Each day one checkpoint will be established within your District. The time, and location will be determined in concert with your Area Deputy Chief. Please provide the locations to the Office of Operations by 1500 hrs today. Please consider the 2020 Summer Plan corridors in this process. Further Information regarding the Road Side Safety and Informational Checkpoints will be forthcoming.

DUI's are seen as possible threat to life and limb because you have some dingus driving a 3000lb missile that is loaded. If you think for one second that these checkpoints are merely to make the public aware of information that is on nearly every news outlet known to man, then you as well are a dingus. You will have bosses using this as a tool to get drugs and guns through random stops. I repeat these stops are unlawful. If you are the copper who stops someone using this and makes an arrest, well I hope you have a rainy day fund set up. To all active CPD street police in the districts this is an apology in advance. I'm retired from CPD. In retirement I take care of elderly relatives. I try to be cautious to minimize the chance of exposure to this virus and passing it to another, especially someone who is elderly. That being said, if I'm flagged to pull over for an "informational check point" I will not be rolling down my window. No disrespect intended. Just trying to protect myself, you and anyone I come into contact with after this seemingly illegal stop. When I ask the purpose of this stop and I'm told it's to tell me all about the virus, a subject that has been on the news and social media for 24 hour a day for what seems like forever, I will say thank you, good bye and drive away. If things go beyond that I can promise that I will be filling a lawsuit against the city and the dept. And the punitive damages I will be seeking will eat into a deputy chief's pay check and pension something awful. Rember you can and are expected to refuse to obey an unlawful order.
