Interesting

  • Chicago’s 53 elected officials — including Mayor Lori Lightfoot — should forfeit their pay for 15 days to generate $374,642 to purchase protective gear and other supplies for first-responders on the front-lines on the war against the coronavirus, an alderman suggested Friday.

Ald. Ray Lopez (15th), one of Lightfoot’s most outspoken City Council critics, said the pandemic requires the mayor, city clerk, treasurer and 50 aldermen to “lead by example.”

With $6.5 million set aside annually for Chicago’s elected officials, the 15-day furlough would generate just $374,642.

But Lopez argued that in a crisis like this, “Every dollar matters.” He wants to re-direct the savings to the city’s Office of Emergency Management and Communications to purchase supplies for police officers, firefighters, nurses and other first-responders.
The Slum Times paints him as an "outspoken City Hall critic," but it's going to take a lot more than that to impress us.

Nice start though.

Maybe the alderman should donate those Colt ARs with all the Barbie bling the city bought for their minions to use to protect the aldercreatures from angry constituents.
I wonder how many of those who have access to and got training with these weapons have FOID cards? 20% maybe. Are convicted felons? 20% maybe.Oh you're right. 30%

How about the aldermans discretionary millions. Sounds like a good plan but by the time they do anything half the workers will be sick.

Ok, how’s ‘bout that roughly 1.1 million “discretionary” fund???
How ‘bout giving that up??? That’s per Alderperson. What’s that total???
‘Round 50 MILLION dolores? That’ll buy a lot of PPE. Proper PPE.

Certainly he’s going out to be the biggest pain in the ass for Lari LightLoafer and that’s always a welcomed.
He made it known he’s most independent and less progressive.
It’s some plan he came up with, but it seems trivial and based on good faith while avoiding the true nonsense of City waste and pandering spending. Wonder how that Sanctuary ID card program is going. I’m betting it’s a flop. That budget has to have a couple million and growing sitting around.

$357,000 is chump change.
Lopez idea is silly, just silly, silly silly.

But glancing over the 2020 City Budget appropriations...
Did You Know:
- Mayor’s Office is allowed to spend every penny of $10.5 million
- OEMC is allowed spend every penny of $26 million
- COPA is allowed to spend every penny of $13.7 million

I’ll let y’all figure out the dollar-to-employee spending ratio.

Silliness, that shit is contagious.
Whole damn town went batty shit crazy.

The gov and Mayor are in panic mode. Illinois has no reserve cash. With all the businesses closed, revenue will be cut short. Who do they blame?

Trump!

No PPE? Who makes out the purchase orders? ...it's trumps fault. Trump put Illinois into debt. Trump put Chicago in financial ruin. Trump ran the state and city government for years and spent money like a drunken sailor.

The rainy day has come and there is no money. It's trumps fault.

Bug them on their websites and twitter/facebook pages with this question. I do it daily. I'm also bugging Andre in 40 and staff in 36 and 43 on Twitter with questions on WHY PEA's are even out there during this pandemic. There are like 7 actual Public Safety parking tickets. And having my people just in the CBD makes no sense with how dead it is right now.

As for the couple of posters saying "Stop Paying CPD employees" FU.

I know a lot of CPD have CPS employee family members/spouses. Every Non Emergency responder City employee needs every dime we can get from the City during this shutdown of Non-Essential Services. This is a situation where I can't just run out and get a PT Job working Events or Security in Retail. Delivery Jobs are also getting heavy applications right now from the people that Don't get a check while they are on "Stay at home" orders from their employers.

Times like This, we don't need negativity towards other City Workers.

We can hate on them when everything goes back to normal.

If it does.

People need to know, as pointed out in The Hill, just because an official issues an order it does not mean its lawful. People should also realize that just because a law is passed at the state level it may well have components in that law that are unconstitutional.

For example, one of the powers the Governor has under the law is “(9) To suspend or limit the sale, dispensing, or transportation of alcoholic beverages, firearms, explosives, and combustibles.”

This is a perfect example of a law getting passed with clearly unconstitutional provisions. Had such a provision been invoked we are confident gun rights lawyers would be standing in line to file federal lawsuits against the state.

Considering the US Constitution as well as the Illinois Constitution protects people’s right to own a firearm, we are quite confident no legislative body has the power to strip people of their right to buy a firearm, let alone transport one.

We believe the Governor’s attorneys have recognized how absurd that granted power relating to firearms is in light of the language in the most recent Executive Order, and thank the Governor for not trampling peoples’ 2nd amendment rights. Gun stores can remain open and people can transact business with them during the declared State of Emergency.
