- Mayor Lori Lightfoot on Wednesday accused Ald. Ray Lopez (15th) of “illegally” taping her May 31 phone call with aldermen upset about looting and mayhem in their wards and “leaking” the part that included a profane exchange between them.
The mayor never mentioned Lopez by name, but her comments made it clear he was the one being accused. Lopez (15th), Lightfoot’s most outspoken critic on the City Council, denied the accusation.
However, he said the mayor’s own staff also records the calls with aldermen. He demanded they release those recordings to the public, arguing the calls violate the Open Meetings Act.
The Illinois attorney general’s office said it has received a complaint about the alleged violation, and is looking into it.
Aldercreature Ray (Skycap) Lopez has obviously been consulting with some political operatives, bringing up the Open Meetings Act. That's a genius move and Ray isn't really in that category. Don't expect Kwame to make any moves against the sitting mayor though. It's also obvious that Ray is positioning himself to be a uniting face of the often fractured Hispanic vote, probably to make sure Mendoza doesn't gain any traction.

You should really listen to the full tape. What's interesting is that a bunch of African American aldermen speak. None of them mention George Floyd or the need to protest. They all focus on the looting and violence. Lightfoot uses the hallowed Chicago euphemism South and West sides to describe where the looting is taking place. She repeatedly says that people in these areas are lawless, and no one contradicts her or says she's being unfair.
Ald. Burnett says that his concern is that when it's over, the violent young people in his area may no longer fear the police.
The truly interesting thing is that they speak this way in private, when they don't realize their constituents may hear them. If they led, by speaking this way in public, the conversation about police and violence would chance.

Tonight my wife goes to the Hallmark cable tv channel to watch a program but the program she wanted to watch was preempted by Oprah Winfrey in a program hosted by her called, “Where do we go from here”. Seeing that her show was preempted she turned on the Home & Garden channel. Guess what. The show that was supposed to be on was also preempted by “Where do we go from here”. Oprah was speaking to black leaders about the racism and police brutality. We probably saw less than two minutes before becoming annoyed. One of the leaders started speaking about how they have to control the vote in 13 southern states for the election. That’s when we shut it off.
I looked up Opah Winfrey, who is worth 2.6 billion, and found out she has her own, called OWN, tv network. Now she can say or host whatever she wants on her network. But I resent the fact that she is allowed to preempt other cable channels on Comcast especially since I am paying for those cable channels. I am so tired of listening to these race baiters pushing systemic racism and police brutality propaganda. You can’t get away from this brainwashing.

Let’s say the roles were reversed and a CPD Officer, say a Deputy Chief, or CAPS officer was recorded by an alderman during a conference call with said alderman where there was a heated exchange with profanity?
She would be calling for that officer to be stripped and fired for being disrespectful of a citizen and want the officer held to a higher standard, why isn’t she held to the same standards that she expects her employees held to?
If that happened you know darn well she wouldn’t be saying the alderman shouldn’t have recorded the call! She would champion them for bringing transparency and want to know why all calls with the public aren’t recorded or why body cameras weren’t activated.

The mayor violated the Illinois Open Meetings Act by not announcing this tele meeting and making it public. But, that said, it cannot be recorded unless all participants agree to this.But, I don't think there will be any prosecution

Not so fast, there is one guy I encounter at work who I just detest. He is sooo freakin phony it just sickens me to breathe the same air as this pos. And that is probably why he is the only person I start spewing profanities as a way to Express myself while speaking with him that saves me from calling him out and telling him what and how I truly feel about occupying the same building space as him
The often used comparisons to 1968-1970 Detroit and todays Chicago are truly apples and oranges.The geography,demographics,and several other variables are not close to being comparable.A simple drone flight via Google over Detroit will show you that.There was a myriad of factors in play that shoved Detroit into Bankruptcy that do not exist in Chicago.When you reside on a neighborhood block where only 3 homes are occupied and you receive no city services ,as many Detroit residents do,you will understand the meaning of Bankruptcy.And that occurs in every neighborhood of Detroit.They really do not have any defined neighborhoods as Chicago does.Its just termed East or West side and if your block is over 50% occupied it is deemed O.K..There are several great articles out there detailing the demise of Detroit and the disaster that it still is today.Mayor Coleman Young did assist and speed things up when he allowed all City workers to move out of that small city.
Chicago has some blocks with 5 or less houses or apartment buildings. There's Englewood, Roseland, Lawndale, Garfield Park and much more, which fit the criteria. So yes, Chicago can be compared to Detroit, at least somewhat. ☹️
