I was really worried when I went out for dinner last night. There was a black family sitting near our table, and I thought they might be attacked at any moment by a bunch of "protesting" white people. I don't understand why they were left alone. So strange.

Does anyone remember in use of force where the instructors said if one force option doesn't work try another? Isn't that what the officers did? Even shooting didn't work technically.

Riots Continue On Chicago's Southwest Side.
Mobs have taken control of the normally quiet Archer Ave in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood. This is in response to two black CPD officers shooting an unarmed white man. Every business, doctor's office, tavern and restaurant have been vandalized, looted and/or burned. A veteran at the Archer VFW told us, "This street looks like Berlin, April 1945." Another Vet ask, "Where are the police? On a good day we never see police, but for this they should be kicking ass like at the '68 convention."
We asked Interim Superintendent Beck why there is no police response. He responded, via telephone from Los Angeles California, "Modern 21st century policing requires the police to step back, allow people to vent, work out their anger. Give people room to destroy. Remember, these are just property crimes, nobody's life is in danger. Deputy West is in charge of situation and will do the right thing." Deputy Supt. Barbara West told reporters, "What you want ME to do, shoot more white folks?"
Mayor Lightfoot could not be reached. A spokesperson told us that was in Hollywood, California at a fund raiser for Juicy Smellit. "She is concerned, very concerned" she added.
Cook County States Attorney Kim Foxx was asked about prosecutions. "Oh yeah, we gonna prosecute. Bring me those white devils and we'll throw the book at 'em." We asked Fox about prosecuting the black officers who shot the unarmed white man, she replied, "We will look into it. Examine all the evidence. Take everything into consideration. No need to rush to judgment, we have plenty of time. We should have a decision after the November election."

The current Department is a plethera of inexperience with coppers learning from coppers who have little or no experience themselves. We have people with 24 months teaching people with 12-18 months. The know-nots teaching the know-nothings. Its a recipe for disaster. And a disaster just hit. The involved officers were most likely detailed to that assignment by reverse seniority where the most inexperienced officers who are off their probationary status were sent to police one of the busiest transit systems in the United States, with one of the biggest crime problems that is continuing to grow. That comes from a failurer by the City and the Department heads to adequately staff the transit unit (and many, many other units) due to a do more with less mentaility so the funding can be otherwise mismanaged, and even bigger problem with quality field training and an inability to retain experience and motivation in the field. I could go on and on, but the bottom line is these officers made a huge UNINTENTIONAL mistake based on inexperience and the failings of the City politicians and inept upper management who have for years bolstered ineffective policies and practices, and all of their failings to hold politicians, media and activists accountable for their efforts and agendas to decinate the police department and undermine its members.

I don't agree with what the black officers did, but the POS offender should be charged with resisting and agg batt to po, at the very least. Yes, I added the race of the officers it's just proper reporting these days.

Objectively reasonable, Necessary, Proportional.
Proportional is the key, so they couldn’t just “up” the force on an active resister by shooting him. He was not an assailant.

Let's think about this, 16 shots can't compare to 2 shots, ju ping out of a squad car and unloading within 2 seconds after not even struggling with a offender can't compare to using g taser's, pepper spray ect to firing 16x. The sad part about some of you alls comments is that I can admit the shooting by the female officer was bad,and very poor training ect. Why is everyone still calling the Offender a Male White? I thought so too from the video until they released his identity. He is a Male Hispanic for those who are still trying to push the reverse race narrative. We can at least get that part accurate. Once again, for those of you still doing proactive work who think you know better. You never know when a stop is gonna go sideways on you. Even when you think it’s gonna be for something simple and stupid.
Does anyone remember in use of force where the instructors said if one force option doesn't work try another? Isn't that what the officers did? Even shooting didn't work technically.

Objectively reasonable, Necessary, Proportional.
Proportional is the key, so they couldn’t just “up” the force on an active resister by shooting him. He was not an assailant.

Deadly force was not objectively reasonable, necessary, or proportional. It didn't meet any of the criteria. You can't just escalate to deadly force because you suck at the other options. I know you know that, but this officer clearly didn't. She knew she couldn't handle this guy, so she shot him. That's not how it works.

