- In a lighted garage on one of San Francisco's busiest streets, a young man in baggy trousers and messy brown hair pulled down his pants. He had been hiding two pairs of stolen jeans with the tags still on them. He handed them to another man waiting nearby, took some money, pulled up his pants and headed back into another store on Market Street — home to the city's high-end designers and big-chain retail shops.
The incident wasn't a one-off. These brazen acts of petty theft and shoplifting are a dangerous and all-too-common consequence of Proposition 47, a referendum passed five years ago that critics say effectively gives shoplifters and addicts the green light to commit crimes as long as the merchandise they steal or the drugs they take are less than $950 in value. The decision to downgrade theft of property valued below the arbitrary figure from felony to misdemeanor, together with selective enforcement that focuses on more “serious” crimes, has resulted in thieves knowing they can brazenly shoplift and merchants knowing the police will not respond to their complaints, say critics.
Perhaps the stores need to hire some vigilantes? After all, baseball bats aren't deadly weapons according to this new breed of states attorney, so the charges would be misdemeanors at most and who wants to prosecute a misdemeanor? You beat the shoplifters just short of unconsciousness, get your property back and they learn not to steal from your store. Maybe.

I think it’s too late for California and probably Chicago. You’re just going to have to live with it. I’m not even sure other departments around the country would be excited about recruiting cops from those places. Most will just have to suck it up and plan on a career with CPD. I'm not a believer in corporal punishment for your own offspring. There are other ways to meet out punishment and teach right from wrong to a wayward young family member.
However, when I was still on the job (retired 13 years), I taught many a wayward yute by methods I'm sure they have not forgotten to this day, and I have no doubt that many of them benefited by them as well.

I live in Minneapolis half the year, and Minneapolis' liberal/communist government ordered the police to no longer prosecute "nuisance" crimes, such as loitering, downtown, as some demographic group might feel "profiled."
You can guess the result: Much more serious crimes (e.g. random beatings, robberies) have skyrocketed in downtown Minneapolis. It is no longer safe for a single person to walk the streets downtown after nightfall, as the "youths" are preying on the unwary.

In South Africa they are losing the war. Average people that can move do so. But most can't and even their large walls and all the other high tech stuff doesn't stop the mutts from what they do best. Citizens use paintball guns as it can be difficult to get a gun license. Google South Africa protests and you will see the numbers they have everyday. Colleges should be free the students say so they burned and pillaged the computer labs etc, etc. Then wanted all those responsible released and charges dropped. Sound familiar? Also just put in South Africa crime or SA cash in transit robbery, carjacking and a variety of things come up. SA crime watch on twitter, the comments tell you how people are feeling, that being very frustrated and angry and feeling powerless. Sound familiar? Also the Farmlands (2018) documentary is excellent. Some good cops there but many on the take and are part of the problem. Lots of lazy and grossly out of shape ones too. Clouted/merit, nepotism it's infested with it. I lived there for about a year back in 2002. Beautiful country, it's a pity. I feel sorry for decent people and there are many like that. I have good friends in the south of the Philippines, and that area has had problems with the Muslim rebels for a long time. Pity they didn't just wipe them all out years ago. Yes, Rodrigo Duterte is tough on drugs and crime but corruption is bad and their public health system is still awful. He hasn't solved the violent Muslim problem either. Corruption bribes and such still aplenty. If they print this, hope you find it helpful.

Yes, the only place worth anything anymore in Europe is Poland, and Hungary looks nice too. Places that would have been considered 2nd or 3rd tier European countries are now the best of the lot. Those countries have been through a lot they know how bad it can get. The UK, France, Germany etc are like their wealthy bratty know it all cousins. It's too late now for them. How could anyone be a copper in the UK today? Some of the things they have to do for the sake of the sick SWJ politicians and their ilk. There is a UK Cop Humor fakebook page but got to wonder some about them too as they often post pics of their kids and themselves. I don't understand that at all.
