Suprise Promotions

As the "emergency" began, all promotional classes were cancelled and the Academy transformed into a poor man's 311/911 center. Most officers returned to their units of assignment for a minute or two, but now we're told that the sergeants-to-be and lieutenants-to-be continued taking on-line instruction. The detectives-to-be did not.

Yesterday, all were sworn into their promoted ranks, so Congratulations to all. These classes were supposed to be straight from the lists - no "merit" - so Well Done to everyone who stuck it out.

But (there's always a "but" around here) here's a question for Department observers:
  • the sergeant-to-lieutenant jump isn't that big a deal....you just supervise more people and learn to delegate to your sergeants
  • officer-to-sergeant is a bigger deal, but we're told that the new sergeants will be doing "hands-on" training for a while, riding with more experienced sergeants. No idea why that wasn't done before, but even if it is, will it be enough? Are these now the Department lab rats for a new method?
Officer-to-detective is the strangest of all of these promotions. They received exactly zero-training aside from the few days before the Academy was shut down. There's a lot of detective work that can be learned on the fly, and any detective you talk to will tell you that. But from a legal and technical standpoint, there's a bunch of book-learning and procedural stuff that has to be taught simply because when you get called to testify, a defense lawyer is going to pick you apart on procedure..and your training.

We worry about this because forty-eight hours ago, the guy sitting next to us was one of these new detectives. Great officer, conscientious individual, good person all around (but on the cheap side when the beer is flowing), but even he's a bit worried about getting hammered at Court and it affecting his career and how he's going to serve the citizens of Chicago (yes, there are some of us who still believe that.)

We're pretty sure he'll be fine...eventually, but is this going to adversely effect the clearance rate that is mired in the low teens for major violent crimes?

They don’t even know how they’re gonna finish training the detectives. Someone I know that made it said they will be getting some sort of elearning plus academy time plus shadowing a detective. So now if you’re in the d unit are you really gonna be excited to be some sort of fto for the new guys on top of the caseloads you already have to work? This has disaster written all over it.

Not really, testifying as a Detective isn't hard if you've ever testified before. Now if you were a dog or a house mouse who never went to even your monthly misdemeanor key call you might have a bit of trouble. If you were a DUI guy or any type of traffic guy you'll be fine.

The reason the current clearance rate is so low is Detectives are very much restricted as to how they can investigate and talk with the public. No going to elaborate but you'll never see high clearance rates ever again, Fugettaboutit. From a former Detective at the old Area 2, 9059 Cottage.

Anybody know the tool working in 016 on 2nd watch who was trying to throw his authority around by harassing a certain gym on the NW side about not being open (their doors are still open but that’s because they are renovating during the shutdown)?

If true, you are a laughingstock and a great example of how not to be the police. Go find some real criminals to bust, you handjob.

I shutter to think about how you might handle yourself on the southside. Not very well I would imagine, which is why you bully honest working folks on the north side to compensate for your glaring inadequacies

Recent past experiences in the art of field training will prove be a disaster. As we all know, low-man gets stuck being the FTO. What happens when someone gets stuck with a merit Sgt, a Part 1 only participant? Or the one that was a lackluster PO and now is a flunky Sgt?
That stuff happens you know. Not sure of the Sgt training process but any new Sgt always seems to find that company man religion.

As for Dets, on the job training works best.
Generally if you were a good, aware, knowledgeable Beat PO you’re already ahead of the game.
There are many who became detached, out of circulation from Patrol and procedure that need some refreshing, but what the training entails is mostly filler nonsense.

The academy Det training was more bullshit and very little hands-on training. All political correctness now with its agenda pushing programs highlighting, grandstanding non-Dept guest speakers. Very little of that 8 weeks or so is useful. It’s gotten worse over the years. What’s the point of inviting the CCSAO when felonies are routinely and systematically denied? Hmmm? DV advocates, crime interrupters and peace initiatives? That’s basic recruit training.
Skip the academy all together or cut it to two weeks of learning Det procedure and protocol - not social justice pitching.

