Retirements Down?

Not in the NYPD:

We had a friend who retired just before the Covid nonsense and he described a seminar of perhaps one-and-fifty cops at the Multipurpose room at HQ. Our recent experience within the past few years was an on-line experience with no attendance figures forthcoming.

This video is over 800 NYPD in Queens. Given the size of New York City and the NYPD, we assume they hold multiple seminars in different boroughs during a given year.

Their hiring classes are huge, so it makes sense that their retirement are similar.

CPD won’t even do retirement seminars now. They have some old videos they you can watch that are outdated! They need to bring back in person ones where you can actually ask questions. Thinking they don’t because they don’t want you to retire!

The city did many things to encourage early retirement. You max out at 29 and a day and it used to be 32 and a day. The top salary is at 25 years of service instead of 30. The biggest one is the 55 and out medical package. Before all that guys would stay till they were 60 for the free medical. Almost everyone I talk to can't wait to hit the button and get off the job, it's become that bad.

Funny how they switched our retirement seminars from in person to watching it online, but training still has to be done in person.

“Retirements Down?“

Ha! EVERYDAY is retirement here in FLOP Land when I rely on others to carry my workload.

Combine one part laziness with equal amounts of ineptitude and obliviousness, sprinkle in some lethargy and disinterest and allow to remain sedentary the whole workday and you’ve got the recipe for Backstabvich Work Ethic.

Why is the department still advertising a sergeant test in March, when nobody here is retiring and they are fully staffed at sergeant? Seems like a huge waste of money for the city.

If their hiring classes are huge, does that mean they have lowered the standards so much that they can get hundreds of recruits? I wonder what percentage of those who start at the Academy actually finish?

Most people are going to retire when its good for themselves, a few did leave after the Saint George Floyd (died because of fentanyl) riots but only those who needed a little push and wanted to leave. Its amazing how much destruction the progressives can create on a lie.

The common question asked by just about anyone on this job nowadays…. How much longer are you sticking around? Seems to me that in the next 5 years they are going to be begging people to stick around. That “retention bonus” ain’t gonna cut it. By the end of this goofy communist mayor’s tenure I will finally have the option to push the button. I just do not see this City improving in any way shape or form.

I used to go to retirement seminars every year after 15 years on. It was a good day and a free lunch. Then I would sign up for "stress management" classes. That was a good two days...I had a dumb boss who always tried to convince me not to go...but I always went.

The union fought for those benefits, and I wonder what happened to them.

When I retired, I had to wait in line at the HQ personnel department. It was quite crowded and the line went down the hall...That was the beginning of the light going on and people retiring with slightly more than 20 years on.

If you are a former military, you can buy two years of time to add to your retirement and transfer the money out of your Deferred comp painlessly. You will make back your investment in under 10 years. With the cola raises, it's almost a no brainer.

I got 5 to pull the plug and 10 to be at 25. This job has no purpose anymore other than the 1st and 16th. I'm too old to do federal which would have been way better but I followed the answer the call slogan 13 years ago and was blinded by their recruitment vids and Snelling academy tours. Now the entire state and city is a cesspool of lawlessness and high cost of living/education. For those coming on, trust me...get your foot in the door and leave to another state or go federal. New hires are literally scraped from outside the barrel (dangerous). Be safe, smart and do research, be prepared for an exit plan if you're not "good" LEGIT test taker, a clouted desk dolly, cry baby team brown noser, or thirsty friend/neighbor with merit supervisors. God speed to CPD, hopefully in 10 years it becomes a respected department again. The damage since Saint Floyd, Kim Foxx, JB laws, Consent Decree, BWC and chase directives were detrimental beyond repair. I wouldn't be surprised if CPD will be CPSC Chicago Public Safety and Community one day and not the POLICE.

Answer the Call (last hurrah)
Be the Change (targeted old vets)
It stars with you (no one left)

I remember they had a Polish officer in 025 who you couldn't understand years back. Richard K. was his name. He'd get excited on the radio yelling for assistance in a mix of English/Polish.

I bought my time from the military for an early out in 2025. It seems like everyday that goes by the more each penny I spent was well worth it. That's how bad it's gotten, paying to get out.

This job has become 100 times more dangerous than ever before! No amount of money will keep coppers around after they find out the reality of the job. You do your job the right way and you can still end up in jail, fired, terminated with no pension, placed on call back with no pay status. If there is no video or proof, your word don’t mean shit!! You can get killed or go to jail for just doing your job.. Is this job worth $110k a year, after 10years??

If you are wanting to tetire, talk to retirees, contact the pension board, benefits dept., credit union, and FOP. You can usually only do this online.Do the Par form online under dept. Of personell, in the Clear system, then have to do another par in commander's office. Then contact the pension board, who will email you paperwork you email back. Then deferred comp, same thing.

Supposedly half the academy class quit after the off duty P.O. was shot and killed in her car.
