Um.....

  • Thieves have stolen at least 12% of the city’s Divvy bike-share system’s fleet since April 2018, according to newly-released Department of Transportation (CDOT) data and adult arrest records compiled by CWBChicago. But the program’s losses have been cut substantially by Chicago police officers who have recovered hundreds of stolen taxpayer-owned bikes.

An inventory this spring revealed that 401 of the Divvy system’s 6,200 bikes were missing, according to CDOT records provided to CWBChicago. And more than 300 stolen bikes have been returned to the company by police who found adults riding them throughout the city. Not included in the 12% theft rate are stolen Divvies that police found in possession of juveniles and bikes returned to the company after being found abandoned on city streets, yards, and alleys.
So the police are now an enforcement arm of Divvy / Lyft? And just how many successful prosecutions were there for bike thefts? We're better the number is awfully low.
  • At $1,200 per bike, the Divvy system has lost $481,000 to thieves since the last system inventory in October 2018.

The Divvy system racks up a yearly operating loss of between $600,000 to $700,000, the Tribune reported this year. The $481,000 replacement cost for stolen bikes is in addition to those losses.
And how exactly are they staying in business with losses like those? Who's beaks are getting wet with this operation?

Along those same lines, who has the missing scooter totals?

" hundreds of stolen taxpayer-owned bikes."

Who's loosing money? Sounds like the taxpayers own the bikes and if you dig a little deeper you will probably find the city is subsidizing this connected company operation in addition to buying the bikes at double of cost.

Media will change the narrative to racism in the Divvy corporation for not having more of their bikes in certain zip codes, this preventing ‘people’ the opportunity to seek employment for the work that they desperately want to do. This lack of Divvys (and their rudeness of not offering lower rates to ‘people of poverty’ accelerates of circle of despair and thus increases crime in the city. It’s your fault, Divvy.

Yep, about 3 years ago while on the west side (surprise) I found a divvy bike lying in an empty lot. I called divvy and told them and guess what they wanted me to do. They wanted me to pick it up and take it to the nearest divvy bike station (hahaha) I told them that ain't gonna happen I'm working on something. The person on the other line said "oh well" just leave it

If I didn’t already know Divvy was being bankrolled by city government, this paragraph would tell the tale. Only government (and Internet companies) can run at that much of a loss and not go out of business.

You don’t run a successful business by writing off your losses. Idea is to have no losses and more income which you can’t have if the bikes are missing and can’t make money for you

I highly doubt police are actively working to locate lost/stolen Divvy bikes. Instead, they probably spot someone riding a Divvy in an area where there's no Divvy Station anywhere around, and it doesn't look like the rider is going to, or coming from, anywhere in particular.

And without all the subsidies the cities gave this and the scooters where would they be. Someone is making money off all this. And $1200 bucks per bike? You can buy a Vitus Zenium Carbon Disc bike for about 950. Still you find these Divvy annual members, sheep that just can't resist the trend. I read one on Yelp, annual members crying about the poor quality of the bikes. I wonder why that would be? Perhaps this joker will wake up soon as he received a call notifying him about the missing bike on October 24th, only thing is he took the bike out on October 4. Still they accessed a $250 dollar fee for the missing bike. Wonder where it went, I just can't imagine. But he and the girlfriend are thinking of cancelling their annual memberships, just thinking of it mind you. A sucker born every minute. Just how many 250 dollar fees does it take you to wake up, pal? I wonder how many get accessed such fees when their bikes go missing weeks after they rent them. As usual the only one doing any real reporting is CWBChicago.
