Rumor of the day:
  • Get this - passing score for Part I of the sergeants exam has been set at 44%
Remember, when taking an exam, you're only as good as the dumbest clout baby.

And you can rest assured that the guy or gal with 44% will be promoted along with officers scoring in the top 100. In fact, they'll be answering your "Request for a Supervisor" calls and talking to citizens, all while knowing less than 50% of the testable portion of the job.

Great test takers don’t equate to great leaders, nor do poor ones. It’s something more than this gauge. Every question on the test could be easily looked up on a phone in seconds giving you the answer if in that situation. They need to revamp the whole system.

Only 44 percent? Nice to see they are emulating South Africa's Matric test results where the minimum score for a pass is 30 percent. So in the mathematics exam for example 54 percent passed by achieving a mark of at least 30 percent. That's pretty bad. So perhaps next time CPD crank it up to 50 percent to pass like the SA high schools plan to do. Just make sure there are special study groups for the the clouted ones. It's all legit ask LT Fenner.

Speaking of over promoted merit goofs. Area south LT Spradley is curious he got called out on his fake cameras he set up in the unit to make coppers think he’s spying on them. The other day the noble promoted LT printed out everyone’s activity on posted it on the wall trying to embarrass coppers. Then he said overtime is activity based, not seniority based. When asked to tell us what activity he didn’t say a word. He won’t put it down on paper either. A real company coward. Then he threatened to switch day and night teams and keep them on a rotation. What a pussy hole. Tell us again how much you studied for your promotional tests.

44%? Well anyone who passes the test should NOT brag about passing since most if not all should pass..Even a High School kid has a 50-50 shot at passing! Also, it proves the Mr. Beck is FULL OF SHIT when he says changes are coming..Since the merits won't get promoted, at least this time around if its true what they say, well make sure they pass with a 44%. Seriously, it takes 2 months to figure out and score a 44%? Sounds like the Clout are behind close doors again. This Dept. sucks.

Hahaha.....yea when I call for a Sgt I want a person who barely made it out of CPS and then never studied for Sgt test who scored a 45%.......100 questions.....scantron test which is graded before you leave the test site. Test given by a non clouted company. No subject matter experts (wink wink) who have access to the test prior. Then you would get the best and smartest candidates. If the results do not reflect the demographics of the City....so be it.....study harder next time merit fucks.

As it has been in SCC and the news, the CFD testing is also bizarre. In most every other career US fire department the test-taker must score at least a 70 (passing grade for most)in order to challenge the oral examination. CFD requires a pulse. We have functioning illiterates get a 50% on the written (any CPD [yes] officer could probably pull that off)and 100% on the oral,... ahem! The score, with minimal seniority, will be 75 and considered passing and eligible for merit(also a farce).

Now wait 10 years between exams and voila1! - that slug with the 75 will be a battalion chief (and appointed above according to their clout)or any other promoted rank.

Additionally, CFD promotional exams are most often incredibly easy so that those who studied hard are clumped together in a tight group at the top. This allows for the "band" to encompass the dolts.

For those unfamiliar with the term "band", it is the latest euphemism for quatas. An example: if the band is 7 (we are not sure how this magical number is conjured) and a white test-taker receives a composite score of 95, a member of the protected class who gets an 88 grade has the same grade and gets promoted at the same time as the white.

Good luck with ACLU, EEOC, Legal Aid of U of C, etc - "ya gotta understand ..."

Forty Four Percent? If the fact that they cant tell you what the "magic" number is BEFORE you take the test doesn't scream impropriety, then nothing will. Also add in the extended time interval to grade a simple scantron test answer sheet. (We vote with those you know) So much for transparency here...The results should be immediate boys and girls.
The reason we cant have a legitimate promotion process here is because no one in charge of this city or department is interested in having a legitimate promotion process.
I'm ready to leave this G-d forsaken city, and it is as bad as the day I arrived. Look throughout he history of this second city, and you will find it as corrupt as it always has been since it's inception in the 1800's.

I don’t necessarily disagree with on that premise, but there should be a higher standard of basic knowledge of the job that requires at least a 70% passing score on the exam. There should without a doubt be a resource based (open book) portion of the exam that asks completely obscure questions that requires test takers to determine which resources they are going to need to determine the correct answer. I’d rather have a supervisor that can tell me that they don’t know the answer, but will get the answer for me, than some fool that lies to my face and gives me bad advice. All this being said, almost everyone should know how to look an order up on their phone should they need to, there’s no need to call a sergeant with those questions.

Ridiculous!!! What an insult to all of those officers who sacrificed so much of their time studying day after day. The passing score should be set before anyone takes this exam. Getting a 44 on this exam and passing is just plain corrupt way of getting the Clout kids in. The passing score should be at a minimum 65, as is standard in any educational system. This would eliminate half of all participants and establish a small but competitive number of people taking part 2 of the exam. If they are setting such a low score to pass they might as well just give everyone a participation trophy and pass everyone.

