More Rumors of Manpower
The comment sections are popping with speculation:
- No worries they are disbanding the Community Safety Team. Apparently
McDermott leaked it to a few of his cronies and they’re now scrambling
to find another unit to get to asap because it will go down ala SOS and
MSF with no notice (any day now) and all of those poor young officers
will get sent back to patrol to back fill beat cars.
After all, patrol is the “backbone of the department” and someone has to help answer calls in certain neighborhoods, who according to the recent OIG’s report, are being discriminated upon because there are “geographic disparities in CPD’s response to 911 calls and that they have experienced slow or no response” particularly on the South and West sides.
Instead of “racially targeting and discriminating” with all the traffic stops they do (see below report), now the CST teams will help out with the backlogs of calls in the districts they are assigned to and the department will kill two birds with one stone. Backlogs will decrease due to the influx of officers back in districts and traffic stops will also decrease which will appease those that are watching.
If they're going "a la SOS and MSF" then anyone in those CST's better start looking to bid out ASAP. Long time readers and anyone with more than sixteen years on will recall when the First Deputy went to SOS and told everyone that rumors of their disbanding were completely untrue.
Two weeks later, SOS was disbanded and everyone was given their "choice" of three Districts to go to, starting with 004, 005, 006 and 007 and pretty much nothing north of I-55. Hundreds of cops got screwed, but not nearly as bad a MSF a few years later.
MSF was warned by old time coppers and the blog that there was a rumor circulating that they were about to be disbanded. Lo and behold, it came true and everyone was given a short list of crappy districts to go to.
Then, the Department closed District bids for almost 18 months. Well, we shouldn't say "closed," but all that Patrol Division posted were openings to 003 for months on end. Commanders who asked for favors were told they could get their phone call people on a one-for-one trade basis....and those volunteers were few and far between. It's all in our archives. Go dig around.
And if you're in a team like CST where you volunteered to surrender Contractual protections, think about the warnings of the past.

Heard some already received the word and are bailing. Look to the supervisors. If any of them have bailed already you know it’s on.
They had a good ride. They got their blue cards and that was it. Saturated an area like they were told. I don’t blame anyone for joining. They had a good 4-5 years outta patrol. Not bad.
The political winds are ever changing.
Imagine thinking you finally found a spot you could retire from, only to learn you are being dumped, and not to the unit you came from.
“Long time readers and anyone with more than sixteen years on will recall when the First Deputy went to SOS and told everyone that rumors of their disbanding were completely untrue.“
More than 16 years on?? Ha! Over 90% of people on this job have less than 10-13 years. They’re completely clueless. If it wasn’t on TikTok it never happened.
. . So, does this mean they will be also cutting some of Major BJ's 150 coppers assigned to him down to size?
Can they please get rid of our worthless Lt ND in Area 4 Sat. It’s disturbing listening to this creep talk when he’s there for 3 hours a day.
They refuse to listen. They think they're all going back to the units they came from because the bosses said so. Good luck.
Quit Whining and Do Your Job! Tact is no better than Patrol! Grow a pair and deal with it you entitled babies!
I want to say that 99% of CST are young officers who probably have great intentions about the job and want to do the right thing and be the police. If they are done wrong like ghost other units there will probably be a lot of bitter officers. I was a street copper, always wanted to be the 1st on scene and get the bad guy but after 20+ years I regret it because patrol is the worst thing I did and anyone can do as a police officer. My advice is try to get into a unit, learn about the many possibilities this job offers and yes its not easy. Many, many of those positions are for the family members, side pieces, etc. But that doesn't mean you can't try. Learn something different than patrol, especially something you can use in the civilian world after retirement.
Some units start up and shut down like a revolving door! Sometimes they are good while they last. Beak up your time on the job!
They should’ve never created the CST in the first place. These types of teams accept officers with little to o no time on the job. Experience matters. Initially the CST was supposed to handle all of the protests and deployments. That never happened. I actually thought that the unit was disbanded already. Let’s address the elephant in the room. The department is good at creating citywide teams, and drafting the least experienced officers from districts because they want more activity. The powers that be, knows that seasoned officers are not going to conduct 5-6 traffic stops a night, in the dead of the winter. P.O. French (RIP), P.O Bogard were in these types of units, and both were newer officers with under five years on the job. Both matters were different, but their amount of police experience were similar. Send the young lads back to their districts.
We will definitely need more manpower when we look at what’s going on throughout the world, especially in Israel what the terrorists did and Biden and the Democrats allowing tens of thousands hundreds of thousands millions of illegal criminals just to freely walk into our country just a matter of time to some of these cells come together we will need all the help we can get and the military stuff they don’t want Chicago police and other police departments to use which was given to the police department by Republican administrations knowing the future we need to start using it and getting it ready Brandon just appointed a shit load of Alderman that are all part of the social agenda. Incredible . Thanks for everything you do second city cop to help get the real news out there the truth.
Not really backbone, more like butthole.
We are at 10,400 roughly. We had 470 new hires this year with about 550 retires/departures.
The Mayor's security detail has more officers than 016.
Maybe 1631's beat can become part of Norridge? Annex it.
As you get older, you get better, or are supposed to, and yet the 20 y/o has no work ethic, no drive, no passion, as you have, SCC.
You get it from the white shirts and little to no support from the hires of the last several years. They were taught differently. Very different!
I'm retired. Not LEO, not Illinois, but I loved my job (and took guff from the public,) but the difference between me retiring and the CRUD coming in was like the difference between a 50 y/o and a 20 y/o. What a difference. I was a "dinosaur and knew nothing." So be it! Retired at 59. I was pretty stupid, I guess.

