Facial Recognition
If you're putting your information out there in a public forum without any sort of filters or cares, then you deserve whatever you have coming to you if you're committing crimes:
- The Chicago Police Department is using a controversial facial recognition tool that allows investigators to search an image of unknown suspects to see if it matches a database of three billion photos lifted from websites like Facebook, YouTube and Twitter — a technology privacy advocates say is so ripe for abuse that cops should stop using it immediately.
Clearview AI, the Manhattan-based firm that developed the software, has come under fire after the New York Times published a bombshell report detailing the privacy concerns its technology has brought to the fore. A lawsuit was filed in federal court in Chicago earlier this month seeking to halt the company’s data collection.
“It’s frightening,” Chicago attorney Scott Drury, who filed the lawsuit, said of CPD’s decision to team up with Clearview AI.
"Frightening" in that suspects might be positively identified in short order after being caught on one of the tens of thousands of Chicago cameras and defense attorneys might not be able to use the usual lies to confuse juries?

At least the liberals haven't figured out about the lpr cameras on 290 or lake shore.
Just like the redlight cameras. They don't want the photo recognition either because the shit works and catches them. If you're not out there doing dirt, then you have nothing to worry about. Don't give me this shit about privacy issues.
Meh... arrested but not convicted thanks to CC justice system; they is a light at the end of the tunnel tho— a free pizza
You have no privacy anymore since the Patriot Act. Edward Snowden revealed the surveillance techniques of the Federal Government. Every text, email, video, photo, website is swept up into the NSA database in Utah.
FartBook was born and became a publicly traded company after DARPA program LifeLog was ended. You think that Soy Latte Drinking Beta Cuck Mark Zuckerberg invented FartBook in a college dorm? Wake the fuck up. Every social media site is designed with the purpose of voluntary usage while allowing your personal information to be archived.
YOU HAVE NO PRIVACY!
It is what happens when all of the databases the government has access to get combine with the camera hardware and facial recognition. Not that I'm a criminal so much I as I do not believe in the supposed goodness of our benevolent government.
can't put that genie back in the bottle why bother trying
Sometimes don’t you just wish we could return to a time with no video cameras at all
False positives are still a problem.

The opposition to Kim Foxx is rooted in racism.
Mr. DeNovi has also been bragging about telling businesses with Garrido signs that he is a Republican. He’s also part of the vocal chorus of internet superstars and cameraphone toughies who harass Gardiner every step of the way. Paul teaches at the Bridge School, which is hardly one of CPS’ rough schools.
This shit works like google images. That's it.
Orwell was right just took a little longer than he predicted.
So would any post outlining bad behavior be covered under the Whistleblower protection Act the Democrats are so fond of. Would be an interesting court case. ALL DEMOCRATS hate it when the rocks they are hiding under get turned over. A sinking boat load of Democratic city leaders would be a good start. Griot, Fat Cheeks Akim and Prickwrinkle all chained to the wheel with no hope of rescue.
why do people even care, Kimm Fuxx has already dismissed all charges.
Why is an attorney crying? More charges brought, more work for him.
Now, kees me you fool!!!!
Hey, you put your badness out on social media and guess what---no expectation of privacy you morons. It's ok for the media to crop a pic of 11-12 year olds throwing up gang signs but not ok for police to solve crimes? Typical leftist bullshit.
Not just Chicago. When you renew your passport or DL they have you remove your glasses. I asked why the change? They stated for facial recognition.
There is no expectation of privacy while walking around on city streets. So go pound sand idiots!
If it scares the lawyers... it’s a good thing.
Sorry, don't want a bunch of Big Tech nerds funneling information about my whereabouts to the Deep State.
hahaha... of course because cops are the bad guys here
it's like when special interest groups now WANT TO REMOVE BODY CAMERAS....... because they are recording terrible people doing the crimes and being convicted for it (well maybe not in chicago cause... Foxx is the SA)
When 95% of the faces matched turn out to be black or brown, the system will be shut down due to inherent racial bias. Frightening indeed.
This is not a good idea! On a recent episode of Chicago PD:The shocking murder of young boys affects Halstead. Crawford encourages Intelligence to use a new facial recognition software to help identify a suspect, but the plan backfires. Guess what? They ID’d the wrong guy and he got killed for it in prison! When art imitates life...
How Many Illegal Alien Child Molesters will it Catch ?
For the every-day, law-abiding citizen, no, it’s not frightening.
Wow the stupidity and ignorance of that statement. Go live in China and ask them how that’s working out for them. Go to Britain and ask how’s that working out for them also ask them when all the bad guys are caught that their governments will turn it off and get pizza. Our dept /SA won’t use this for shitheads, they don’t prosecute shitheads now so why the fuck would they prosecute in the near future! It is for the law abiding citizens fuckwad! Facebook has a data base of people who do not have a Facebook acct. why is that? Why is google in the schools, so they can track you through your education and give you a education score, your college application and why I want to go to Harvard letter will be useless, u don’t have the google score they want. So you’ll be playing ultimate frisbee at Leroy Jenkins community college. Now that’s frightening!

