicago!” Crime fighting Lori and Toni crimesha day what again do anything?
Legalize marijuana? Sure, I'll sign that bill.

it is time to be happy. I have learn this post and if I may I want to suggest you some attention-grabbing
issues or suggestions. Perhaps you could write next articles referring to this article.
I wish to learn even more things approximately it!
Maybe the union should look into if u have court. Go swipe in at ur unit get a car and radio and go to court. Let the city/shitty figure out where u park. I’m an on duty police officer working for the city. Well I’ll use an on duty car then. Not my own that I gotta pay for.
Re: Above Post at 12:49 AM
There are TEN (10) pcts. within the confines of Patrol Borough Brooklyn North: the 73, 75, 77, 79, 81, 83, 84, 88, 90 and the 94th Pct.
I can’t believe they, or we, brag about this. A decrease in 3 homicides? Really? Decrease in approximately 2,000 total incidents of murder robberies, burglaries, grand larcenies, and auto thefts? With such tiny decreases that could be attributed to anything. A rainy spring, a long winter, whatever. If you see a massive drop in crimes, then we can start talking about the plans city hall in New York has put in place, but let’s not go sucking de blasios dick over minuscule drops in crime. God the media is such a joke.
Don’t believe it, its pretty bad when shooting are going on in broad daylight all ,over the place and they are just dumping bodies out of cars in the middle of the afternoon now.
OT:
Illinois has roughly 650 pension funds for suburban and downstate police and firefighters. Gov. J.B. Pritzker wants them to merge into two.
OT the NBA is officially dead to me now after the apologies for our free speech. Go Bulls straight to Hell.
Lori should assign a team of top Detectives to find out the root cause of the murders. Once we can identify the problem, we can better solve the mystery. Is it Chinatown? Greektown? Bridgeport? Find the commonality and it will unlock the puzzle.
Back in my day we called it creative index crime reporting. Violent crime unit downgrading homicides, two suicides or death by other cause. Burglaries become thefts.
Scc tip.. you first reported a few years back about a rape incident where an inmate assaulted a female inmate the Markham lockup which subsequently cost 3.2 million. The mutt inmate got a slap on the wrist, will be out in less than 2 years and even received credit for Tom darts puppy program at the jail 58 days credit. He was already serving on another rape charge. just reported in the Tribune. Seven officers careers destroyed over a mistake and this Mutt getss a slap on the wrist.
hoping you will do a post on that a few officers with nothing to do with it were fired. And darts gives that animal credit for his puppy program
Groot is playing a dangerous game by endlessly fucking with the lives of coppers. She might be the least politically savvy politician I have ever seen.

I respectfully disagree. There would be no reduction in crime, our hands are tide, we're neutered, we can't police. But there'll always be the few chargers but eventually they step on their own dicks and land in callback and that's that. Then we have Crimesha FuX and she finna not be putting peoples and folks in prison.
Adding additional officers would only benefit other Officers. Days off would not be cancelled and more than likely the district would not be in a backlog. But how long would the extra manpower last? many of the 17500 would land in connected spots and now we're back to square 1 again.

That’s good Everything helps
Mayor Lori Lightfoot and her family must move from 3434 W. Wrightwood Ave. in Logan Square to West Garfield Park in the close vicinity of Madison St. and Pulaski Rd. Perhaps Supt. Eddie Johnson and 1st Deputy Supt. Anthony Riccio should also move to the 11th District.
For an area of only 6 square miles, the 11th District murder rate is incredibly shocking. A retired NYPD friend checked NYPD homicide stats and found a few precincts are currently tied for the lead in NYC with only eleven murders. Most of the districts in Chicago have twelve or more murders.
Is that Trustee upset that the police arrest criminals doing bad THINGS. OR is it that those same criminals just happen to a
L be people of Color? Maybe the police should just look the other way when a person of color breaks the law. Is that what the SJW lunatics Want?