It’s a job and a darn good one. Put up with the bs and collect your chips every 1st & 16th.
Stay safe and remember we were all PO’s once.

Defense Attorney during trial: So Detective, what, if any type of formal, classroom setting Detective training did you receive from the Chicago Police Department?

Detective: I was trained by an experienced detective in the field

Defense Attorney: What kind of training did you receive?

Detective: he trained me how to do things when they came up

Defense Attorney: So what you’re saying is that you never went through the Chicago Police Department Detective training through the Academy??

Detective: No

I have a sibling who is one of the individuals that was promoted to detective yesterday. He has had 10+ years in already, and has been cognizant enough to avoid (where possible) posts / districts where terrible management & bad practices induce un-necessary legal exposure to the individual LEO – 011 for example. So I’m not too worried about him. Remember, the detectives’ that were just promoted attained this designation by actually passing a test, not merit. They should be okay for the most part. It’s also very true that much of the class room training was waived because of the Wuhan flu, and that is regrettable for all the reasons that SCC outlined. What concerns me, and should also concern all of you is this: The appropriate regard & justified contempt you hold for the “young tacti-cool knuckleheads and rapid response rangers running at breakneck speed to no-fucking-where” (4/01/2020 12:47:00 PM) SHOULDN'T apply to these new detectives’. … Looking right at you Dennis Franz lookin’ beef sandwich guy with your tweed sport coat & elbow patches who’s been a detective on the 2nd floor of area 5 since 89’. You have the responsibility to be patient with these new detectives and show them the ropes, which would otherwise be used to hang them in court. If a new detective doesn’t cooperate with your (and I mean genuine) guidance, kick their ass, or make it uncomfortable enough that they change their ways or quit.

Detectives will receive further training and will not report to the Areas until a later date. There are actual certifications for detectives, not for the other ranks. As a veteran detective, I can tell you the training they receive is completely useless. That should surprise no one in CPD. All of their training is basically on the job training with the other detectives. And that should never slow down, you should be constantly asking questions and talking with other detectives. If you’re a motivated officer you can be a good detective quickly, I’ve helped train many of them. This class shouldn’t worry anyone, they will be just fine.

Unfortunately, the sgt academy teaches almost nothing as to how to be a sgt. It’s actually sad. I came out totally unprepared and had no idea what to do. They didn’t even show us or teach us how to fill out a log (something done all day everyday as a sgt). Just shows u they don’t teach u anything that u actually need to know. They parade a bunch of different classs and instructors in front of u, but it’s all really fluff. The stuff you really need to know, they give you no training on. They glanced over how to be a DSS but never let us do anything on a computer. So you have no idea how to approve inventories, arrests, shift change audits, put people on medical etc. Stuff that u need to know and should absolutely know backwards and forwards coming out of a sgt training. It’s horribly run. I learned more from the first 30 mins in a district than the entire month in that stupid sgt academy.

I made sgt and on my first day in a district I was given a CR to investigate. I told the boss I have no idea how to do those and was never taught how to. His Response - figure it out. That was it. That’s historically how bad the training is/has been. I think they’re actually better off skipping the whole academy and just doing a month of riding along with another sgt and sitting up with desk sgt. They’ll learn way more way faster.

Some guys/gals are terrified of court and testifying. You want no gray area. You want every action and paperwork to be spot on. A good lawyer will find the weak spot and tear into you. Good police usually make good detectives. Good police sometimes make bad supervisors. The added responsibility makes them jerks. But, not always.

Will he require those with scores of 70% and above take part two of the Sergeants exam first , only if necessary later allow those with under a 70% to participate in part 2 . Save money and time , CPD has enough Police that scored over 70% to receive promotions until a new test is administered 6 years from now . Those That scored. Under 70% will be waiting , like Captains that receive training but never called for promotion.

