Quick Action, Life Saved
Right place, right time, right training and a willingness to do it:
- S.W.A.T. Sgt. Nowacki, a 19-year-veteran of the Chicago Police Department, for the love of his profession and commitment to excellence, ran the Allstate Hot Chocolate Run in full S.W.A.T. gear today.
Near the finish line, Sgt. Nowacki saw a crowd of people, including Officer Gubala, yelling for a medic. Sgt Nowacki observed an unresponsive woman on the ground. [...] Sgt. Nowacki sprung into action and administered CPR until emergency medical services responded with an AED.
The female subject was transported to Northwestern Hospital where doctors stated Sgt. Nowacki's actions and the quick response by emergency medical services saved the female's life.
Shortly after finishing the race, Sgt. Nowacki proposed to his girlfriend, Officer Gubala, who paused with disbelief before saying yes.

nice work!
Man, that's a hell of a day. Good work all around!
Great job all around...
Sgt. Nowacki used to work in 017, I saw him doing pull ups with a gas mask on one afternoon. At first I was surprised that someone would do that and then I realized who it was with that mask on and I actually wasn't surprised, that's how intense this guy is with his physical fitness. He's also a very considerate man. Mike's good people. You know it's true.
Finally a good CPD story. Surprised that he was allowed to run in uniform since some snowflakes might have felt uncomfortable with him there. Full uniform did he have his camera and gun belt with weapon?
Great story, good job officer. Honey you got a good one.
superman. Nice job.
Outstanding job Sgt. Real Chicago Police.
WOW! Busy day for the Sergeant. Congratulations on your engagement. And saving a life. And finishing the run.
Busy day.
Well done, Sgt!!
Did his girlfriend need an AED after he proposed? Just kidding. Nicely done.
Worked with him also in 017 did he wear shoes on his run use to call him the barefoot bandit. Couldn’t know a nicer man. Congrats
Mike has always been a classy guy, congrats
Congratulations to Mike and Erin. All in a day’s work. Great story and hope the female subject will be ok too.
One tough guy- best wishes in your marriage, Brother.
Terrific guy and better Officer. Congrats Mike.
Sounds like a Lifetime made for TV movie

Love it!
Congratulations and Best Wishes, Officers!
wow, i thought shit like that was only in the movies.........
great job officer!!
was he on duty ? Lori will have him on foot patrol in 11
My countryman! God bless you.
Was a good Sergeant in 017..
In this bizarro world, if he wasn't wearing a BWC, or it wasn't activated, no proposal occurred.
Cheers to them, and hopes for a long, healthy life together.

I sprung into action once on the job but no one ever noticed...
now...how is ANYONE supposed to beat that!?
Its not just large departments but municipalities are starting to follow the liberal agenda.

A good day all around. Nice job Sarge and congrats on the marriage.
I could say many disparaging things about both, but given the circumstances, I'll give a "good job" and "congrats" to both.
What a stroke!
WTG Mike. You were always one of my favorite Sgts to work with. And I pretty much hated most of the bosses I worked with! You are one in a Million Sergeant!!
Great job all around Sarge.
Thanks and congrats!
Great job helping a citizen.. and Congratulations on the wedding proposal!
Thanks for the great memories while in 017! Great Guy!!!
Crazy Patty R.
It looks like downer comments aren't being accepted,
so I'll try like this, with all due respect.
Someday when he has orthopedic problems (we ALL
do as we get older) he'll regret going the distance in
full uniform. He'll have aging parents/relatives and
won't have time for something that benefits a big
corporation. Reminds me of Michael in the basement
practicing with the revolver. Dude training him says
"we were all proud that you joined the service." Then
as Michael & Vito both get older, Vito tells him you
help your family first. (But you all knew that already)
Great guy, Congrats to both of you!!!
I'm sure that that the good Sgt. certainly appreciates the well deserved positive comments.
And to the poster who cites future orthopedic problems as not a downer comment...
That's a stretch as well.
A Great story for a great guy! Congratulations to you both!
Nowacki Iraq War Vet for SUPT Great job Mike!
