CCL Defends Herself

  • A woman with a concealed-carry permit stopped a robbery Thursday after exchanging gunfire with the would-be robber in Little Village on the Southwest Side.

The woman was standing in front of her home about 6:50 p.m. in the 4100 block of West 24th Place when a male approached her with a gun and demanded her property, Chicago police said.

The 33-year-old refused to hand over her things, and instead pulled out a gun of her own, police said. The two exchanged gunfire as the male ran off, and no one was struck.
Without a CCL, she would have lost all her property and quite possibly, her dignity if he decided he wanted a bit more. Nothing was stopping him - not a moral compass, not the police, no neighbors in sight, etc.

It's a shame she didn't hit him.

police should be able to be ccl. we should be able to act as a citizen or police. If we announce our office, its seems to be a lot more trick bag. I pay taxes. I have citizen rights aside from my police job. separate off duty from on duty completely unless we announce police, these days being an officer hurts you more than just joe citizen. It is our right.

Thank the Lord she did not listen to the no-gun-ever dumocrats. She might have saved her own life and/or well-being. Congratulations to her.

To bad she didn't ventilate the asshole but she stood her ground and that is what the city need. More citizens willing to go toe to toe with criminals on their level. Shoot them all and let Kimmie sort them out, she thinks she is god anyway.

Shame on News Affairs for releasing the portion of the narrative stating she was standing in front of her house. It’s like doing a show-up at a victims house.

Then limit your off-duty policing to out-of-state (or four of contiguous jurisdiction). You have no police powers there and are just a legally armed private citizen. Oh, and make sure you have really, really good insurance. You won't be covered as a police officer and will have to pay for an attorney for any civil (or in the worse case criminal) defense.

Surely, some civilians would help, if they had training or weren't scared. Civilian help could hurt the police in some way too.
