- With election season in high gear, Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx and her office have retained some high-powered legal assistance in the ongoing probe of Foxx's controversial handling of the Jussie Smollett case.
Ruben Castillo, the former chief judge of the Northern District of Illinois and now a partner at the politically connected law firm Akerman, has been helping the state’s attorney's office for the past three months to vet voluminous materials requested by special prosecutor Dan Webb.

You don't need a top lawyer to merely comply fully with subpoena requests.
Well, it is Cook County, and Crimesha proves time and again the law means zip to her - she is a law unto herself and her progressive masters. Now she's going to stick taxpayers with the bill for her misdeeds, probably totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Reminds me of how back in the '90s, then Illinois Attorney General Jim Ryan hired the expensive law firm of of Freeborn & Peters to "negotiate" the megalithic settlement with tobacco companies. Think about that for a second. The guy heading the biggest legal agency in the state hires a private firm to basically look over a master 50-state settlement agreement that had been drafted by other states that were also settling.
What did Freeborn Peters get paid for doing the work that in-house lawyers for the Attorney Generals' Office could have done? $400,000,000. No joke. Even the Crook Co judge who oversaw the Illinois litigation thought it was outrageous.

But this being Cook County, at least even odds that the damaging electronic stuff ends up in the bin next to the Epstein video.

Getting mentioned on the blog ain't gonna cut it for publicity. His name didn't surface on a major media source until the week of the election and the results reflected that. He was either paid off or didn't care enough o put the effort forth.