That, or a Kibbutz.
I am a retired CPD detective. A long time ago, Channel 2 investigative reporter Pam Zekman won the Peabody Award for exposing the CPD's "killing crime" statistics. A revisit to this is long overdue, particularly with index property crime which is the bulk of crime reporting. After being "filtered" by district patrol and when the detective division followed up reports of burglaries, thefts and robberies with no injured victim, it was a common practice to either unfound or reclassify an index crime into a non-index crime. When following up on burglaries, particularly in poor neighborhoods, one of the first questions a detective might ask the victim would be "were the stolen items insured?". The common response was negative. I actually became aware of detectives unfounding or reclassifying such cases with the absurd, reporting that the victim's home was vermin infested and the rats ate the cash; UNFOUNDED. Also robberies were often reduced to non-index thefts.
While in recent years I do believe that local mainstream media is in City Hall's hip pocket and police rank-and-file are their "enemies", it would certainly shock the public if they knew how the CPD continues to "kill crime". I keep in contact with many active "anonymous" detectives.
As far as murder goes, it's hard to hide corpses but the disparity between "HeyJackass.com" and CPD Compstat numbers, don't be surprised if many obvious murders are suspended and filed away as mere "death investigations".
How about filing FOIAs? Since this is Chicago, I predict "crickets" from the local MSM.
Illinois has roughly 650 pension funds for suburban and downstate police and firefighters. Gov. J.B. Pritzker wants them to merge into two.

This makes sense for him. Much easier to steal from two places than from 650. Do you know how much effort it would take for the state politicians to steal from 650 separate funds????

Yesterday, Thursday, NYPD graduated a recruit class of 300 that just hit the streets. We are so understaffed for a city of our size that it is ridiculous.

Yes, "killing crime" is a fact in Chicago, but it is also a common occurrence in the suburbs. No mayor or police chief wants to have bad stats for their town. They do not want to share with the public what goes on in their towns. I did a FOIA in my town and the chief was furious

That is how is always has been. Young officers like that stuff, the constant calls, the danger, the work. Some would never even think of taking an extra weekend off for fear they would miss something. But, those feelings usually wear off as you age and get more time on the job. But, today, is different. They progressive system does not want you to do anything. In fact, they will take your scalp if anything attracts attention. Things are not good right now and it is better to do less
You can do all the police work you want but if you don't have the prosecutors working with you it won't matter! New Yorks Murder Rates maxed out in the 1990s with 2,260 Murders in 1990. That number is INSANE!!If they can go from over 2,000 Murders a year to under 300 a year it can be done in Chicago as well

I see your point, but we are not corresponding about low-level or even mid-grade level thieves. This is Illinois. We have the boldest, the most outrageous and the notorious. 650 would not even be a challenge.

Our staffing is where it’s been for the last 50 years or more when the city population was a lot higher and there were 800 to 900 murders a year. NOW we are ridiculously understaffed
As a member of the NYPD for over twenty years, on the streets ,no house mouse here. I can tell you the good times and low crime numbers are coming to a end . I am starting to see the streets change. Our hands are tied as well. The members of the city Council have made our job so difficult. Prosecutors don’t want to prosecute. We feel we are the ones always justifying our actions and the perp gets the pass . Proactive policing is dead here . We are a clean up crew now . Our leadership has allow us to be a beating post for every liberal agenda in this city ! No matter what it is they always seem to pull in the police. Crime analysis tracks numbers on everything and those are the same numbers they use against us to show disparities In policing. There’s no disparities in policing if your working reactionary . It’s doing your job. That’s the way most of us are doing it now . Fact check the arrest numbers now . Great job on your blog very interesting stuff posted . Good luck on your Contract. Safe tour to all.

This guy/gal for Mayor!! And YES we ARE insane. After a few years You find it's easier to give shitty service to dude than to deal with normal people in civilized areas, albeit the daily hazards and things you experience wear on you over the years.
Who gives a Fuck about New York, let's focus on the violence here in our own city & come up with logical ways to put a stop to it.Way too many woman Children & iboicents dying & your Bitch Ass is worried about NY SMH .....
Cause what BS occurs in NYC gives us a “heads up” of what’s coming our way. Right down to Mayors (Beblasio to Emanuel/light foot) its the canary in the coal mine, Unknown no doubt.
