One day after a Cook County judge ignored a recommendation to impose “maximum conditions” on Michael Riddle during a bond court hearing, Riddle was arrested again Thursday — for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend 14 times as she sat on a couch next to her young child.
Judge David Navarro allowed Riddle to get out of jail by posting just $1,000 bond after prosecutors accused him of trying to carjack a woman this week. Navarro made the decision just minutes after the court’s pre-trial services officer advised that “maximum conditions are recommended” for Riddle’s release.
On Thursday night, Riddle watched TV with his girlfriend, the mother of his 5-month-old child, at her home in Grand Crossing. The woman’s three-year-old daughter was also on the couch when Riddle began looking for his phone charger, according to prosecutors.
When the woman told him where the charge was, he allegedly attacked her.
All of this over a phone charger.

The judge, who had been advised to set “maximum conditions” for Riddle minutes earlier, allowed Riddle to go home without electronic monitoring by posting 10% of a $10,000 bail order — $1,000 — Wednesday afternoon.
“I better not see you in front of me on any new cases,” Navarro said as Riddle’s carjacking hearing concluded.

On Saturday, not long after hearing about how Riddle allegedly violated bail by violently stabbing a woman, Navarro heard new allegations of attempted carjacking against a different man in a new case.
Navarro set bail for that man at $10,000, too. He’ll also need just $1,000 to get out of jail.

Not sure what you do with people who have mental issues that make them violent but not really responsible for their bad acts because of mental disorders. Locking them up in a loony bin used to be the answer but we rarely do that anymore, and for the most part that is a good thing.
Locking him up in prison won't get him any mental health treatment worth speaking of. There are drugs that are used to treat the disorder, but they require a lot of medical supervision that is rarely seen in prisons.
There needs to be an honest and open discussion about how to deal with violent people who are not really responsible for their actions, but, as a society, we seem to be afraid to have that discussion.
And the feds were supposed to help out. Carjacking is a federal crime. Let the feds begin prosecuting. BECAUSE it is clear crimesha will not step up. The feds usually keep the violent ones locked up.

My buddy who works at a area five district told me that a sergeant in his district skipped training two times. If more bosses did this for health risk the training would go away! But most are sheep and to afraid and only care to show there white Shirts to Blue Shirts.

I'm thinking this woman has already had a few chances to learn this wasn't the guy for her, before she got stabbed 14 times, but she was still with him, because she loves him. Learning from past mistakes and experience isn't really their thing. I'm not trying to blame the victim here, but some people just end up being the victim over and over somehow. If your boyfriend is the type to do carjackings and stabbings, maybe find a new boyfriend. But he probably buys her things in between the beatings and stabbings, so she stays with him. I'm pretty fine with it. In court at the bond hearing for the stabbing, his PD actually had to balls to say that the original prior arrest upset and stressed the defendant out because of his mental trauma of the arrest experience made him a ticking time bomb. The whole thing was saying the police from his prior arrest caused him mental trauma giving him extreme anger and PTSD which led to this stabbing.

Off topic - What's the deal with all the botched police raids that local CBS news has been covering (complete with body cam video)? I haven't seen anything on this blog about them - but maybe I missed it. I would be interested in hearing a police officer's side of the story.
I live in Wash DC and read SCC every so often and see the utter frustration the police must have with these Navarro style judges. And I wonder always: when will a victim or victim’s family come after these judges?

Sometimes science doesn't have the answer. Perhaps the conversation about people not being able to function in "our" society is right. But then again, thats just talk, isnt it?

I do not know Fioretti, never met him and am not related to him in any manner. You know he will run. To blazes with Daley, Joyce, Vallas and the others. You are not exempt. Your ilk has created the problem, but you expect someone else to come in and clean it up for you.

Wanna bet? If these morons learned from their mistakes, there wouldn't even be a Democrat party. They keep voting for the same shit and think it helps them. I guess it does in the case of the criminals. I'm thinking this woman has already had a few chances to learn this wasn't the guy for her, before she got stabbed 14 times, but she was still with him, because she loves him. Learning from past mistakes and experience isn't really their thing. I'm not trying to blame the victim here, but some people just end up being the victim over and over somehow. If your boyfriend is the type to do carjackings and stabbings, maybe find a new boyfriend. But he probably buys her things in between the beatings and stabbings, so she stays with him. Crime pays the bills, along with our tax dollars. It's a great system for criminals and their "loved" ones.
