Another big "event" and another cancellation of all days off:
- Isnt this basically saying that mexican people can’t behave themselves? They don’t cancel the entire depts days off for St Patrick’s day, polish Independence Day, Columbus Day. But for Mexicans, obviously according to the people in charge they are an out of control race that can’t be trusted. Sounds like we have some racist leaders.
On one hand, this is usually described as the "racism of low expectations."
On the other hand, if we get caught short-handed and a large disturbance breaks out, BJ is going to look bad along with the command staff.
If the previous administrations hadn't let shit get completely out of control the past few years, it might be easier to anticipate issues. As they didn't, we're dealing with an entirely new paradigm of crowd situations.

I would like to take this time to thank the incompetent leadership of CPD. The more they mismanage the dept the more money I make. I want to thank them for an affordable new car payment, some home renovations, and 2 more mini get a ways to Florida this year alone all paid for with OT. Making half my monthly salary in OT after taxes has improved my quality of life. Me and my family would like to thank you. Keep up the incompetence.
Yep and they've done a great job in Mexico since they got their independence from Spain. The flood gates are wide open, a lot to celebrate in 2023.

I remember working in 025 at fullerton and cicero during Mexican independence day in maybe 2004? John Thomas rolled up to offer support and a few words of encouragement, he was always a very kind man. Not a minute later, huge lines of cars went driving by chucking beer bottles at us. It was just a barrage of nonstop beer bottles. I'm American first and Irish decent second. I would never even consider during this on the 4th of July. Things have really gotten too far out of control. On the days that you aren't supporting your country/place of origin, how about putting your: Polish-Ukraine-Irish-Italian-Puerto Rican-Venezuelan-Guatemalan-whatever flags down and consider showing support for the very country that opened it's arms to you.
The other aforementioned ethnicities dont take over downtown with stuoid car caravans and doing donuts on the street.
Well, just as there are passionate disagreements amongst the various 'black' communities, both generationally here and newly arrived, so there are passionate disagreements amongst the same concerning the 'latino' communities.
And, as both communities have their proportionate share of law/civilized respecting, and not so much giving a shit about respecting the law/civilized, thus the wisdom of increased police presence.

No need to panic. America's Independence Day a.k.a. Fourth of July was celebrated by the newly arrived residents in the Little Village, Brighton Park, Back of the Yards Chicago Lawn and other communities or villages by the tens of thousands. There was no trouble whatsoever. Its almost if they didn't exist. The assimilation in their new home country went on without a hitch. Even the democrat elected officials at this Nation's Independence parades behaved waving those oversized American Flags symbolizing pride in all that America offers.
So many take pride in the country they abandoned but fail to acknowledge they country that if generous even if they disregarded processes and laws. So many elected officials wave foreign flags in public but have rarely been seen waving Old Glory. I forgot, they drive around with flags adorning their vehicles beeping their horns and hanging out their windows displaying their pride.
Celebrations of foreign culture is the norm now.

“Experienced command staff????” Who the hell would that be? It’s been a good 20 years since I can recall anyone being slightly competent. The leadership has been horrendous for a very long time. The only boss I thought was pretty good was Tom Walton. Mauer was ok until he went after the Cabrini Green cops.

Well if you’re not totally 100% against them being able to cancel BOTH our days off over something like Mexican Independence Day, then maybe you’re part of the problem. It’s not a natural disaster or an unforeseen event that they need all hands on deck for. It’s Mexican Independence Day that they know comes around every year and can plan for an ENTIRE year to come up with a strategy that is NOT cancelling everyone’s days off.
Everyone on the job has and will tell you that the worst thing this department is doing to its officers is cancelling their days off. Yet at the first moment he can, what does our newly minted supt do… cancels all our days off. You want to stop officers from hating this job so much and leaving, stop cancelling our days off. It’s that easy. That’s all you have to do. I guess if you never worked the real streets and just worked out in the academy your whole career you don’t understand this simple rule. going to work for this supt has just been going to the gym for the last 25 years, of course he doesn’t mind cancelled days off.

My neighbor next door just moved to Belmont and Austin. She is a CPS teacher and used to be one of my sons teachers. He can’t come up with other strategies besides canceling RDO’s, so he’s not that bright. If they’re going to keep canceling RDO’s then it might make sense to send all the other officers in these worthless units like CST back to a district. No respect should be given.

Why does this department have an entire Fugitive Apprehension Unit under the D-Unit and on top of that Area Mission Homicide Teams (plain clothes officers) dedicated to picking up homicide offenders, as well. Two separate units with the same responsibilities. One of my guys just went over, but why do they need both?

Troopers get pissed when CPD doesn't take the arrest. It's a Chicago case. If CPD keeps shunning the arrests the troopers will stop chasing these cars. ISP is not set up to call felony review on our nonsense.
And every case I've had where ISP was involved they did an outstanding job. Thanks you ISP.

Thanks for proving the point but not answering the question. Why is the Chicago Police Department asking Illinois State Police to do our jobs within the city? The offenders that they are engaging in a high-speed chase (and taking on all the risk for) committed felonies within city limits. I'm sure you don't offer to do traffic crashes on the expressways within the city. This foolish game continues and the governor will shutdown any assistance from ISP whatsoever. And if the media becomes aware of this loophole...

Go ask them yourself. The area homicide teams help with a lot of the work assisting the dics. Not just going out and grabbing offenders, but all aspects of the case when the dics ask for it. FAU is a completely separate unit not under the areas…and only go after someone once a warrant is issued.
