- The Indianapolis man who prosecutors accused of entering two Lincoln Park homes and sexually abusing two sleeping girls has reached a plea deal. Hunter Best, 26, pleaded guilty to two counts of residential burglary, but prosecutors agreed to drop the most serious charges he faced.
Judge Erica Reddick sentenced Best to two concurrent eight-year terms. The state will cut his sentence by 50% for good behavior, and he is receiving 604 days credit for time spent in jail while awaiting trial, giving Best an anticipated parole date in early 2022.
Prosecutors dropped 26 other felonies, including four counts of Class X felony home invasion involving a sex offense. The state also dropped 14 burglary counts and four sex-related charges.
Police said Best entered a home in the 400 block of West Belden around 2 a.m. on May 27, 2018, and sexually abused a 13-year-old as she slept. About 20 minutes later, Best allegedly entered a residence two blocks away on the 500 block of West Grant and inappropriately touched an 11-year-old girl in her bedroom.
This was with a perfect DNA match. Too bad these girls don't seem to have a large, brutish, short-tempered older brother who might be waiting outside the prison in early 2022.

What everyone fails to see here is the “big picture”. The simple answer to this issue is two fold. First is a lack of work ethic. Meaning the staff in large is basically lazy. Why spend hours doing interviews and building a case and some more time having to go to court. When all you have to do is sit in your big chair and call the defense attorneys and play let’s make a Deal. Second is the shallow talent pool. It endangers all of us when criminals aren't kept in prison for long stretches of time, away from society. This nonsense about "concurrent" sentences is bullshit too - if you get two 8 yr sentences, do 16 years, not 8. Forget about the 50% reduction for "good behavior" too - instead of 16 years, they get 8, and instead of 8, they do 4. Oh, and then don't forget the coupon for time off - ummm, credit for "time served" waiting for the trial, that then cuts things by another 2 years so instead of 16 years someone does 2...
Dah fuq is that? How does that send any kind of a message that being a criminal is a 'bad thing' with consequences? Locking Pookie up for 16 years, far from home, not letting his ass out for 100% of the sentence? The city is trying to appeal the arbitrator's ruling. They are basically going to tell him, "The Fto is going to get over a hundred grand if your ruling stands. The city is having hard financial difficulties and that's too much money."

has been happening for decades and there have been past investigations. One officer, years ago, made a habit of doing this and got caught because he wrote a lot of tickets on his former girlfriend who proved her car was somewhere else at the time of the citation. There have been many others. No surprise here.
I'll be crucified for saying this but Mary Innes is one of the "good" ASA's. Ask any Detective that worked with her. I am not saying that what happened was right. I am saying that she has to listen to her bosses as we all do.

This story will show you how times have changed. 20 years ago I did a financial crime, credit card shit, while on bond for something else financial. I was told bond on bond, no bond for me period. Had to stay in Cook County 6.5 months fighting the case, they refused to drop any of the charges or reduce them, again, non violent financial. I plead guilty, 3000 fine, 2 years probation. To make matters worse 6 years later I go to 35th and get my rap sheet, there is a warrant out for me, apparently the probation did not clear correctly in the system. Two more weeks in county, strip searched, all of that. These assholes are getting a great deal to make things right but they refuse to.
There was a time when the local Mob would have terminated the offender upon conviction. The old school monsters were hard and fast against crimes against kids
When he gets out, take him out for some fishing to rehabilitate him. It works every time.

Could be numerous reasons. Parents didn’t want to go they a long drawn out trial, were satisfied by the sentencing, believed in rehabilitation , received compensation or a dozen other reasons. Not making it right, but it’s not easy to bring your child in to testify in a case like this

I'm not a police officer, and I don't know anyone in jail. There are t.v. crime shows (that might be completely fictional) that have plotlines indicating that child abusers are not treated well in jail/prison. If the courts will not remove this person from society, the next best thing might be to make him "internet famous". Is there a way to make sure all his fellow inmates that he abuses children?
