These two officers had their hands full trying to subdue this maniac. He was tased and maced. He still managed to get to the escalator leading to the street. I saw a headline that said Beck was requesting the CCSAO to drop the charges. Gotta love that. If you watch the video, and the offender was going from train to train, car to car...whatever he did, it was enough to stop him. He then resisted the arrest, and obviously didn’t comply at all. You see the male officer trying to control this guy, who is not allowing the officer to cuff him. That’s a crime. As for the two shots...I’m not going to comment on that part of it. Not my place. As stated in the topic though, it didn’t look good. BUT, everything before it shows a guy resisting, and he got away with it (sans two extra holes in him). Larry wants us to be more proactive. Advice for the two officers. Move back home if possible or get an apartment. Save every dollar possible and keep it out of the bank. Think of other employment for the future. Consider a small business in someone elses name. Relocate to another state. Keep collecting your paycheck and save while waiting for this to end. Stay strong and exercise everyday. Remember it is only a job and not the end of everything. Don’t start self medicating. Don’t even think of starting to consume alcohol, don’t make your troubles worse by get in more trouble. Don’t look back and dwell on what happened. Focus on the future and put all your time and energy into that. Get involved in your religion. You are most likely going to have to start your life over. Just try to get as many checks as possible from here to build savings. Seek out counseling if needed. Keep friends and family in your life. Stay strong! After this all is over you will wish you never choose this job! No matter what the outcome is.

I read that these officers had a little over two years on the job. I thought “Becker the Pecker“ said he’s putting the best officers in the Cta detail ie SWAT.
So our boss says everything this asshole did before being shot is ok. We all know these cops were probably told to enforce every violation on the CTA. Newer officers reversed into this shitty detail and told activity, activity more activity. Straight from the Mayor and Superintendent, they want activity on the CTA! Garner) under color of law and the feds can come after you, if they choose. Because it has been settled law since 1985 it is very hard to claim qualified immunity. Will they bother? Probably not, but they could, even if the state doesn't (and let's not pretend race doesn't factor in) .
Failing to arrest someone is not, in and of itself, grounds for shooting them. Two careers in the toilet over some guy running between trains. Maybe two lives. Would the city have fallen into chaos if, worst case, this guy had gotten away? If it was the choice between that and shooting him, I bet they wish they had picked the first. And if those weren't the only two options, WTF are you doing shooting him...

This video just showed the whole world how incompetent some of us are at this job and the piss-poor training we get. The department would rather have us do hours of training on transgenders and political correctness training rather than train us on tactics or requiring us to stay in shape! Dropping the charges makes sense for two reasons.
1. Public relations-The public aren't going to see this as a justified shooting.
2. Trying to limit damages if it goes to a civil trial. Why enrage the jury.
3. Ok I lied there's a third reason. No way does city want these two cops on the stand.

I get what you're saying but there were two of them, only one fighting. The other just standing there watching her partner. Tell her to jump in and earn her money. Women are equal to men I hear so jump in lady, you wanted to wear the uniform. But the civilian is suppose to jump in as she stands and watches? Get out of the way lady, I'm doing your job now. And who's to say what kind of shape he is in either. Ever think of that?
So you try to help and either get shot by the short female copper for interfering (I wouldn't have been at all surprised, she is a joke) or be sued by the victim for helping out. In this case, No thanks. No one will be backing you when it all goes south as it did and then you would be part of the mess too. Think about that for a second.
They screwed up, but this ultimately should fall on the folks that hired them and those that trained them and passed them as ready to work the streets. The training is this, all the law-abiding citizens observed passing by the officers during the struggle, were indifferent and continued on their way.The disregard by the Joe Citizen to assist occurred prior to the shooting. How can anyone with a good moral compass not think to stop and lend a hand. Clearly it was well known these were two uniformed officers in need of assistance. The same is true for those recording the incident. The thoughtless act to assist is expected from members of lawless communities, This however, is river north. I may be wrong but I did hear that the FBI was called in so that their tech unit could enhance the audio and visual recordings to better determine exactly what was happening. In a real investigation that would be done and I don't have a problem with that. But I don't know how true that rumor is. Any dics out there have any info?