Patrol and tat officers that have made arrests and testified over their careers will do ok when testifying. It will be more intensive and usually longer than few minutes. You will need to review the files and your notes before hand. However if you have been involved in few arrests it could be a kick in the teeth. It's always been said that 30 percent of the department do 90 percent of the arrest law with prosecutions. It may be more like 20-25 percent. 80 percen of the top brass rarely ever made arrests and testified in court. That's the meritorious curse! Too many political house mice are now at the top and few of those arrested people and testified in court.

If they hammer you in court just put it on the department. We have no control over training procedures. We do what they tell us to do. It doesn't matter anyway. The defense is gonna hammer you on anything they can think of. And all the lawyers in that court room know each other and run the system together as a network. That's how they keep the money train moving. They take cases in whatever direction they want based on who's owed a favor and who knows who. Everyone gets paid every time an arrest is made. Defense attorney has to be hired, judge assigned and at least one prosecutor assigned. The more these fools are let out on bond and given light sentences the more lawyers get paid. Lawyers know more than anybody that these repeat offenders are eventually gonna get arrested again and when that happens the money train starts again. That's why here we have 20 time convicted felons before they reach age 40. If they were to give stiff sentences to every bad guy there wouldn't be as many court rooms and not as many people would be getting arrested to keep the train moving. The streets would be a lot safer but they only care about money.

So don't get upset when you get hammered in court. If it's a not guilty don't get upset. It's nothing personal. You're just a pawn for the ones who control the system and I don't think they want to part with their beautiful home in Winnetka and their Mercedes. Just make sure you hit the money box on your time due slip and keep moving forward.

Let's be honest, Sergeant training is a joke and the ones who succeed are the ones who have actually done police work on a beat car regularly. Most of the street work and decision making comes naturally with the street experience of being an officer. Logs, TRR's, ticket #'s, DSS work, ect. That's all going to come with hands on experience anyways, not from some half assed instructor reading you powerpoints for a few weeks.

Off Topic:
Here's something that really needs your attention, SCC.
What is the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board going to do about us retirees who have IROCC concealed carry permits? They've already alerted us that they will not be able to re-qualify us for the foreseeable future due to COVID-19 constraints, but if we carry past our current IROCC card's expiration date, we are considered to be carrying concealed in violation of HR-218. So what is the Board going to do? Are they going to automatically send us out new IROCC cards, good for another year? Will they require us to send in our yearly $75./$100. and then ship us out new cards? Because they haven't said a word as to how they intend to deal with this issue. Maybe a little pressure from here will get them off the bench in search of a solution for all of us retirees who earned the right to concealed carry.
And by the way...when is Illinois going to get rid of FOIDs? Because other than raising a ton of money for Springfield, there really isn't much use for them. In states all around Illinois, you can go an purchase firearms and ammo with only your state ID of DL. Time to get that straightened out too!

You seriously have to get off the low teens clearance rate. I know it’s a rarity that you guys don’t know what you’re talking about. Just because the Slum Times and Trib haven’t reported the accurate numbers in years , and then all of a sudden reported them last year, doesn’t mean they were nt always there. EXC clear cases have ALWAYS been part of the clearance rate. The main stream media only concentrated on current year closures. Most of us are still solving the cases from last year, the year before, or 20 years ago. So why shouldn’t those clearances be included in the total number cleared for the year?? I ve been a Detective over 10 years and the clearance rate has always been around 45-50 percent. Just because the media didn’t pay attention or why this Dept didn’t promote it more, who knows. But it’s always been there.

