Garry, Can You Spare a Doobie?

  • Former Chicago Police Supt. and mayoral candidate Garry McCarthy has a new gig: Security consultant to a weed company.

MOCA Modern Cannabis, which is in a race with three other companies to open a dispensary in a small area of River North, brought McCarthy on as a security consultant to advise on measures for their planned dispensary at 216 W. Ohio St., located a few blocks from where McCarthy lives.

[...] McCarthy said he’s become friends with Sam Fakhouri, who owns the building where MOCA wants to open, and it was Fakhouri who approached him about the opportunity. He aims to help MOCA as they work to open the dispensary in River North, working with Michael Chasen, a retired police detective and MOCA’s chief security officer.
Chasen was a "retired police detective"?

Really?

We had heard he was a "retired high ranking exempt member (Deputy Chief) of the Chicago Police Department, actually in charge of many many detectives. But that wouldn't sound as humble, right?

McCarthy signed off on the policy changes for the ACLU and ADL so they could get funding for their training and education and also lawsuits over their phrase ‘reasonable articulable suspicion’ which has no clear definition. Rahm had McCarthy sign off on any policy change they needed. And they rewarded him with a sweet security gig.

After Jan. 1rst and all the hype, I suspect the legalized weed shops business will be declining. At a 40% tax rate, the legal weed is expensive. But it's legit, real good THC weed. I suspect the black market will thrive. Maybe we have some Narcotic Units on here that can step in?

Listening to this response to a firefighter SHOT in 017. It is the most casual response I have ever listened to on air while off duty. Like no one is taking it remotely seriously. And then 1700X had the disrespect to call it “the fire drama” on air. Took them 40 minutes to tape and block off. Why in the hell is this not being responded to with the same seriousness as a cop being shot? Imagine fire casually rolling for a shot cop. Unreal.

So anyone that sat behind a desk for the last 20, 30,40 years, and had administrative responsibilities only, not conducting a lick of actual police work for the last 20,30, 40 years, basically other than inspecting their inflated fat numbered check stub, are now considered security geniuses? You have to love the stupidity of educated people with money. Maybe Mc501 can run Weed Wednesday Comstat meetings and tell everyone what a shitty job they’re doing.

Chasen was a good detective deputy chief. He is the one who changed the policy of taking a POs gun on the screen and in front of the “community” during a officer involved shooting incident and he created the red tape on crime scenes permitting the pos to stand inside the yellow tape so their friends and family can see them on the news and think that they are working on the case and the detectives/crime lab can process the scene.

Chasenthedragon and Mcpuffpuffpass are two of the most arrogant individuals I've ever met. Neither ever passed a mirror without critiquing their reflection(s) for all in the surrounding area to hear.........Nobody cares how you trimmed your face caterpillars.......

FYI....Chasenthedragon was one of the original investors of ....get this....."Multicolored spray chalk" for crime scenes. An investment opportunity brought to him by his daughter......"bubbles", who had a "My Pink Pony", "Care Bears" and "Light Brite" dream/nightmare explosion in her head one night. I think.........she just ate too much cotton candy, couldn't jump back into her tightass jeans, fell over, struck her head on the dresser and suffered a concussion.

Any way Chasenthedragon couldn't get our crime lab or the FBI to use his free samples of pastel colored chalk in a spray can, in exchange for public endorsements. Chasenthedragon and bubbles both tried to explained at their presentation that crime scenes would be much, much prettier to look at, crime scene photos would take on a new feel and participation roles would be assigned by a specific color....ie....pink for a female victim, blue for a male victim and so on......

Both entities could not make Chasenthedragon or bubbles understand the fact that these would not hold up on a exterior scene. Sooooooo now a small warehouse near the intersection Wellington and Elston Ave sits with a couple hundred thousand cans of pastel colored crime scene spray chalk...."Chalky 2.0".......I'm sure Chasenthedragon thinks he will be able to sell these to D.I.N.K.s and Yuppies who wanna get high on their city permitted pot.

Mcpuffpuffpass is just looking for another reason to do interviews on TV. He will do anything, say anything for an interview........he likes to do radio......but he LOVES TV.

NEVER did anyone enter his office without his first question being....." How did I look last night on the news? Did you see it? Did you see me? How did I look?" This can be confirmed by anyone who walked into his office and by most waitresses where he would score free coffee in uniform.