I agree with your assessment of the useless guy making the video, but the officer didn't have to use her firearm. What appeared to be an unarmed man, suffering the effects of pepper spray, stood in front of her, while dipshit #1 fiddled with his cuffs. She then CHOSE to shoot this guy, because she didn't like any of the other options. Not once did either officer make any effort to strike this offender. No asp or baton of any kind was used. Failed taser deployment, failed wrestling match, relatively ineffective pepper spray, and then she just shoots him while he's standing there rubbing his eyes, and her partner plays with his handcuffs after telling her to shoot him seconds before that. The only thing she HAD TO do was help her partner. She chose to bend over and do NOTHING to help. Then he runs up the escalator and she shoots up at him. I'm assuming he didn't point a gun at her, since he was RWOC. So why did she shoot him while he was running up the escalator? Because she's a confused moron who shouldn't be the police, and likely won't after this. If the useless citizens had helped take this guy into custody, he probably would have never been shot or even injured. And if the officers dealing with him weren't complete fuckups, he wouldn't have been shot. When trying to take an active resister into custody, you don't just grab a wrist and hope for the best while he keeps trying to break free. You have to do something more. Maybe an offender will get tired or just give up, but that wasn't this guy's plan. He needed to be punched, kneed, kicked, hit with a baton, etc. But none of that occurred. While one officer wrestled with him, the other could have done any of those things to help, but she chose to do absolutely nothing... up until she decided to get as deeply involved as possible by shooting him. I saw nothing that justified either shot, but maybe there are other angles that show him casting a magic spell or something.

Dropping the charges essentially says the aggressive assailant was seriously impacted by the uniformed antagonists (i.e. shot for no reason) and civil rights were violated because the city decides two days later to flip-flop on its stance to quell public transportation crime.

That's some really terrible advice there Sparky. In a situation like that any random person rushing up has to be considered a threat to the officer and probably would have been shot themselves. There have been cases where off duty POs have gotten hurt by trying to help in similar situations.

If she can’t articulate her reasons for shooting, she’s clearly in trouble. Retired now and several times when both active and retired I have assisted po’s during an arrest while they were fighting with a suspect. As I approached I said I’m an off duty CPD or a retired CPD. No problem, each said thanks for the help. Never took more than an instant for them to know what side I was on

Advice for the two officers. Move back home if possible or get an apartment. Save every dollar possible and keep it out of the bank. Think of other employment for the future. Consider a small business in someone elses name. Relocate to another state. Keep collecting your paycheck and save while waiting for this to end. Stay strong and exercise everyday. Remember it is only a job and not the end of everything. Don’t start self medicating. Don’t even think of starting to consume alcohol, don’t make your troubles worse by get in more trouble. Don’t look back and dwell on what happened. Focus on the future and put all your time and energy into that. Get involved in your religion. You are most likely going to have to start your life over. Just try to get as many checks as possible from here to build savings. Seek out counseling if needed. Keep friends and family in your life. Stay strong! This was Car Hoping, an Ordinance violation, until he resisted arrest, then it became a misdemeanor, even after the shooting, he was searched incident to arrest and with the narcotics found, it became a felony. But hey look at how people normally react to other folks getting beat up or when there is an accident. One guy jumped in to help when a lady fainted and fell into the pit in the NY subway. One guy jumped in, the rest stood there with their phones out recording or just played stoic zombie. This is nothing new people don't like to get involved, whether another citizen or a cop. This was an odd case too because the female was standing there behind the action doing nothing at all really. Seeming afraid to jump in and help. So what would a citizen have done in that scenario. I would bet if a citizen had asked her can I help she would have painted the air blue and told him to go on his way. But I agree proactive policing is dead or should be but there will always be those that don't listen and don't learn. Now if they can spy on you and turn on the cam or mic at will what's next? Invasive monitoring, get used to it. Will we all end up like Number 6 from the Prisoner TV series.

YES! You are absolutely correct. This is what they should be telling every new copper. They watch to much TV with the stop resisting shit, say it once then hit them hard and fast and as much as possible until they are in custody.

I am genuinely surprised nobody called out the physical fitness of the officers! They need to lose weight! Too fat to run after a perp and too weak to take him down! These officers are not our smartest and they clearly don't make up for it in physical capacity. The two goons here can't sprint 20 yards without reaching for a snack and screaming "shoot him". I hope the rest of you are running a few miles a week and lifting a barbells often. Stay fit for your health and for the health and well-being of our citizens.

These two officers are a clear indication of the following:
Failure of the hiring process.
Failure of the academy training.
Failure of the force mitigation training.
Failure of the procedural justice training.
Failure of the deascalation training.
Failure of the FTO Program.
Failure of supervision.
And finally a complete and utter failure of ownership, responsibility and leadership.
The rest is on the officers
Simplicity of it is that their supervisors, who also have no real experience, allowed these 2 year workers to work together. Both have no experience. Why does the department keep allowing this?

Exactly, if your mouth is going, it is harder to concentrate on what your hands and feet should be doing.
