- Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx is halting prosecutions of narcotics and cannabis cases amid the worldwide outbreak of COVID-19, according to a letter obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times.
First Assistant State’s Attorney Joe Magats sent a letter Thursday to First Deputy Supt. Anthony Riccio of the Chicago Police Department, telling him that because of an Illinois State Police directive suspending lab testing of narcotics, the prosecutor’s office was left with “no good faith basis to proceed with these cases.”

What about the email sent to detectives about ASAs interviewing victims and witnesses via FaceTime/Skype and not responding to the areas, having detectives do their own lock-ins but the ADS is still responsible for determining charges?!!

The real problem is that dope dealers do not practice shelter in place and social isolation. Each dealer will potentially infect their clandestine customers with the China virus. Their customers are already pre-disposed to disobey the law and are more likely that the general public to also not practice shelter in place and social isolation. Any policy leaving a dope dealing structure in place with no threat of law enforcement will turn Chicago (and Illinois) into Italy which is leading the world (if you believe lying China's claims of reduced deaths) in deaths.

I guess you did not spend much of your 30+ in court if you do not know Joe Magats. If you had, you would know Joe to have always been a fine man and ASA. The fact that he is notifying the Police of the fact that narcotics will not be processed through the ISP labs during this time is actually keeping coppers out of harms way of the lawsuits that will result from making arrests for which prosecution would not be possible without a lab report.

Get your facts straight first. 1. It wasn’t a traffic warrant. 2. You believe “white guys” word that the warrant was taken care of? Well, Warrant was good. 3. I like 10hrs days, more time off and I do love OT. Nobody wants these spots..that’s why theres over 100 applicants every time there is a NOJO.
