OEMC Shortages

Unfortunately, the vast majority of people calling off sick aren't actually sick - 100% guarantee the media won't touch that one. But OEMC has been reduced to doubling up radio zones:
  • 019 is now sharing a zone with 020 and 024
  • 002 is now working with 003
No idea if having three Districts on one channel is safe - leave comments below - but after closing a few Districts, it was always amusing that OEMC never shuttered a dispatching position. Politics at play instead of safety and efficiency we suppose.

I remember throughout the years my team/unit /detail often would have multiple zones on while operating in other or boardering zones to be cognizant of surrounding activity. Also, some districts operated that way, and with a majority of persons "quarantined" theoretically there should be less trafic, kess crime

And appointing politically connected PO David Ramos to an executive position at OEMC is another example of waste and inefficiency. Maybe Dave can sit at a zone console and earn his inflated salary.

Blame Daley for giving OEMC to Cortez and Donne Trotter
and the rest of the make believe clergy who turned it
into a municipal rest haven for their cop hating

Not because of shortages. 19,20,24 are going to be the same zone now. CPD wants it to help with responses to all the robberies and carjackings. A major excuse at compstat meetings is that many of the carjackings are happening in 019 or 020 and then that same car is used several minutes later for robberies in these neighboring districts without the neighboring district even knowing. By the time the robberies and carjackings already happen the car is gone and the neighboring district is too late. The same thing is for 002 and 003. Both have their own zone and many of the robberies in the area around university of Chicago originate in 002. Most of the university of Chicago is in 002 but some of it is in 003 so it’s the same problem that 19,20,24 is facing with response times and multiple robberies across district lines within minutes.

I was told they were practicing combining zones in case of a shortage of dispatchers. Actually training for something instead of waiting till it goes to shit and scrambling to catch up. someone being proactive for once and that’s good.

Little bit of a technical problem - no receive sites on those frequencies in the added on districts. Your radios won’t get through...

Zone 11 guy here...the air is cluttered with transmissions, so yes it's definitely a safety issue. I know some suburbs have two and three departments that share one frequency, however those departments have like 40 members not over 200 members. The media only covers what's on their agenda.

If this is a permit switch to have 019, 020 and 024 on one zone. 024 needs to shut the f@ck up. No other district can talk because they talk so much on the radio.

Absenteeism isn’t new at City departments but The Covid’s is an good excuse.
It’s also not the first time OEMC went into these console bypasses either. If anyone ever done a walk through at the Center there’s many many unused unattended consoles, somewhere there’s probably many many more hidden from view.
If there’s dire conditions at OEMC - why isn’t anyone complaining ?

This conspiracy theorist thinks it’s not Covid’s, but that the antiquated OEMC equipment is broken again on a wide scale by neglecting to upgrade, maintain, paying the bills and Motorola, it’s techs, it’s parts distribution, it’s Chinese suppliers are all closed, locked down and shuttered.
Money collected from exorbitant surcharges on monthly cellphone bills and that money was spent...on what?

Calls will have to be routed to an more effective, third party call center hub in southern Asia.
Please hold for the next available operator. Para espanol, marque uno.
We are experiencing high call volumes due to covid pandemics and Trump lallygagging.

Hahaha, less teachers? That will be the day. The CTU got put into their new five year deal, that lightfoot cannot close any schools and any laid off teacher still gets 80 percent of their salary. Nice work if you can get it which is basically what they have now. They are doing NOTHING right now and getting paid 100 percent of their salary. Oh, and they get a day off tomorrow for teacher improvement. If Covid 19 doesn't bankrupt the city then the CTU will make sure of it

OEMC isn’t a germ fest. It’s clean. The building does take precautions. It’s cleaner than I ever seen it. The FMLA abuse and Lay Ups always been a thing there because “the church peoples”. Fire Side of OEMC doesn’t have any problems of that nature. None. Smooth operation. Guess why.
The OT, sick time FMLA abuse is just more prevalent now because “the church peoples” are taking advantage of this pandemic completely hamming it up. Police operations is a sanctuary for cop haters who detest law and order. Sympathizers. Intel leakers and... thots.