Sorry, but trying to teach any of these tactical cool idiots these days results in zero because their head is constantly buried in their cell phones.. always. Also, if you haven’t noticed that when you try to teach any of these kids anything they have extreme pushback because they are so afraid to admit if they are wrong or that they don’t know anything.. they are all knowing and never wrong, even when they are gravely wrong. It’s something with the younger people today, they don’t know and when you try to teach them or explain something to them in a teachable moment they get offended and defensive that you must be picking on them. I’ve been a homicide detective for 23 years now. I still put in all effort to solve my cases and am not a bitter dog by any means. I enjoy when new detectives come in because we want and need competent detectives to work with and work together on cases with. Over the years and ESPECIALLY in the past four or 5 years with kids and I stress the term KIDS because that how many of them act with 10 years and under act like they have been the police and investigating murders their whole lives and that we are “beef sandwich eating old timers” who COULDNT possibly teach them a thing. It’s severely challenging. It’s odd that when you are explaining how to do something to these young guys they constantly say, “yeah I know” when you are telling them how they did something wrong. No, you DONT know because you did something completely wrong!! If you knew, you wouldn’t have done it the wrong way. There is no problem in saying you don’t know something. I can and will teach slick, they need to be willing to learn from someone who is actually REALLY good at what they do and have been doing for a long time. It’s hard seeing these kids taking selfies with their slicked back hair and sunglasses and shirts and ties just for the look and the online life. They wanna play the part online, not as a police detective. It’s real life with real consequences.

The detective training is needed. Not all of it by any means but certain things are as good as gold. That being the technology training and different platforms you can use for your cases, the various tips and techniques for subpoenas and warrants you can use for cell tower dumps, social media, banks, websites and social media stuff. Also great training was the few case studies they did for real life cases and good investigative techniques that were used to solve the cases. Also good training that is needed is the felony review process where seasoned ASAs came in and went through what is needed to present a case, grand jury a witness or victim and what they state needs from the detectives and what the detectives should expect of the state. Wicklander and Zaliewski is an absolute waste of time along with most of the domestic stuff. Juvy stuff is good training that you need to know along with the writ process, duty judge run process and how to write a supp report and the CHRIS training. That is the stuff they should focus on all the time but they throw in all the other garbage. The detectives should have had all that other training but they won’t. You can learn by shadowing current detectives but what if you get stuck with a Dog?? Then you don’t stand a fighting chance.

To “Sibling”

You’re honestly going to come on this blog and tell seasoned detectives how to treat your adult sibling??

Let me tell you what kind of copper your sibling is....probably the opposite of what they tell you they are.

Here’s some advice from someone who has been a detective for a long time....on your first day in the area, shut your mouth, shake hands, do not drop names, do not tell anyone where you want to work, and no one gives a fuck about what you have done on the job. Everyone is burned out so expect short, to the point conversations. Also, think of making detective as day 1 of a brand new job. Trust me, patrol, tact, gangs, etc. have no idea what a detective does. Think that way and you will be alright. Have an ego and run your mouth like a know it all... No one will want to work with you or show you how to do anything

"I have a sibling who is one of the individuals that was promoted to detective yesterday. If a new detective doesn’t cooperate with your (and I mean genuine) guidance, kick their ass, or make it uncomfortable enough that they change their ways or quit."

4/15/2020 09:14:00 AM

No worries about this, the worry herein is that Detectives HAVE to be accredited by the State Board in that certain hours of training MUST be completed. They never received this training which will be an issue.....they are truly green and this will "legally" be a problem. Let your brother know questions should be asked of the Academy regarding this......trying to help.

And what about social distancing? Now you're sticking two Sgts in the same car during a time when everyone is supposed to be 6 feet apart. This Department is so dumb.

OT to this thread but on the mayors live Covid-19 briefing today she said the city has spent almost 100 million on this pandemic so far. WTF? On what Mayor? As a first responder I’ve only received one PPE kit so far and no mention as to a replacement if I decide to use it. Where’s all the money going????? Here comes the HUGE property tax hike

Where did the money go you ask? I can tell you that JBP is cashing in between UIC hospital, his biomedical research facilities, investments, and sister Penny is in charge of the 30 million in donations to the IL COVID fund. That's just 1 family with their hands in the till. Conflicts of interest.

