Dart Settles Lawsuit?
- Legal fees for cases relating to masturbating detainees at Cook County Jail could reach more than $2 million.
The Cook County Board’s Finance Committee on Wednesday will consider the latest $486,216.39 in fees and expenses for five cases brought by public defenders, sheriff’s officers and other female county employees exposed to the harassment. That comes on top of nearly $1.7 million the Board has already paid out.
It’s been dubbed an “extreme brand of workplace sexual harassment” by one state senator who sought increased penalties for the lewd behavior. The women subjected to it have written letters to county officials and filed lawsuits.
We're pretty sure we posted something at the time last summer and that it provoked quite a few humorous responses.

Vri is getting completely revamped. Sergeants will now be driving the vans and dropping off p.os at various redline/blue line stations. Let me get this straight, you work around male prisoners, guys locked for lengths of time & or guys in jail because they don’t know how to conduct themselves by the rules of society & you don’t think you’ll run across a masturbating prisoner/detainee while doing your job? Unless I’m missing more to the story, I don’t understand the basis for their lawsuits. They aren’t being harassed by their co-worker or supervisors. I’m no fan of Dart’s but seriously this has to do with our tax dollars paying out people who should have a clear understanding of what their job will expose them to. Can I file a lawsuit against the city for some of the stuff I’ve had to witness? A masturbating sex offender while I was interviewing him was one of those things. You know what I did? I said, “What the fuck are you doing? Fucking knock it off or you’re going to have a bigger problem!” I wouldn’t want to watch any of these scumbags masturbate either but I’d also have a clear understanding that may be a risk of my job, just as any prison guard is exposed to a whole collection of weird behaviors as a part of the job. If the behavior is a behavior of confinement and isn’t physically putting a worker at risk, I don’t get the lawsuits or payouts.
My wife is part of this lawsuit and as of yet, they have not been told anything about a settlement. Even still nothing has changed, with the savages.

I usually don't side with Public Defenders but this was unique. Read the complaint two woman were subjected to this on at least a dozen occasions and repeatedly asked the Sheriff to act. Multiple PD's personally spoke to Dart who mocked them dismissively telling them they should quit and boys will be boys. Dart then rewarded the masturbators with pizza which encouraged hundreds of other inmates to join in. Also the Federal judge blasted county attempt to get suit tossed. I'm very much for tort reform but this suit was legit.

I am not sure how Dart could have prevented or even stopped this behavior. These thugs are locked up and when you get into a jail or prison, the mentality changes for the worse. I see your point, but the plaintiffs who are getting the settlements are not the ONLY female employees who were assaulted. There are plenty of agencies and companies that work in the courthouse who have to go through lock-up in the basement and off the courtrooms who were exposed to this filth as well and aren’t going to get a dime because their supervisors told them not to complain for fear of losing a lucrative County contract. This was happening for quite some time before someone decided to sue because in the beginning victims were told not to make waves. I know because it happened to my co-worker. And it was pretty fucked up.
Okay, how are you supposed to stop them? You can bet some shitbird doing that in ye olden days would have gotten a whomping that they might have learned from but that's no longer kosher in today's gentler policing world. So how do you stop them from doing it 'with impunity?'
Keep them with their hands cuffed above their head while they meet with the PD at all times? I guarantee you there would be accusations of torture within a week. How much has the fights cost on inmate buses on news few months ago. They said over 15 inmates have been severely brain damaged.
OT The Feb massacre continues 100% uptick in KIA this weekend so far with many hours to go. At this rate 700 might be in store if the weather cooperates. The weather is the ONLY thing that can hold the numbers down. More cops, more overtime and all the strategy is a waste of time and money. Just let them kill each other and be done with it. At some point they will run out of targets.

Okay, how are you supposed to stop them? You can bet some shitbird doing that in ye olden days would have gotten a whomping that they might have learned from but that's no longer kosher in today's gentler policing world. So how do you stop them from doing it 'with impunity?'
Keep them with their hands cuffed above their head while they meet with the PD at all times? I guarantee you there would be accusations of torture within a week. And it's even more difficult when you talk about 'exposure' by deputies etc... are you going to wrap the detainees in chastity belts 24\7? Pepper spray their dick when they whip it out? How much force can be used before the accusations of civil rights violations come through? I guess you can tack on a charge for it... as if they care or as if it'll do anything. If you say "no women employees to have contact with male detainees" you're a sexist and will get sued for that, too.
So apparently the only 'solution' is to let it happen and then pay millions of taxpayer money out to the victims who somehow had no idea of the career they got into. I hope male deputies and lawyers start suing too, we wouldn't want this to be gender based payout.

I am not sure how Dart could have prevented or even stopped this behavior. These thugs are locked up and when you get into a jail or prison, the mentality changes for the worse. What punishment could be handed out to someone who is already locked up in one of the worse crap holes in the country? But, the comments about female public defenders and female officers being offended by this behavior are pretty much on the money ( pardon my pun) so to speak. They should not get millions for this. So, should every female chicago police officer exposed to lewd behavior and language be eligible to sue the city and collect? Then get a new job and move on