We were all told there was going to be an investigation and getting an open CR or possibly fired from the job. All of a sudden it’s hush hush as though nothing ever happened?? 3 years ago an officer I know who is hard working, honest, fair and displayed a positive proactive mentality, was promoted by merit. He scored badly in the last Sgt’s exam and had his hard work and dedication not been noticed, he would of never became a supervisor. That Sgt is now in a busy district, and his troops/watch speak highly of him. I can say that this guy has stuck to his values and has made the best out of every situation he’s had. So being a bd test taker isn’t necessarily a good reason to disqualify someone. Stop being a hater and appreciate the good P.I’d that will make the guy and potentially serve the purpose of what a real leader should be. No one likes a fucking cry baby.

Beck, Lt Spradley is such an embarrassment to the District personnel and the Dept. Even if only half of the embarrassingly and just nutty things he does in public what does this say about his thinking process and poor judgement. He does these goofy antics in front of the rank and file too. He is a senior supervisor who held other positions of responsibility doing similar crazy stuff. Put this guy in charge of checking for illegal fishermen at Navy Pier and get a real Lt for the troops.

That's funny. So the girlfriend of a trooper told on him and he told on the others. He obviously wasn't keeping her happy. What a secret to hold over him, marry me or I'll tell and ruin your career!

But what did they really expect, it was an online portion of their testing and was supposed to be on the honor system. A must pass to go on with training and it was done online on the honor system? Really dumb idea. Bet no one in the upper ranks that thought of this stupid idea got canned or demoted.

They seem most concerned with the 130 violations the human ticket machines wrote as troopers. Come to the crooked county up north, CPD will take them. Yes, there are black, brown and white cheaters in this group of fools. Dumb is everywhere.

3 years ago an officer I know who is hard working, honest, fair and displayed a positive proactive mentality, was promoted by merit. He scored badly in the last Sgt’s exam and had his hard work and dedication not been noticed, he would of never became a supervisor. That Sgt is now in a busy district, and his troops/watch speak highly of him. I can say that this guy has stuck to his values and has made the best out of every situation he’s had. So being a bd test taker isn’t necessarily a good reason to disqualify someone. Stop being a hater and appreciate the good P.I’d that will make the guy and potentially serve the purpose of what a real leader should be. No one likes a fucking cry baby.

So you are in favor of keeping the merit system, eh? I'm glad to hear he is a good supervisor but how many like your example are there in the world of merit promotions in CPD? I don't believe a person should be given such a bump strictly because they have a good attitude and are doing the job they are paid to do or due to some clout. And who makes that determination anyway? The system of merit breeds abuse and should be abolished. Sure there are people that are not good test takers that could make good supervisors and those that are excellent test takers might suck at being a supervisor. Still testing is the system, it's used all the way through school. Attitude can help people down the road but doesn't and shouldn't make up for doing very poorly in a test. People that aren't so good at taking tests have to adapt and try harder next time. Well not the guy that got the bump, he got his reward already. Of course the testing should be administered in a professional manner, fair and ethical with a quality test given. The results should be fast and accurate. But who am I kidding, this is CPD. And with types like Babs "Pillow" West in charge, one can't expect any positive change in future. The leaky, creaking ship carries on.

My question is why can't these scores ever be posted. They did it for city tests in the academy. Ohhhh that's right the talk of no merit is all a puppet show. Look at my right hand while the left is about to ram it in your butt. What a joke. You know it's all legit when in 4th grade we'd have scranton tests back in 15 minutes with grades,yet it takes months for them do a sgts test. Yeah all legit.

Speaking of over promoted merit goofs. Area south LT Spradley is curious he got called out on his fake cameras he set up in the unit to make coppers think he’s spying on them. The other day the noble promoted LT printed out everyone’s activity on posted it on the wall trying to embarrass coppers. Then he said overtime is activity based, not seniority based. When asked to tell us what activity he didn’t say a word. He won’t put it down on paper either. A real company coward. Then he threatened to switch day and night teams and keep them on a rotation. What a pussy hole. Tell us again how much you studied for your promotional tests.

Beck, Lt Spradley is such an embarrassment to the District personnel and the Dept. Even if only half of the embarrassingly and just nutty things he does in public what does this say about his thinking process and poor judgement. He does these goofy antics in front of the rank and file too. He is a senior supervisor who held other positions of responsibility doing similar crazy stuff. Put this guy in charge of checking for illegal fishermen at Navy Pier and get a real Lt for the troops.

He’s a paranoid schizophrenic. Very weird. Don’t trust that dude. What how he cuts his eyes while talking and crip around corners.

I just feel that if your looking for professionalism in the department, officers should have to pass with at least a 70%. I mean your taking on the roll of a supervisor, it's bad enough the qualifications are 3 years on job and only 2 years of college. Again, I feel if your going to be a supervisor on this job, you should have to have a min of at least 10 years on, and a bachelors degree. You want professionalism this is where you start.