9:14 am. So true what you say. Years ago I had a ppo, we landed a homicide, area 4. So myself & the recruit are assigned the get everyone's name & button paper. There was one dic who was never too friendly, so I tell the ppo "this guy can be a jagoff but he is the one who needs all the names". The dic looks at me and ends up laughing. Just like the academy, sometimes it's a metal test, they want to see if you have what it takes to do the job. Area 4 had some fantastic detectives, they learned on the street as po's and perfected their skills as detectives and more often than not they were happy to pass on their knowledge to anyone that showed interest. A good blueshirt saved them some work.

OT: Another PO was told by Medical Section to have Dr email Dr’s note and not to worry that it’s HIPPA APPROVED. WTF? Told PO to have M.S. forward this (BS) APPROVAL. Anyone?

Ah yes, cry Hippa aka I’m trying to scam the medical section during this crisis and don’t want to work. You’re getting full pay medical leave by your employer. You’re case workers are POs or civilians who are also all registered nurses who evaluate and follow your medical claims and are now your case worker. They are also bound by the hippa laws and they are free to communicate with doctors and nurses who are diagnosing and treating you as they are REGISTERED health care professionals. That’s why most of the people who work in the medical section in the back of the office who actually handle cases on the day to day basis are also registers nurses or at least have the state registrations, certificates and refunded authorizations to share and receive medical papers from doctors. So if you’re not scamming you have ABSOLUTELY nothing to worry about. Also, with the virus going around they don’t want people sitting down and waiting in line at the medical section. Follow the rules and enjoy your free medical time off. When I was on the medical for a surgery everything I did with the medical section was via scanning documents via email and by phone calls. I had no issue with it since it was a legit injury. Only the scammers freak out when they are bending or breaking the rules or just flat out embellishing their injury or sickness.. and let’s not pretend that doesn’t happen all the time by the same people.

Yes evidently salt truck drivers are “not essential.” Highways were snow and ice at 0600 hours. Stuck on the Kennedy today with a 54 car pile up while the city state or whoever the fuck is in charge of the express lanes deemed it not necessary to switch them from downtown to Ohare last night for the morning rush hour so thousands sat stuck in traffic while no one used the express lanes. These leaders are fucking failures saving pennies and fucking the working man. Time for the revolution.

He would probably make a better detective if he had actually worked some of those districts. I've seen bad detectives who came from busy districts and good ones from slow ones. But generally speaking, the ones that know how to actually do police work are ahead of the game.

10 yrs as PO - 12+ Det’s says;

Congrats Det’s!

Regardless what’s said it’s still the best spot on the job.

Even tho it seems most new Dets want be (that Big City) Homicide Det it’s truly not the best spot to learn the most & quickly. Over the yrs I’ve seen good hard working PO’s quickly become lazy Dets if they land in Homicide. Don’t get me wrong, Seasoned Homicide Dets do work their asses off (especially during warm weather) but they already have a partner or a routine they don’t want interrupted which ultimately means less new kid will learn/does/do.... Just the way it is “kid”.

A little ADVISE -
New Det’s:

Just lay low for a bit & observe how the ships ran.

DON’T be a know it all (Promise ya don’t know or understand 1/2 it)

Do what’s asked of u

Ask other Dets if u can help out

Most importantly after observing a period or two find that one season Det who’s style u like and simply ask them if u can ride/shadow them. A good season Det considers it a compliment and tho they may seem/are grumpy on the outside they’re smile w/in. Also know ur giv’n him/her a renewed sense of love for the game (job).

Lastly.....

MANY THANKS TO MY WELL RESPECTED *NOW RETIRED* SEASONED DET - He taught me to think outside the box, go that extra mile, dot I’s cross T’s, give defense zero wiggle room. Promise it works, 85-90% of my (our) cases the defense attorney knowing they’d lose wld ask for a deal vs going to trail.

Ur closer should read like a short story and be understood, start to finish, by any individual sworn or not who reads it.

Stay Safe!