....and no "social" media which of course is part of the whole "Tech" revolution also: Including this blog. Call me a dinosaur if you wish, but I still have a "dumb" flip phone which in and of itself, still gives away too much personal information. Smart phones are dumbing down the whole world.
Add a quarter to a 4.95 purchase after the kid has already entered into the register a five dollar bill and you'll get "but I've already entered five dollars." I had to get a manager to explain that it means I get 20 cents back. True story. She made the excuse for him that he was "new." No, he was stupid.
Look up an appliance or a hammer or whatever, even just from your home computer, and within minutes you are getting ads for that item when you go to a finance site or any other site.
As I commented to some who said in another post that if you are an honest, upright citizen, "you have nothing to fear." Hell yes, you do!
Every word I've written here is now stored somewhere and in more than one place.
Unfortunately, the WWW is a GREAT place for doing serious research. A two sided coin and to again quote another poster above, in summary but not verbatim, "You can't close Pandora's box now."

probably every gang banger/shooter/psychopath in Chicago is or has been on Facebook posing with guns and drugs. I think this is a great tool. But, I can also see the concerns of these social justice warriors/privacy advocates. This certainly sounds like something out of George Orwell novels and someday could easily lead to government abuse. Right now China has hundreds of thousands of cameras all over the country and using facial recognition software to track people. Imagine of Bernie or Pete or Warren( or someone similar) get into office, disarm the public and start to use this technology to limit your free speech .

Lets get rid of fingerprint and dna data bases too. !!!!
It’s preposterous, pugnacious, polarizing and most of all profiling.
Ain't nothing to do wif’ being ugly and unrecognizable.
Besides, under the Rules of Restorative Justice, Sanctuary City in the County of Cook does not recognize video or photo images as prima facie evidence. Neither are fingerprints, recorded confession, witness statements and smoking guns.
They know Home Rule Discretionary Justice can’t be challenged and don’t/won’t prosecute matters deemed politically detrimental.
They also know Feds will not make a case for every instance where Cook Co fails or declines.
Will these people also object to allowing COPA-IAD to use the program for their finger pointing lineups too?

