So a bunch of sheriffs and more than a few inmates scheduled for release have now tested positive for COVID-19. Dart claims that he was releasing inmates to protect them from the disease....
....but weren't they already quarantined? Segregated from society at large? And with a hospital already on the grounds of the jail?
Now a bunch of them are walking amongst the populace for no apparent reason except to make the social justice warriors feel better, while police stations lobbies are (still) open and cops are getting infected daily.

The smart move would have been to quarantine those with covid-19 in the old boot camp barracks, not release these criminals back into society.

You could not have said it any better. Both him and Campanelli think they are saving the world when they just doomed it further. I feel bad for the families that are now taking them into their homes and the community for which they are going to wreak havoc upon. The shelters are full, social services are limited and no walk-in clinics to see a doctor to prescribe insulin, hypertension, and even psychiatric medications. Once again their initiative to save the detainees was short sighted and poorly planned.

CO at the jail here. We were told we cannot wear PPE in the jail because the inmates will be upset that they don’t have any. So many of us have symptoms and fevers and were told to report to work anyway.

Inmates aren’t in segregation they are in general population plus add all the sexual activity amongst them and of course the virus will spread.

Yes they are and if they don't have any they have to use their time on the books.
These officers have no protective gear (masks,hand wipes etc) unless they buy their own.
The entire NY jail system has 98 cases with NY numbers 25× that of Chicago. Looks like incompetent Tommy messed up again. Now he does one inmate per cell after virus already spreading.

So they keep harmless families, law-abiding middle aged people & senior citizens, who probably spent hard earned savings for vacation on cruise ships for weeks whether they tested positive or not to keep them quarantined and avoid infecting the general populace, but we let reckless criminals with nothing to lose out of jail? Makes sense to me.
If I can be locked in my house for two weeks, why can’t these assholes be locked in their cell?
When i worked for Dart the Fart on court side lockup the inmate blankets were cleaned once a month. The mattresses were never cleaned to my knowledge and we put the blood stained ones off to the side. We told Chief last name Banks who basically said he didn't give a shit. I think was forced into retirement after about a dozen sexual harassment complaints. That was after Fart promoted him despite being an accused repeated sexual predator. Unless you work for fart you have no clue how fucked up that place is. God speed to officers in jail.
US Attorney General Bill Barr put out alert 6 inmates in the entire Federal prison system tested positive. Did someone forget to tell him the CC jail has at least 20 times that.