New Dets. Are going to come to work and be given up to six handouts (cases) at roll call. All have to be answered in 7 days. They will go to their mailbox and find another 6-10 that they are also responsible for following up (7 day requirement again). It is common to find another five reports in your mailbox by the end of your shift. They will have to learn how to review videos (there are plenty), and answer and submit evidence that patrol recovered. Learning how to Suspend a Case is an art in itself. And learning about preparing The Package- the form set for any shooting incident involving a P.O. With supporting paperwork can easily involve 100 pages. You will type it. Congratulation boys and girls. The days of writing some crappy report and never seeing it again are over. Good Luck!

So which is it Rhodes scholar? Do tell... Avoid 011 (like the chicken shit they may be) and avoid "bad practices" or wait around for some detective to "kick their ass" and make them uncomfortable enough to quit?

One thing anyone who spent enough time in 011 and avoided "avoiding places like 011" will tell you...You get more real-life police experience in 1 year then most PO's in the city will see in their career.

If your sibling ACTIVELY avoided busy places like 011, then I'm sure their avoidance of danger, hardwork and the commeraderie that comes only from working in a shit show like 011 will be welcomed in the D unit.

011 has always had people assigned that couldn't wait to get out as soon as possible, then spent the rest of their career bragging how they "worked in 011". Smart money doesn't leave on account of a boss...they come & go, good & bad... Sure 011 is shit, but the PO'S that work there have earned the title of Chicago Police officer, by Traditional standards. If you haven't stayed in 011 for years, by choice, it's nothing to brag about...and neither is avoiding it. Just wait til your sibling gets assigned to A/4, or whatever they're calling it now, They'll be spending plenty of time in 011...unless they avoid that assignment too.

Some advice for a new Det. try to hook up with an old friend in the area who you trust, and get the real facts, and learn how to do things that the books/video learning doesn't tell you about. There will always be an "A" team to contend with. You will have to earn your keep. The statistics will battle you daily. The competition can be intense. The new Dets. will get all the cases with no, clues, no leads, no nothing.
Again....the "A" team and house mice get the known offender cases.....hard to overcome...but you can. Remember, "Today's victim, is tomorrow's offender" run everybody mentioned...you might catch warrants to keep you good on the productivity list. Don't give up...every number counts....you will find that out quickly. It seems overwhelming at first...don't expect a lot of help from other detectives....as the competition can be intense. If you can grab an on view,,,take it..it counts!.
If you can produce, and the "A" team is busy,,, eventually the supervisors "might" send you to some heater cases as everybody wants to look good, especially the supervisors who need results.
I've learned....The number of arrests doesn't count.......unless you don't have any! Be safe, ain't worth dying over!
Good Luck and manage your time well...take good notes....these cases pile up and it gets very confusing.

Not really, testifying as a Detective isn't hard if you've ever testified before. Now if you were a dog or a house mouse who never went to even your monthly misdemeanor key call you might have a bit of trouble. If you were a DUI guy or any type of traffic guy you'll be fine.

4/15/2020 07:28:00 AM

Prophetic words from a genius who has never typed a 3000 to 5000 word felony closer report with interviews of multiple multiple witnesses, multiple videos, ballistics information reports, DNA hit reports, photo line-up reports, canvass reports, progress reports, video recorded offender interviews, Illinois State Police evidence submission reports that have to coincide with your GPRs and so on and so on with an associated timeline of course. So you go right ahead and think that testifying in a DUI case is the same as testifying as the assigned investigator in an agg batt, murders, crim sex assault etc etc. Plan on being on the stand for hours, not minutes.

4/16/2020 01:24:00 AM

not really, testifying as a Detective isn't hard if you've ever testified before.

Totally false. It makes it easier but its not close. Remembering if he dropped it from his left or right hand is not the same. At least a hour on the stand each time and you will have to explain the course of the investigation and reasons why things were done or not. Real Detectives know this and have to be prepared for any and all questions about the investigation and any Bullshit theory the Defense can dream up.

