- Controversial former Ald. John Arena has resigned his position as senior adviser to Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s planning department, city officials confirmed Friday.
The Lightfoot administration issued a statement saying Arena informed them last month he was retiring effective Jan. 17. The statement gave no explanation for the resignation, and Arena did not return messages seeking comment.
This after he was credibly accused with being the dickhead everyone knows he is and drawing unwanted attention to Groot's poor hiring practices. In fact, a few more stories started leaking about his dickheadedness, especially when dealing with women who dared to oppose his efforts or even hold a different opinion than his.

Most excellent start of the New Year in the 45th Ward.
The party big wigs didn't want this asshole on the ballot as a State Representative. So a City job was found for him. Arena had 45% of the votes as a Democratic Committeeman to fill the position. So he had leverage at the time to either take the position, or broker a job for himself.
The State Representative job was given to an Arena ally Lindsey LaPointe. Arena got a City job.
Arena had an ally named Ellen Hill run for the Democratic Committeeman's job. Deadline passes for him to get on the ballot. He becomes a lame duck Committeeman, with nothing left to leverage or broker.
Three months into his job, he plays politics and it outed by Fran Speilman at the Chicago Sun Times. The same Arena nimrods that have been attacking Gardiner on social media show up to attack Fran Spielman. All for naught. There were too many unfriendly witnesses and pictures/recordings at the Community meeting. The dickhead who is supposed to be a Deputy Commissioner of Planning and Development, was responsible for disrupting a meeting for a project in the 45th Ward. The shit show in front of the Developer was well documented. Arena couldn't spin or lie his way out of this.
Less than two weeks later, with nothing left to leverage as Democratic Committeeman, asshole Arena is shown the door. He is over a year and a half away from a pension. He was too stupid and arrogant to lay low for a couple of years.
Good riddance Arena. Fuck you.

He can get him a state job for the pension and then it’s up to the city pension fund to decide if he can transfer the time. I’m sure there is some regulation that covers any transferring

Those are just the 3 I personally have met.
While I don't Professionally Like him, Nick was a FF for 18 years before getting elected to Alderman.
Any City Employee that gets elected to Alderperson or Committee person should be able to count that time into their Pension Clock. Especially Committee Person.
The City doesn't pay you for that job.
You're lucky if you get a check from the Cook County party to cover the Office Expenses if you're not already the alderperson of that ward.

So vote him the F out. If he isn't doing "Johnson" for the ward, why keep voting for him? And yes, I get that last election the Retired Sgt from -25 was the oppo and is a stroke more than Nick is. There wasn't a single Republican or Independent worth voting for in 38?
Sheesh. Find someone to back the issues you want looked at in the 38th ward, and help them secure residency inside the ward to Run against the people that ain't getting it done.
Its one of the reasons I moved out of 43 into 45. To watch the local politics, develop contacts in the surrounding wards and raise capital to run for alderman in the next election