If you’re dumb enough to believe that CST was gonna last forever and that it’s “a spot you could retire from”, expect a call from a different Bosshole when they reinvent the wheel and put together the next “elite” citywide unit to “tamp down crime”.
It’ll be under a new catchy name and you dummies too good to man a beat car will again be lied to. And again the masses of no-time-on-the-job know-it-alls will submit To/Froms begging to go to a unit where they’ll violate department policy and wander into gray areas (or worse) in the quest for meaningless activity for early ducks for supervisors who couldn’t give a fuck about them.
You kids should really pay attention to what those crusty old timers tell ya. After all, those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.
Remember kids, details are not permanent and can end at any moment. Enjoy while you're there. Just don't jump in with blindfolds on
off TOPIC BUT THE MEDIA IS SAYING Chicago Casino (Medina Temple) is already 2nd busiest casino in state. Good news for pension?
This wouldn’t be as bad at msf and did. They were assigned to 153 and 253 etc. cst are only detailed and still have a district of assignment. So the detail would be cancelled and they would go back to the district.
Not really backbone, more like butthole.
It's all connected back there!
As someone who spent years in patrol and eventually escaped, I can say wholeheartedly that patrol is most definitely the butthole of the Department. You are flat out treated like crap and are an afterthought. Which is really weird to me because it’s where you are most needed. I think if management came to that realization and treated those in patrol a little better it could go a long way. And I’m not even saying we need to be put on a pedestal and have every want & demand catered to, but we certainly don’t need to be the dumping ground of all things miserable either.

It is 100% not possible for ordinary zero clout copper to make it to a unit of any kind. There are only few positions available and everything on this department is rigged. Everyone knows it. I tried for years to make it out of patrol and nothing ever happened until higher ranking friend put in the good word. The good ride eventually ended but 9 years was a good run! Patrol is trash.
I used to work for cook county department of corrections. Every superbowl sunday we all catch the 24hr flu and call off. Anyway Im on my 1,234th covid test Ive taken this week hoping for that sweet positive. Timekeeper says I have no time, I say one of these tests will say otherwise. Off to my trailer park and a bucket full of coors! Cheers!
This department's biggest enemy is EACH other. Is there worthless white shirts on this job, of course, but there's also a handful of worthless coppers/ boners on this job too. But that is contributed to the size of this department. With that being said officers should not always feel salty because of certain units and those officers in it. Worry about yourself and you'll be just fine.
“Not really backbone, more like butthole.”
The butt hole is very necessary, for several things.
Did any of them get CST tattoos?
Rumors are rumors. We shall see, but...
Some units should be downsized to fill spots in districts that are short. That's a no-brainer. Sadly the tax paying districts will remain low on manpower.
16 years on and this is the perpetual reality. Those MSF and TRU guys were salty when they got dumped. Rightfully so the way that was handled.
Live by the clout, die by the clout.
Citywide CST is going away. Area CST teams will go back to saturation teams for the areas. The citywide team is down to less than 75 officers so don’t expect to see huge numbers of officers coming back to your district. They need teams that can be canceled and moved around for all the events and then the DNC. Don’t expect to see the area teams messed with till after the DNC.

Give them a paycheck only if they do so and crime drops swiftly
What about TRU ? Everyone forgets TRU....
The total number is irrelevant.
It's the total number of officers on the street that actually matter. We could be 15,000 strong on paper but half could be on inside positions, iod, medical, no pay status, etc...

The CST people are all detailed to CST? If so they should all go back to their districts of assignment. There shouldn’t be a Super bid like SOS. Majority of POs on the job were not around when SOS got disbanded.
What are they gonna do with merit Lt Thelma Vega then? Will she actually have to go to a district as a Lt ? No chance. What about Zogg aka Mr Blue Card??
Oh no. Don’t send me back ! I love our inspirational speeches from Pauly “blue cards” and his minions. So much for 5 hour days and straight to the bar.

