This was supposed to be a sporting event:
Damario Ferguson said he was “feeling good” Tuesday afternoon, despite losing a kidney and part of his colon and large intestine as a result of a shooting Friday night after a Mount Carmel-Morgan Park football game.
Damario, 15, was one of seven young people who were shot over the weekend in a spate of attacks as the school year gets underway.
We can say with little doubt that his life going forward will be one of discomfort, nagging pain and untold medical issues.
We remember entire years where basketball games were played in locked and empty gymnasiums.
That might be the only solution.

That kid has an off duty Evergreen Park paramedic to thank for saving his life. The paramedic was standing feet from the kid when lead started to fly. Let it be know that one of ours, a 003rd district officer on scene was unwilling to lend a hand when asked by the paramedic. I will not go into any more details for department or this guy’s sake, but if the “dog” is reading, shame on you!

The youths wised up to that midnight basketball bullshit. It was crap, and it did nothing to solve any problems for the youth. Bounce a ball and stay dumb.
The Catholic high school football players work harder. The coach can tell them if you don't like it, go home and tell your father to sign a tuition check. Public school kidd can say, "fuck you coach. I will stay home and play videogames."
This kids life is fucked. He is just the last to know.