If available, supervisors who are monitoring the foot pursuit should respond to the scene:
(1) to develop and coordinate a plan for subject apprehension when a perimeter is established, or
(2) when a pursuit results in an arrest.
A supervisor will issue instructions TO DISCONTINUE THE FOOT PURSUIT if they determine
that the risk to the officers, the subject, or the public outweigh the need to apprehend the subject.
Terminate EVERYTHING !!!

Its beyond me why this guy was shot.....
I see where officers are saying how do you have people with 2 years on training new officer's, well for one the veterans don't want to train or work with pop's, seems some people fail to remember when they were pop's and how they learned. When I started in 007 I had 3 great frog's who I own my entire career to.When it was my turn to be the officer riding with a pop I attended to give them the same training and excitement my fto' provided me each and every day. I can recall my probation pending and them giving me a new guy to ride with because that's how things were in 007, next thing you know I have a double homicide with 2 crime scenes. Years later when the trial was about to start and the state gave me a report to look over I read it and said who wrote this shit!! It was me smdh. Anyway I am happy to know that most of my pop's that I trained are detectives and few sergeants. I like to think that I did something right by them just like was given to me. Once a Ranger always a Ranger..
Let's think about this, 16 shots can't compare to 2 shots, jumping out of a squad car and unloading within 2 seconds after not even struggling with a offender can't compare to using g taser's, pepper spray ect to firing 16x.

You conveniently failed to mention that La Quan was armed with a knife and had already showed a willingness to use it. From the radio traffic, Van Dyke knew same before encountering La Quan and knew a physical attempt to over power La Quan was already not an option because of the knife. Also, even if a taser had been available it most likely would have been ineffective because La Quan was hopped up on drugs. Plus, a winter jacket can eadily defeat a taser.
There were only two options; let La Quan continue on which would put other officers and citizens in jeopardy or stop him with deadly force.
What if Van Dyke had only fired twice, but one or both caused La Quan to expire? Would you have still wanted Van Dyke charged, tried and convicted?

The picture's were hilarious some of the comments were funny also, the double standard jokes were stupid. The sad part about some of you alls comments is that I can admit the shooting by the female officer was bad,and very poor training ect. But some of you only see color and regardless of if it is suppose to be blue. Only a few more month's until retirement and I honestly can't wait to leave this department, I was very wrong when I thought this department would be like the military and like a family. It's still 1960s CHICAGO. So sad!!!

Agreed, but please know not every White Officer on this job sees it that way. I hope to God the worst thing that happens to her is that she loses her job, not go to jail for a mistake made in a tense moment.
I am reading some of these comments and I have to ask myself are these really police officer's, are these the same people that are suppose to have each others backs, are these the same chicago police officers who smile in your face every day and the call you and your family nasty names. WOW, back in 1983 I joined the Marine's, there were people of all races, my best friend was a guy from broken arrow Oklahoma who said he never had a black friend in his life. The Marine Corps teaches you that there is no color but green, because when shit hits the fan all we have is each other, when you are out there on watch for 12 or 13hrs there is no complaining, there is not bugging the zone for a lunch or crying about having to stand for 2 or 3 hrs, I recall being on a post standing in a empty hallway for 10 hours in my dress blues because President Bush was in Brussels for a presidential visit and trust me pay back then was crap. Yet I always shake my head when I hear officers bitching and moaning about nothing but making dam good money. When I joined the Police Department in was looking for something to replace my life of being a Marine, I have been pretty much disappointed from day 10 of the academy when I saw it's all about who you know and where you grew up at. Yes this department is actually a joke and I pray these last few months go by quickly as my retirement comes close.I celebrate the Marine Corp Birthday every year and still bleed Marine Corp blood, there is nothing I want to actually remember about being a Chicago Police officer

Nope.. original order came out in 2018. It has just been UPDATED and is now in your e-learning.
Now it clearly states a sergeant can call it off and must response to the foot shit show.