Please all new Detectives find a seasoned Det that has Common and sound court sense to help and mentor you. Hopefully you also get a good Sgt who can guide you. The vast majority of the Sgts that are coming, were previously Detectives.

Take you time to get it right and work your investigation. Congratulations.

Save money and time , CPD has enough Police that scored over 70% to receive promotions until a new test is administered 6 years from now . Those That scored. Under 70% will be waiting , like Captains that receive training but never called for promotion.

Exactly, part 2 is nowhere in the near future. CPD has enough candidates that scored above 70% to receive promotions until the new test. Candidates who scored under 70% should not be considered.

One of those new Detectives isn’t allowed to make arrests or testify in court so it’s perfect for him.

All promotional training conducted by our department sucks. It's never been good. I was hired in 1981 and promoted 3x. Always taught by CPD members who love to hear themselves talk and they don't know what the hell they are talking about.

Common sense, integrity, and half a brain is all anyone needs to be good in any CPD assignment.

4/16/2020 02:19:00 AM

Say thank you to your Chinaman, oh you must have, you got promoted 3x......

Detectives need a certain amount of training per state standards.

4/15/2020 07:08:00 AM

You are correct, but this is Illinois, Cook County and Chicago, State standards are normally not followed.

Refresh my fading memory please, but aren't all Illinois Retired LEO's in goo d standing allowed to carry in Illinois without IROCC? Isn't IROCC for national carry? So if you're not going out of state, and who is, your button is good enough. Are you saying you won't carry because of an expired irocc card. Yeah, sure

4/15/2020 06:48:00 PM
No you need IROCC to carry which means you have to qualify once a year.

"Prophetic words from a genius who has never typed a 3000 to 5000 word felony closer report with interviews of multiple multiple witnesses, multiple videos, ballistics information reports, DNA hit reports, photo line-up reports, canvass reports, progress reports, video recorded offender interviews, Illinois State Police evidence submission reports that have to coincide with your GPRs and so on and so on with an associated timeline of course. So you go right ahead and think that testifying in a DUI case is the same as testifying as the assigned investigator in an agg batt, murders, crim sex assault etc etc. Plan on being on the stand for hours, not minutes."

Ughhhh!! Sounds like a Nightmare! Thanks for reminding me why I stopped taking tests years ago. No thanks. You can keep all those headaches for the extra pay. Not worth wasting my life over all that.

Hate to break it to you nitwits bragging about how those who scored 70% or above on Part 1 of the last Sgt’s exam should be put in rank order for the next promotional list. There’s a ZERO chance that will happen and an even stronger possibility that the department doesn’t even offer the second part until 2021 with everything that’s going on with the ‘Rona. So quit your whining and understand the old list is staying up for quite a while and will be in play for the time being. It’s not a priority to keep spending city money on administering a new test. FYI, doing well on the 1st part isn’t something you should be bragging about, either. It’s Pass/Fail...jeez!

Years ago most of us here were working in whatever shithole your working at now and treated like shit by the hood and did actual police work not pussy contact blue card non sense. So because we have a intelligent and respectful community we should brush off what little respect that’s left for us in this profession, if cheese cake or pizza pisses you off then go get a new job or eat your gun. Better not waste your Trump check all in one place, go work at Target when the lock down is over with that fancy degree mommy and daddy paid for working they’re asses off, have you gotten them cheese cake lately?. Ungrateful bastard!

Maybe I’m just old school and have to get with the times. I’m great full that 016 Dist is getting to eat great but there is no need to post every meal on social media letting everyone know what you are eating. especially during these times. When people are finding very difficult time to even put food on the table. Then you have guys in 016 who can barley button there pant button going up for seconds with a plate already full.

The department chose to dump people from area south to area four regardless of seniority. I’m looking forward to that check. Cha-Ching!

