New York will rely on diesel-powered snow plows as opposed to electric ones this Winter, halting its goal to put electric ones on the street after a failed testing period.
Three years ago, the New York Department of Sanitation ordered seven electric rear loader garbage trucks made by Mack LR Electric. The department has not been able to find electric trucks that are powerful enough to plow snow like the original diesel ones.
[...]The electric vehicle trial period failed to produce the desired results needed to move away from diesel snow plows.
The trucks lose effective power after....two hours. And while that might be great for the truck driver's overtime checks, it doesn't get New York City moving after a significant (or insignificant) snow storm.

Had to ask loudly from someone think a nurse for a towel to help stem bleeding. Noticed all the workers walking around as obviously Christ stresses "diversity" over quality. What a shitshow! Went here years ago great experience now wow quality and care gone down! Finally got seen, in room after waiting a long time, stitched up after hours!

Not hard to see this coming. Working as an agricultural harvest helper this past October, I saw product trucks make 12-13 deliveries from the fields every 12-hour shift I had. Each one was carrying 15-20 tons to drop off, and drivers replaced each other to keep the harvested product coming in. Some farms had their own couple of trucks, some hired farm fleets of twenty or so tractors and trailers. Ain't no way a battery is going to handle a surge of use like that. No amount of solar will load them at night (or day for that matter), not enough wind to spin any turbines. But if you're a city boy, you'd have little idea of what the rest of the country does to feed you anyway. Can't let facts get in the way of a cool narrative.

OT with the increase of the max retirement age to 65 does that mean if you retire at 55 you are paying for medical for an extra 2 years?

Not sure what the hell you mean, when you retire at 55, your medical from the city goes until Medicare kicks in at age 65. Your statement doesn’t make sense!!!

The city has bought a handful of Electric Ford F150s and Transit vans at O'Hare. They installed EV charging stations in the AMC building. The plan is to get all the yellow and white MTD vehicles over to EV eventually. Don't see how that is going to work. Can't wait til they try that with the snow plows here.