Bam! Suck it CST haters. Back to 022, 019, and 020 I go with 3 years otj. Clout rules.
Not much sympathy for CST.
Good luck to them seeing some real work.
I spent half my 30 on patrol and half in units. The last several years on patrol were probably the most satisfying because I focused on helping people rather than making arrests. Strangely enough, I made more arrests than when I was trying to get them. Ask any copper to think about the most satisfying day of his career, and nine out of 10 will talk about a time they helped somebody. That is what police call a clue. Forget hunting people and start helping them.
They need to disband the DCO program before CST.

Lt Vega has heard of the horrors of approving arrest reports from her BF Jan who is currently on her 11th month of stress leave. You would think somebody who studied hard enough to score #1 on the lieutenants test would know what the position entails.
Hair gels from MSF are now old timers lololol
——-They are now all bald. Lol
I'm pretty pro-union, and what they did to MSF/TRU was really nasty. I mentioned those stories to officers who put in for 715 and 716, not to discourage them, but to give them something to consider.
I was anticipating getting angry again as the city screws over a new batch of officers who got shit on for doing what was asked of them, however, after reading a few posts bitching about Paul, and/or 5 blue cards, it's pretty clear some of you don't have a fucking clue.

You’re an idiot. Patrol officers with ticket books are not the ones getting the gun/drug/robbery arrests. They answer calls and not much else. The more proactive ones don’t write too many parkers. Patrol is great if you like it, but not too many proactive cops left. Not like 17 years ago when I came on.
I’m just glad I’m still in the Jump out Boys crew. Although roll call is a little lonely!

And can you explain why anyone would be motivated do more beyond just taking radio assignments? What's the benefit/reward for your typical unclouted officer to stop cars for traffic violations or conduct street stops? I'll answer that for you, there is NONE!
The clouted ones are going home after 4 hours of "hard work-5 blue cards" and the rest of us are still in a beat car till checkoff and sometimes beyond handling jobs on their beat. GTFO you connected clown.

Hey everyone Professor Patty Casey here again. Well I cannot overlook these two up and comers. I can say Vega was a terrible student and didn’t take my advice so she had to make some call(s), shed some tears and hope to be a merit pick. Lucky for her she has the right backer for now but her rise won’t be as glorious as others. Now on to one of my best students….”LT” Paula Zogg. He wasn’t smart enough when he was a merit sergeant but with my class work and awesome teaching skills Pauly was able to lock in a spot in the first Lieutenant class. Other notable MERIT sergeants were also in that class. That just proves that I’m capable of getting MERIT people promoted at a faster clip than the professional scammer Dr: Bernstein. Isn’t that right DILLON girls…….
Until next our promotion class….
Love always,
Professor Patty
put the D unit in uniform
Zogg is nice guy but not so bright. He was a merit Sgt for absolutely no reason and was in SOS when all the shit went down. Somehow he walked.

I agree...I am old enough to remember when job postings were in the daily bulletin then on the "I -Clear" site...not connected, but I was able to move around just by applying, showing up, and working hard...bosses value, loyalty, work ethic, and smarts..in that order.
So if CST getting disbanded why is there an AMFM looking for CST officers? Plus no changes will be made until after the budget hearing so the dollars and cents are spent as is.
Just to be clear for you nitwits:Captain is a rank. Yes, you are appointed but you are not an exempt. Captains have a union, and cannot be demoted unless done so by the infamous Police Board. So,stop the hate. And dammit get your own clout.
CST are a bunch of cry babies that can't handle jobs and want to be part of a "unit". Long forming TVBs like the suburbs, give me a break. TIME to be the police. You were used like tampons similar to SOS and MSF. Here come the DUMPS!
Professor Patty! LOL That’s hysterical!
Now Professor who else was Merit Sergeant in that first Lt. class?

Yep. Once appointed/made captain, no demotion which is different from just being a Lt made acting whatever or made commander etc cause here's the catch- your last rank position is still just Lt.

I'm late to the party here but from what I gather here is more proof cops are our own worst enemies. The hateful comments and disgruntled spilling of what is apparently insider information is on par for the men and women in blue. This is why I never went to cop bars or events. Bunch of crybaby backstabbing. I'm retired now but I always kept my circle of cop friends small. And yes, units aren't forever so enjoy while you can if you get the chance
Hurry up and send them ALL BACK. What a waste of manpower.
A Captain can only be demoted during the first 18 months I believe, it’s only happened once and that was within the past year. After that a Captain will always be a Captain even if demoted from exempt.
So if CST getting disbanded why is there an AMFM looking for CST officers? Plus no changes will be made until after the budget hearing so the dollars and cents are spent as is.

BOP puts those out automatically for every unit on a pre determined timetable. It means nothing. Taking officers from the Bureau of Patrol and redistributing throughout to the BOP has zero effect on the budget.
We’re at 6500

WRONG. A captain can be demoted anytime. However, there is a process in place that requires a hearing with evidence being produced. And it has happened before. Captain, E.O-K, a nut case since being a PO, was demoted from captain back to lt. Tried to teach whores in the lockup how to bathe.
