New and Improved!

  • Law-abiding travelers willing to ditch their weed before boarding a plane from Chicago now have a safer way to do it.

Earlier this week, the city rolled out new, permanent “cannabis amnesty boxes” at the end of security checkpoints at O’Hare and Midway airports, according to Chicago police spokeswoman Maggie Huynh.

The new weed boxes are painted green and have a more secure, mailbox-like loading compartment. They are made of metal — and bolted to the floor.
Here's a picture:

Looks like they stole a few boxes from the UPS store and painted them green.

No trash?

If you consider the vile effect cannabis has on your brain, body and personality I'd consider weed to be trash in the truest use of the term.

Funny if some joker tossed a lighted paper or other combustible/lit item into the box... Then just kept on walking to catch a flight.

Smokey the Bear says only you can prevent weed amnesty box fires! YOU!

At least we now know what became of all those GMac Snitch Boxes (Blockbuster Video).

That’s one big box and one big invoice for a box at every TSA check in line. How many parcels of weed do you think one can hold? They must be expecting cartel sized bundles to show up.

What kind of moron is going to be advised, urged, prodded to voluntarily drop their expensive city scarce legal grams of boutique herb in a tin box that nobody knows what happens to it afterwards? I expect some connected entrepreneur is going to be allowed offer on-site Weed Locker rentals next because of a 4th Amendment violation.

Are there official collection logs that document and keep track of the contents, maybe some periodic auditing?
Makes you wonder who has the contract to collect (and redistributed to a community desert) the contents in these amnesty boxes.
Run that one by IG Ferguson.

The real question is, what happens to the weed that gets dumped in those boxes? I'm not believing for a second that it gets destroyed, though I'm very sure it is "disposed of".
