Chicago Values on Display
- A 7-year-old was shot in the chest as she trick-or-treated in a bumblebee costume Thursday evening in Little Village.
The shooting happened about 5:30 p.m. when at least two people walked up to another group of people standing in 3700 block of West 26th Street and began firing at them, according to Chicago police.
The girl was struck by a stray bullet and was rushed to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, police said. She was expected to be transferred to Comer Medical Center.
We've heard that witnesses and neighbors are inundating Area Central with names and locations of suspects, which is a promising development.

Off topic. In my 20+ years on the job MAIU has been blowing off jobs. You are major accidents...not fatal only accident unit. You were well aware of the extent of the injuries (major) on an elderly man in 022 and also that the offender was hit and run (in custody). It’s shameful that you wouldn’t even send someone out. It is even more shameful that you would try to blame the coppers for not accurately giving you the details when you were called out on it the next day. First, there are actual messages to you with the extent of the injuries. There are numerous radio transmissions. Second how is a 70 something man hospitalized with numerous breaks, head injuries, not conscious and a victim of hit and run not worthy of you at least gracing the scene to make a determination? All of this information was available on the PCAD as well. If you choose not to do your job, take responsibility for your actions. Don’t try and lujack the lowly beat copper.

Actually, it was a big story across the country picked up by national news on at least CBS, ABC and NBC. Also, it was floating via the Washington Post and New York Times. Not sure how you drew that conclusion. I didn’t check Fox News, perhaps they didn’t cover it. Goof

No more OT at sporting events or concerts for SWAT. 60 SWAT officers sitting around doing nothing really pissed off the Mayor. A video surfaced of two SWAT officers caught sleeping at Cellular Field. Video was sent to Lightfoot. She was PISSED and so was the Supt. SWAT has embarrassed the Supt in the past, and now he is in the hot seat again because of them. The Mayor and Supt want more accountability concerning specialized units. SWAT is first up.
The Final Draft has not been approved yet detailing SWAT, but it is being finalized. SWAT will be assigned to the following districts: (005, 007, 011 and 015). SWAT Sergeants and Coordinator are excluded at this time. This SWAT District Initiative will begin 01 April 2020, on 1st and 3rd watch. SWAT Support will be assigned to the 011th District only. This is being done, in case, the SWAT vehicles are requested.
SWAT, will be able to keep their take home vehicles for call outs. SWAT will be assigned, to work in their blue uniforms. No more military green BDUs. SWAT district duties will include, responding to in progress calls that have a potential of violence, especially EDP calls. SWAT will also be available for arrest/search warrant operations. SWAT officers, can also be assigned to a tactical team if the DC requests. Expect SWAT officers to be assigned to static violent zones.
The Detail Unit has begun training and getting ready to stand up Special Response Teams for active shooter and potential terrorist attacks. Past and present leadership of the detail unit, felt SWAT is not earnings their keep at these events. Former SWAT officers are now conducting the training for them.

Why would you put our swat team in the district. They want swat to answer calls? Or to be a tact team? Why don’t you just make the tact teams swat? Let’s see how that works out for you. The city spent thousands of dollars to train us. We were trained to counter specific threats. We could always use more training, but compared to the average copper or tact. That’s all I’m saying.