Oh holier-than-thou, the concerns come more with the fuckin nitwit monitoring the camera who's doing stupid shit that he/she shouldn't be looking at! It takes a LOT to understand you do the job in the interest of national security and not because your some insecure douche who feels privileged to invade your personal privacy for his/her pleasure (or out of their own sick psycho jealously).
Preib is going to roll calls blaming others for losing the duty availability. That’s what good communists do they change history. The fact you leave out is the contract was voted on and passed. I know it’s hard to look in the mirror.
It's not so much that "if you have nothing to hide...then you ought not to worry about this", but rather the problem that something which is not illegal right now, may become illegal in the future and all this video can (and typically will) be used to catch you in a trickbag.
There's other issues of concern as well:
* Artificial Intelligence can produce so-called 'Deep Fakes' which on the surface are virtually indistinguishable from the real deal. Now you're in the unholy position of proving your innocence because people tend to believe cameras.
* Not-so-deep fakes, just regular fakes are possible. Take a color pic of someone's license plate. Stick it on a car of similar color/make, go blasting through school zones and red lights... who's getting the ticket? If it were a cop on-site, they'd see through that bullshit scam and arrest the scammer. But with a camera system - it looks legit, so the owner gets the ticket and has to prove they weren't at a particular location at a particular time... This has happened already - to a principal, some kids pulled the scam, didn't get caught for a while.
* All this information can be misused by any number of bad actors - Governmental Employees, Hackers, Terrorists, etc. to capture information on someone easily, determine their typical schedule or locations they frequent, and then commit some nefarious act. You take different routes to/from the Station right? Well, in this case with enough cameras integrated into the system, it won't matter how many routes you take because someone can go back and figure out where you were, and when.
* What if someone posted your picture w/o your consent to some social network site? Now what? Everyone gets to use it for whatever they want forever? Fuq dat... Just because it's out there doesn't mean that every company gets to usurp an image for their own commercial purposes. Plenty of actors and artists have a hissy fit if someone uses their image for commercial purposes w/o permission, paying royalties, etc. so why ought I or any citizen be any different? Want to use my image? Pay me - every single time you access it - watch this bullshit come to a quick hard stop.
* Hypothetical: You choose to retire out of this hellhole of a State because >insert reason here<. You take care of business, clean up what needs to be taken care of, and choose NOT to leave a forwarding address for any fool (such as a guy you put away 15 years ago) to locate you in your old age. This company comes along, sells their product, the shithead you locked up 15 yrs ago is getting out, and he's still pissed at you. Hears you retired, figures you'll be easy to fuck with. Where are you? No one knows - except this image system that sells info to everyone (or to some corrupt person who has access), and you get picked up and cataloged when you go to the grocery store in your new town... Bing! You've got instant risk. Even if coppers images are exempt, you know how reliable computer systems are - they never make mistakes that leak data, right?
Forget this automated, make it easy to look people up crap. It's dangerous on many levels. The balance between government searches and difficulty is supposed to lean toward the more difficult. You have to investigate, gather info, make your pitch to a Judge, get a warrant, then go do more investigating/searching, and make your case. Not "bing, bang, boom - scoop up someone's entire life in 10 seconds because they happened to go outside, or hell, even stayed inside and got their home camera system hacked...
Be careful what you wish for. CPD is not Clearview's only customer, and what's good for cops catching bad guys is also good for SJWs trolling cops. Remember that one time you went to a pro gun, right wing, whatever political event? The might social media data-mining operation does. And for the right price, Clearview and its customers would be happy to help the rest of the world remember it, too. Mark my words, if this stuff sticks around you guys *will* be mad as hell about it in a year or two.
Also keep in mind that the photos were not necessarily uploaded with the consent of all parties involved. People walking around in the background, that sort of thing.
Yada yada yada go the libtards...one of the earlier commenters is right, there already is no privacy if you use social media, and you, SCC, are also correct, if someone puts themselves out there they have no complaint. Of course that won't stop the libtards. Let's go back to five-man lineups in dark rooms with four white guys and the minority perp. Hehe, that would make the libs happy, wouldn't it? Of course not, they will never be happy. Acting miserable and whining all the time is what they do.

Fucking liberal snowflakes. Oh it so frightening that the government may be able to identify criminals and terrorists, it such an invasion of privacy. Can we send all the liberals and shitheads to one state, build a wall around it and never let them out.
OT smash and grab at gucci tonight. Right in front of news cameras. Wonder if their cameras facial recognition works?
They jumped into a waiting white van crimesha's ferals just funnin again.
Facial recognition software is not accurate yet. Maybe some day it will be, but right now there is no exact match. It's still a guessing game and should not be used by any agency.
what happened to liberals ? hippies in the 70s would have never been for these cameras everywhere. i guess their not really liberals anymore but really stalinists who want their enemies ( the rest of us ) in gulags. as the man said you cant put the genie back in the bottle but this new tech is truly a double edged sword. the best and the worst shit ever to come ashore all in one. well time to pull up my rabbit ears, turn on metv and watch a little andy of mayberry. oh that barney is so silly, and goober and gomer.............

And make no bones about it, once you look directly at the camera and smile, that eye scan is captured. Digital iris snd retina lovked and loaded. And they've hacked our electric voting systems here in the "chi" (stupid fucking CPS name)
I have never been a police officer. I am a cybersecurity engineer. There are serious problems with the technology, in that it is unreliable for matching faces correctly, and that it is subject to hacking and the associated privacy concerns for non-scumbags. The technology is not ready for prime time and should not be used until it is.
Good find @1/31/2020 01:23:00 PM
Since 2004 some people have been using IR light in clothes (clip on LED and battery packs) to fool cameras but I am glad to see that commercialized.

I recall that... Those high school kids called it the "pimping game" and did that with plain paper and license plate number font printed out.

The arms race between CPD computers and cameras and crooks will be underway by 2022. Who can spy and match vs who can fool the system or hide themselves.
New way to catch crooks with high tech computers scanning images? The old fashion ways don't fail as they are now.
The failing is when Kimmy Foxx fails to put the caught criminals in prison for any amount of time. No multi camera AI super computer is going to cure that!
I lean toward privacy and less invasive tech and not having the government looking at me all the time 1984 style.
Again, the issue with law enforce is always the failing of the courts more then it is that any police department can't seem to find and catch the really bad dudes as needs be.
KF will just refuse to charge them or reduce the charges to some petty BS.