I will admit......Mcpuffpuffpass did shine his own shoes to a high gloss shine right there at his desk, while Chasenthedragon had the guy, the non city employee in the hallway of area 3 do it.

I hope, and pray, that the "boys and girls" will realize that they have been put in a no win situation . The democrats have pushed through the legalization of weed because, well, the folks who support them smoke weed. They sold it to the public as a source of revenue. The revenue is not going to be there, but the high tax is going to enlarged the already black marker (as the poster above stated so well).

The conservatives backed it because they won't be paying the tax anyway, and everyone, even conservatives, like to tax others.

So, what is going to happen? The folks who run these operations, and are trying to get rich(er) are going to cry to the mayor, who is going to put the pressure on the cops to arrest members of the community who are selling weed. One of these peddlers is going to get hurt when they resist and the cops are going to be in the hot seat.

Being a retired high ranking police officer does not make you an expert in security. There is a lot more entailed in the security field that takes study and experience. I have been in both fields and I can tell you this with certainty. Many in the security field resent retired LEO because of their lack of knowledge. this also is a mistake for security and law enforcement can learn from each other.

MC was always rude and condescending. Years ago I had the opportunity to experience his rath over the phone.....Yelling at me because the person he wanted to talk to wasn’t in the office, like it was my fault. I remember thinking who is this jerk and what’s his problem.......left a lasting impression of being a real jag.

So I heard the reason these places have some much cash on hand is they can not deposit into a normal bank. The banks are run/backed federally and since weed is still illegal on a federal level they can not lawfully take their deposits. So they have to store the cash on hand or find a way to launder it so they can bank it.

Yeah, that's been a thing since legalization in Colorado. Pretty common knowledge.

He was one of The most condescending, narcissistic, self centered- jag off‘s that ever sat at the HGS sergeant’s desk of area 4.

And the Lt.'s desk at A-3, and the Dept. Chief's desk at HQ. I worked with him as far back as tact. Sgt. in Town Hall. Although he had a lot of personality quirks he treated everyone pretty good if you were a worker, up until the time that you may have had
the unfortunate circumstance of being in front of a TV camera that he thought he should have been in front of. Then he really turned into a prick that would go out of his way to hurt you.

Other than that an all around great condescending, narcissistic, self centered what ever. I can't see him partnering up with
McCarthy who showed him the door as one of his first orders of business soon after arrival.

He's gone a long way (and made a lot of money) on shaky
science, bullshit presentations, and inflated promises.

I remember as a P.O walking in to A/4 and towards an interview room where my Agg. Batt. Offender sat. Chasen came out of an office with his hands on his hips, stared at me, and said, “Can I help you!.” I did not even look at him and said, “No.” He stood there looking at me like I just threw his Halloween candy in the garbage.

Chasen was a very aggressive sergeant and police officer when he worked in 013 years ago. He had plenty of clout and when he was a lieutenant was promoted to captain by Hillard and he never even applied for the job. He had supervisory roles in the detectives but never was a working dick. Plenty of people are getting into the business of security for the weed industry as there is plenty of cash involved for them.Gainer, the former sergeant of arms of the senate travels the country doing the same thing.

I predict wild shootouts based on inside information with multiple casualties. Too much actually cash to resist. Only a matter of time before they begin. Once it starts it will compel the Federal government to reconsider their banking restrictions or suffer the blame for armed hijack robberies nation wide, then all these weed cowboys will be back in the Dollar stores wraslin womens. Look at what metal recycling businesses do to prevent this, as they have the best record defending their cash supplies.

All of these quotes about MC are hilarious! But NONE of you were there for the mandatory physical examinations for Lieutenat promotions. It was the first time in Department history you had to submit to an extensive physical, including urine test, blood work and a prostate exam. We all had to strip down to our 'skivys' and adorn a gown. He turned redder and redder as the moments passed and finally stood up and screamed it was undignified... with his ass exposed out the backside of the gown, we were in shock. He was politely told, "No problem Sergeant, you can return to your previous assignment as a Sergeant"! He promptly set his ass down and complied! If he reads these words he'll know exactly who I am because I was'nt just there, I was sitting right next to him!
