Don't Be Stupid
This is probably not a smart idea:
- (012) (3rd Watch) so anyone know who was the individual or individuals who recorded the Sgt. at roll call? We were all told there was going to be an investigation and getting an open CR or possibly fired from the job. All of a sudden it’s hush hush as though nothing ever happened??
You're much better off documenting who was present at roll call and having everyone give a statement as to the Sergeant stupidity. Illinois has some of most restrictive laws regarding recording - two party consent and all that - strictly to prevent this sort of thing from being used in state courts and also to identify/punish/fire whistle-blowers. God forbid you actually catch the connected acting illegally and having nothing apart from multiple witnesses giving the same information.

I've been warning against this stupidity pretty much every time one of you suggests recording roll call, or any boss telling you something. It's not legal. It's against department policy. And it's stupid. Dumbasses.
SCC, he’s a great Sgt. He was a blessing to have on mids. Eccentric at times but that’s his personality.
So a Sgt gets recorded while on-duty and on the clock? We assume we're recorded (and probably correct) as soon as we start our shift up until the time we leave for home. Welcome to the CPD 2.0 Sarge. It's been like this for the last few years. Don't be a jerk or say illegal things at roll-call and you won't have to worry about being recorded.
Take notes, write down who was present , keep a log.
Couldnt this be covered under Whistleblower statue? Especially if it involves something the biolation if citizens rights?
Stupid is as stupid does.
I was at the roll call neither sgt said anything bad. Both sgts are good people. The person that recorded is pissed off that their partnership was broken up. That's all. But thanks for bringing attention to the watch now as*holes.
Wow. The sgt came in the next day and explained that recording is the wrong approach. He even said he wasnt doing any discipline. What a bunch of jackass on 3rd watch. Everyone keeps saying how bad the sgts are. Unreal. Sgt L is a stroke. Sgt A has been doing a sgt study group everyday he is not a bad guy. Sgt V is useless and scared. Sgt F is moody as hell. The sgt they are talking about is new to the watch he is an asshole, who needs to watch what he says at roll call.
Throw away camera false account and post on You Tube for all the world to see. Or failing that how about one of those hidden cameras in roll call room. Not hard to do any more. Live feed controlled by someone not in room. That way everyone at roll passes lie detector test. Lots of ways to beat the system just have to think outside the box.
When speaking with any higher rank in the field always have your camera on or a witness present. Know your rights and protections.
I thought you could record criminal behavior without consent, no? It'd be good to have a valid legal opinion on this? What about abusive or threatening language? is that legally recordable?
Public service employees have no right to privacy while on duty
We don't get freedom of speech at work... so why would they have recording privacy? Perhaps whistleblower protections cover this?
When will news media show us special Ed tutoring his squeeze for the oral exam
What if a PO leaves his official BWC on at roll call, then FOIA's the recording?
Now there is a blanket cr,and all the coppers will be writing paper and getting interviewed thanks to this asshat!
Like SCC said, document everything, and present it for investigation. If there's 20 people saying the same thing, even the Chicago police department isn't dumb enough to take the side of 1 person over 20 people (that was a little humor, of course CPD is that dumb). But you're much better off not recording, as many others stated. Roll calls are for discussing police business and often have pertinent information not meant for the general public. And as a fellow P.O., I'd be pissed if you were recording in my roll call, regardless of the reason.

Oh come on! Unbelievable! This poster must have ZERO friends in the district.
That Sgt is cool as hell. You must be either the Thompson Twins Sgt L or Sgt A making this comment or maybe you’re the one whose feelings got hurt. It’s not as bad as The Thompson Twins Sgt’s yelling out their favorite words “SPARS, CR’s oh MY!! Too bad they can’t bid out... it used to be a nice watch before these clowns came along.. I mean before the twins arrived.
Didn’t the consent decree say that the police can be recorded while in the performance of duty.
I was at that roll call the next day both sgt a and sgt s just said to stop playing children games. They never had any intention of doing discipline. But because someone decided to air this shit out and not leave it in 12. What do you morons think is going to happen now. I have less then year and half till retirement. I have never seen shit like this
1/31/2020 02:28:00 PM,
012 3W has not been a nice watch since 2012.
Merge with 013 in Jan 2013 forced a lot of good officers from old 012 onto midnights, old 012 bosses went.to days, and the new watch suddenly became very 013-centric. Shitshow. Has sucked ever since.
Those are.facts, not opinion s.

Actually I have lots of friends (both on-duty and retired) but my rant isn't meant to be friendly or warm. It's about self-preservation. Have you seen who they're promoting in the last few years? Have you not seen how bad this job has become? And our leadership and policies aren't getting any better. Everyday someone posts another story about a bat-s*** crazy sergeant or lieutenant. Whether it's a bi-polar and/or incompetent boss telling you to do something illegal or against contract or trying to stick his dirty dick or her dirty fist in some PPO, you can have 20 cops witness it and then when asked get 20 different stories. How many times have you heard "if it's not documented or recorded...it didn't happen"? Maybe that's why our supervisors think they can get away with anything. If I can be recorded all day at work (making split-second decisions under impossible standards) then they can too. If you want to be taken seriously and taken care of you have to play dirty. Being friendly will not get you far. Not in this department. Now I'm done talking to you...good day Sir/Mame.
So “Peter Griffin” and his chubby flirtatious partner decide to record the new sergeant on the watch during roll-call. Then the dummy chubster decides to send the video to other officers she knows, including officers up north. And within hours of the roll-call, several dozen officers have this video. Those two idiots should be stripped and fired. That’s the real story. - 3rd Watch officer witness.
Wouldn't that be considered whistleblowing?
It's quite easy, you ask a coworker if you can video them during roll call. They say , ok, and you video them. The Sgt. starts talking during your video, so what. I'm videoing my coworker with his consent.
Oh yes, recording must be prevented. God forbid anyone see and hear the truth. Meantime the public and job can record you as much as they want.
The double standard always screws the low man.
I was at this rollcall the Sgt is an asshole. The other sgt did not say one word. Even the next day I was there and neither sgt talked about punishment. I know we use this blog to blast people but it is bringing attention to the watch. The sgts aren't that bad. Sgt L is an asshole. Sgt A has gotten me out of a jam two times already. Sgt v he is okay. Sgt F is shady and like the above said moody. Both sgt m are okay. And sgt g is super chill. Not a bad place to work.
“I was at this rollcall the Sgt is an asshole.”
He makes no bones about it. You know exactly what to expect and that’s what makes it great.
Actually Sgt S is a good guy and a decent sergeant...he just has a crude sense of humor. The younger officers are being overly sensitive. CPD 2.0 indeed.

Spot on.
The FEDs taught me to record the meet.
Right in the privacy of your home all the facts from tape.
Destroy tape and state you took notes right after meeting.
also all witness in room to TRAP them in a perjury trap.
GOOD LUCK....
The Sgt s in 012 are ok . Except for Sgt L he seems to have a Napoleon complex