4/16/2020 12:26:00 AM

Not really. The guys with less time on than you who were kept in area 2 were kept on management. Don’t be angry that you got bounced because you are a do nothing. 20 percent management was posted when this whole thing started. Also, the union can’t grieve it because the union took part in the negotiation for the rules of this superbid. Remember that??? The union came out with the department that they came to an agreement with the department after several meetings. Hate to tell ya, but if the management was agreed to by the department and your representation then you don’t have a leg to stand on. The union can’t fight something they agreed on paper to. They agreed to 80 percent bid and 20 percent management and that’s what happened. Younger better detectives were kept on management spots and guys with more time on than them didn’t get the bid. Sorry, it’s the same thing on the watch. 2 and 3 year dollies pushing guys with 12-13 years off a 2nd watch bid forcing them to miss it. Can’t beef, it’s union agreed and in our contract. In the case of the superbid it was agreed and signed on paper in a memorandum of understanding which is as good as being in the contract. Sorry, but get some time on the job slick.

So most of you could walk in off the beat car and do a DICKS JOB without training?

None of you could process a juvenile.

What happens with DNA?

Where do those nifty shell casing go and what happens next? you know the one the ET grabbed up for you?

How do you not do a photo spread and its not showing piks from your department phone?

Can your SGT tell you to change an official report when you submit it?

Does IAD order you to investigate another officer?

Where do you go to search the contents of a cell phone?

How do i get a stolen bike out of a Dupage county pawn shop?
Just like most DICKs couldnt do a DUI the training is needed...

What a joke how about say no thankyou Eli cheesecake and donate it to someone who isn’t getting the type of meals you are guys are getting everyday.

4/15/2020 10:55:00 AM

There is no way you are a cop! If you are I feel sorry for those who have to work with you. One of the only pleasures left on the job is when a citizen/restaurant/store owner recognizes your service with some kind gesture. Cops on the street now are faced with unbelievable challenges not only from a law enforcement perspective but also from this pandemic. Get over it that you aren't smart enough or have enough time on the job to work in an area where the police are still appreciated.

So which is it Rhodes scholar? Do tell... Avoid 011 (like the chicken shit they may be) and avoid "bad practices" or wait around for some detective to "kick their ass" and make them uncomfortable enough to quit?

So do you usually take a dash pride on your I'm-a-hero sandwich, or do you just take it plain on a platter-myself-on-the-back. You are a number, a cog, a statistic, just like the rest of us. And you should know, no matter how important you think you are, just remember in 100 years, no one will remember your name, just like the rest of us. And when you figure that out, maybe you can enjoy the short life we have and not spend so much time trying to right the wrongs of high school by comparing your work experiences with everyone else's.

Haha...In order...

- No desire to ever do that.

- Don't care.

- Don't care.

- Don't use a dept. phone.

- Not changing reports.

- Glad I'll never be in that position.

- No desire to search phones.

- Really? CPD detectives recovering stolen bikes from pawn shops?? Wasting manpower on that BS?

Hearing all these dicks explaining everything they have to do, Hours- long court testimonies, tracking down uncooperative witnesses, Bosses breathing down your back over case loads... Reaffirms my choices to never take that test. No thanks. The bump in pay is not worth all that extra work! I'll stick to telling pookie to take a walk & come back in a few hours. Rolling into checkoff on time, heading home to enjoy life outside this job. I've heard in the D unit they treat you "like an adult" well... you get treated how you let them treat you. Good & bad bosses are everywhere & they come and go.

Dear douchebag who is complaining about promoting sergeants with a part 1 test score of over 70%, You have motivated me, who took the test for shits and giggles and am moving on to part 2 with a passing score of 54%, to now buckle down and study my ass off just so I can identify you by the whimper in you voice and tears in your eyes when I hear you call me sergeant. How did that Bernstein class work out for you, snowflake?

If you’re on the stand for hours, you’ve done something wrong. You likely did too many gprs and they’re getting you on all the little discrepancies. Reports should be short and simple. It’s not rocket science
