Dart Looks for a Scapegoat
- Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart says the chief judge should take over the electronic monitoring of defendants since the courts decide who gets released on ankle bracelets.
In a letter this month to Chief Judge Timothy Evans, Dart cited the wave of “high risk” suspects released on electronic monitoring since Evans initiated bond reform measures in 2017.
“In large part, the Circuit Court orders EM as a safety net for individuals charged with violent and gun-related offenses, who often have long rap sheets and a history of skipping court,” Dart wrote in his Oct. 3 letter, obtained by the Tribune. "There is no mechanism or process ... to balance the court’s orders with the capacities of the sheriff’s electronic monitoring program.”
Dart proposed the monitoring program be combined with a similar pretrial release program already operated by Evans’ office. Combining the two programs makes sense, both financially and for public safety, Dart wrote. He added that he was willing to transfer staff and resources to Evans’ office during a changeover.
This program has been a failure by any metric applied. Five-HUNDRED-plus inmates missing, and that was before Evans, Prickwrinkle and Crimesha started lowering bonds to where anyone who could write an "X" on the line got a walk. Now Dart wants to shit all of the blame responsibility to Evans.

All the media has to do is look up the archive Chicago tonight interview from about 2013. Preckwinkle and Dart both blasted Evans in a heated interview where Dart accused him about not being serious enough on lowering bond for most inmates. Evans gave Dart exactly what he asked for. Dart reminds me of the serial arson who blames the fire department for not extinguishing the fire fast enough.

Willing to bet Dart the Fart does not want his budget cut to allow this to happen. Fewer prisoners and a bigger budget makes all the sense in the Chicago Way world. Perfect of Chicago Values goings in someone's pocket. We all know how expensive pizza ingredients are.
Around 10 years ago Dart"s office use to handle determination of who was released on em. Dart himself pushed to move responsibility of those em eligibility determinations to the chief judges office.
I believe Tom darts end goal is to ultimately transfer all corrections operations out of the sheriff's office. Dart will push to maintain only Police and Courts under is office.
This is smoke and mirrors. The program already doesn’t work. Dart is already crying that violent felons are being put on EM that he has no control or say over, So he wants Prekwinkle and Evans to own it. All this means is that more people that shouldn’t be on em will be. They take no responsibility for anything. They developed the low bail program and we all know how that’s going.

When Dart came into office his budget was 393 million. The Sheriff office over last 13 years has lost 1890 employees (mostly deputy sheriffs) while his budget has more than doubled. Where is the funding going?
Ask Cara Smith now what she really thinks about Dart. Most of the Sheriff top aides find other employment as fast as they can. The operation greylord mole took a 30k paycut to go back as ASA just months after Dart appointed him director of IAD. That Ben Breit kid also took a huge pay cut to get away from Sheriff goofy. Dana Wright just walked away from 150k post with 16 yrs on job. When your in an abusive work eviroment money is not everything.

Dump the EM cases on the courts, which has its own EM program already for pretrial monitoring of defendants, as well as convicted sex offenders. The probation department does that, and has management with zero law enforcement experience. Their guys have no support.
Add the stack of assholes the jail monitors to that. Watch what happens.

What is SP? Look no need to get butt hurt because the topic here is your boss. I understand that you deputies don't want to be in the city anymore than CPD wants to deal with toupee tommy sending you guys into the city. I understand you're here to assist and any help is greatly appreciated, but again don't take it to heart brother.
