Tax revenues are at all time lows, not just nationally, but at the state, county and municipal levels. But that isn't stopping Fatass from planning to spend more money that he doesn't have:
- Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker proposed a massive $80 million program Friday to hire “an army” of nearly 4,000 state workers to track anyone who came into contact with people who test positive for COVID-19.
Modeled after a similar and likely smaller program employed in Massachusetts, the so-called contact tracing program is regarded as necessary to reopen parts of Illinois once the governor pulls back on his stay-at-home order, which began a 30-day extension on Friday.
“In order to safely move back toward normalcy, Illinois, the United States, and frankly the whole world must contact trace on a never-before-seen scale,” Pritzker said during his daily COVID-19 briefing, which has taken place for 57 straight days.

- Mayor Lori Lightfoot said Tuesday she expects a “whole new class of jobs that didn’t exist before” to be created by the need to reassure people it’s safe to begin congregating in public again.
From mandatory temperature checks to contact tracing, Lightfoot said Chicagoans who have lost jobs during the coronavirus pandemic could find new ones when the twice-extended stay-at-home order is finally lifted.
“There are going to be a whole new class of jobs that didn’t exist before that are gonna be coming out of our thoughts about what recovery and opening up the city looks like,” the mayor said.
In other words, increase the size of government intrusion into everyone's life....and pocketbooks.
Contact tracing is useful when dealing with a disease that is killing people rapidly at high percentages (Ebola, hemorrhagic fevers, etc).
This coronavirus is something that everyone is going to catch at some point and (mostly) recover from. Isolating populations merely delays the inevitable herd-immunity that mitigates the effects on the population over time. Contact tracing is completely useless in this situation and is just a political ploy to increase government budgets.

Once upon a time, contact tracing was a standard public health tool for dealing with diseases like TB and VD. That is why you needed a blood test to get married in most jurisdictions.
But liberals felt that telling the people, that the liberals had infected, who infected them was mean and eventually liberal bureaucrats ended the practice.

Step one, interview the victim.. er patient. Reconstruct their movements and contacts over the last 14 days, call everyone on the list and inform them of their possible exposure. How long does that take? one day? two? Let's give them five days to complete the interview and make 20-100 phone calls. That is 50 cases a year each, with 4,000 tracers this totals to 200,000 cases a year.
How long will this effort (and these jobs) last? One Year? Two max.
So Jabba's plan is to build a 4,000 seat call center, hire and train 4,000 SJW's to do interviews and make phone calls, and then fire the whole bunch in 24 months?

Well, I have not read or heard anywhere that " everyone" will get this virus, but I did read that 50-75% of us will contact it. With the effect that it has on seniors and compromised people, what I have read about how painful it is, I would hope that better treatments are found before that happens.Until then, reasonable social distancing , masks when needed and sanitation should be used. If you catch a bad case of it the next stop is the cemetery. Nothing to fool around with.

Contact tracing is used in the really early stages of an epidemic to shut down little fires before they become big ones. But once you have widespread community transmission that horse is out of the barn. At this point we need to pursue mitigation strategies (wearing masks, etc) to slow down transmission and keep hospitals from being overwhelmed. But otherwise most things need to reopen.

There is some pretty good evidence from places like south korea that aggressive testing, tracing, and tracking, along with hygiene and distancing measures actually reduces deaths pretty substantially.
Initially it was kind of assumed it was just delaying the inevitable but it appears like it actually works pretty well.