Off topic. Why do I have a feeling the answer is SILENCE/ NOTHING. Come on News Media/journalists this is your opportunity to save our city. Thanks, a property owner and taxpayer who loves Chicago.

Old retired guy Yes I worked there as a cadet. It was ALL Police Officers and cadets no civilians on the floor later they added zones and took some of the third floor too.. For its day it was advanced technology But the key was Police Officers doing the job not Police haters
New supt take control back of OEMC It is a perfect spot for light duty and retired Police Officers.

Been at OEMC 25 years. It's not clean and all the medical abusers are using this as an excuse to be off work with no consequences. That's why zones are combined (which is a terrible idea if you ask me). It's all 3rd watch.

In the 60's when there were only 8 zones. Zone 6 handled 8-9-the south end of 10 and the West end of 7. An almost impossible task for the Dispatchers.

Zone 13 on 2nd watch has good dispatches with the exception on one. The one female who is normally on the zone is GREAT, love her. Don’t really know her name. There is another one is is also good but she constantly take to herself when dispatching and constantly keeps her key open way too long and all you hear is her typing.. still a good dispatcher though and nice. The third.. she’s a female and not on as much. She pops on here and there for a half hour or so sometimes longer. She’s absolutely condescending and has zero personal skills. Every transmission that a copper has she gives her response of , ughhh, ok in a bitchy attitude. She’s snippy and shrinks she knows better of what the police and supervisors should be doing on the street. Do yourself a favor, when the police say they are doing something you don’t need to question it, just type it and show it on your board and STFU. You are not on the street and you don’t know how we do things on the street. If you want to inquire about something that’s fine but be professional and learn some interpersonal skills. We have no problem answering your question but be professional and not a B*tch.

Hey chuckles the 1990’s 30-year wonder boy...lemme tell you a thing or two!
I recall getting assignments, as many a two a tour by Morse code over at the barbershop when I lost my call box key in the tavern.
It was rough.
Is it true, I heard you guys got transistor two-way radios in your cars now?

Guidice is a good guy. He helped me when it was needed without knowing me or me asking him for help. From what I have seen, he treats everyone respectfully and he helps coppers and smoke-eaters and the dispatch people whenever possible. It seems you have a grudge against him. You should blow it out your ass.

The police call taker who died had a list of comorbidites. Bad diabetes hence the amputated legs. Signs he didn’t control his blood sugar or take care of himself. He died of sepsis but these days you can fall out of a plane and land on your head and the coroner will label it “Corona virus” to further the fake agenda. Strange how fire operations doesn’t have a fraction of the problems police side does. Take a guess why.

75% of the police side are FMLA abusers. Its a joke, as soon as OEMC had their 1st person test positive none of them showed their faces. Alot of them still haven't and its been a month! These are the same people who every week turn their 6 day work week into a 3 day work week, they work doubles the 3 days their are there so they have time to call off their other 3 days! If you havent heard your dispatcher in awhile they most likely are one of them! As for the combining of the zones, its due to man power, its temporary and should not be a safety issue. Zone 11, Zone 6, and Zone 8 get triple the amount of calls then 020,024, and 019 get combined, and they do just fine. If people feel its a safety issue then the officers need to stop tying up the air with non sense. Acknowledge a job, code a job, ask for lunch/personals, nobody needs a 5 min explanation as to what happened at your job!

Had a beat car at Wilson and Broadway in the late 60’s. Zone 1 went 24/7 with the hillbillies, Indians and blacks in that area. As far as the size it went from the lake to Kedzie , Montrose to Howard St , plus north of Howard with an extension into the border of Evanston Most calls in the city. Great dispatchers tho
