A vicious attack in Bucktown this week prompted community residents on Wednesday to demand that more be done to protect them from a spike in robberies.
Bucktown Community Organization board member Steve Jensen was “shocked and horrified of the blatant brutality” he saw in a video of a daytime robbery on Monday near Damen Avenue.
“I felt sick to my stomach and terrorized,” Jensen told the Sun-Times. “I can only imagine how the victim felt. And I’m shocked and disgusted that this continues citywide, with no answers, explanations or solutions from City Hall and our state legislature.”
According to police, a 33-year-old man was walking in an alley near the 2000 block of North Damen just before 3 p.m. Monday when two other men approached him from behind, beat him and took his belongings before fleeing southbound on foot.
CWB blog has video of the robbery. This sudden "demand that more be done" is confusing us, based on the voting patterns of the past few years, the signs in windows, the marches, the graffiti and strange words and gestures being shouted and shown to us on a daily basis.

So he believes that Covid 19 has caused long lasting effects in the poor community. The problem is not Covid 19 nor poor people as there are plenty of poor people who are not robbing people. My recommendation is to get your organization to march on City Hall, go to the Council Meeting, sit in at the Mayor’s Office demand to be heard. Other groups have done this for years with success. Demand that the Mayor, Counsel Members, the States Attorney and Judges come to your community meetings to answer what they are going to do about this rampant crime in your neighborhood. Have them explain the Safe-T-Act,you could even invite the Governor. When elections come around you are going to get dozens of those glossily mailers from these people on how they are tough on crime and other wondrous things and that you should vote for them. The time is now don’t wait till then. The police do what they can with what they have and would be more that happy to help but they are in a holding pattern. Wishing you luck.

I saw this video. Another person in complete denial about what the city is now and what his fellow citizens of a certain color are now. I'm not victim blaming but a little situational awareness is needed at all times. He should have turned around as soon as he spotted those two or at least walked the streets and not the alleys. My kids live there and I directed them to watch that video for educational purposes.

Voter turnout was very low and the victim most likely didn’t show up at the polls. Vallas had the FOP locked down, and Johnson the same with CTU, but regular voters were turned off. Right on! A cancer has crept into CPD, its called millennialism. They are young, think they are wise, but are fools, and have no respect for anything, or anyone. Could be it is caused by growing up and never being told they are wrong, and always getting a trophy no matter how much they sucked.
I know this is going to sound weird but from the observations I've made of progressives in general is I would not be surprised if they started saying "situational awareness" is some sort of -ist/ism.
That is probably why the guy didn't even look when he heard someone running just out of a "what are they running from" stand point.
