Chicago Acorn

Oh wait, not an acorn:

  • The Civilian Office of Police Accountability said Tuesday that no one shot at CPD officers last month before an officer fired shots toward a boy on the South Side. Video was also released of the incident.

Three on-duty officers in a marked squad car were responding to a ShotSpotter notification in the 8500-block of South Winchester Avenue in Auburn Gresham about 11:30 p.m. Jan. 25, when they saw a boy standing near a home, COPA said.

"As one officer exited the vehicle, they heard a loud bang, which was later determined to be fireworks," COPA First Deputy Chief Administrator Ephraim Eaddy said.

The officer then shot in the direction of the boy, COPA said.

Training issues, but with COPA expect the worst.

An armed agent of the government using unjustified deadly force is a lot more than a training issue.

Just remember when shotspotter ends that's another evidentiary tool that will be lost to police.

Hope you find casings, but we all know how difficult that can be.

Your professional word vs COPA, offenders and maybe witnesses that go either way, if you're lucky.

I heard a loud bang coming from King John’s closed office immediately followed by someone singing The Star Spangled Banner. But I haven’t seen anything resembling an acorn here either.

A steady spirit provides a foundation for avoiding reactive actions.

To prematurely return fire may be warranted, in an actual free fire war zone. Where it can be policy most official.

In this environment, not so much.

A civlian perspective is not the wisest pov for a law enforcement officer.

Reaction to sudden gun shot(s) even for civilians in present possession of a firearm is not to 'return fire', but to seek cover, pronto.

Seek cover, strive to identify direction of incoming, then access your options.

And for law enforcement officers, returning fire is a last choice, always. Not a take a guess and squeeze.

Well, you had an active team of police officers responding to a call now you will have more and more police officers questioning everything response time will suffer a mistake as a mistake training issue as stated, that is all it is nothing more nothing less. But this organization of police hating clowns is trying to justify their means taking more and more multi million dollars for payroll passing it around to people that are not even qualified to investigate grass.

First and foremost no one should believe any statements from copa, especially from anyone with such a fake title like first deputy chief administrator...

Let’s not forget the firework was thrown at the kid from behind and went off right in front of his face with a large flash, exactly like a muzzle flash, exactly where a gun would be presented.

I like the title Most Reverend First Deputy Chief Administrator-In-Charge better.

Did the officer do 2 combat rolls on the sidewalk before opening fire? {clown emoji}

I guess it's better than the 2 female Houston police officers that opened fire and unloaded on a homeowner:

Lets take the focus off the officer and put it on Bureau of Internal Affairs, Chief Yolanda Talley. They're making a big ass deal about her on CPD twitter page. https://x.com/Chicago_Police/status/1763234283706273860?s=20

Her niece's boyfriend is also getting some attention: https://x.com/Chicagos_Toast/status/1763264045098942748?s=20

I'd be willing to bet it's a hiring issue. Lowered standards and simplified tests leads to lower quality, dumber officers. But as long as they hit their racial quotas all is well.

Let's not forget that fireworks don't sound like gunshots, especially from a few feet away. Let's also not forget that hearing a boom and seeing a flash is not the same as seeing a gun. Unfortunately, as a police officer, you have to be sure that you're shooting at a deadly threat before shooting. People are dumb enough to play games with fireworks or objects in their hands, which sometimes cause the police to shoot them. That only works out when you can convince people that you reasonably believed you were shooting at a deadly threat. Muzzle flash without a muzzle is a bad shoot. I'm assuming the officer didn't shoot while the "muzzle flash" was still present, so it should have been easy to determine if the kid was holding a gun before firing at him. It's hard enough convincing the cop haters when it's a good shoot. Let's not try to justify the bad ones.

At least they didn’t shoot the kid.

Like the Officer Bogard shot an unarmed man on the cta platform. That one was swept under the rug.

Also like the Merit Sgt Muhammad who shot the unarmed kid with autism is still on the job gets 6 mos suspension & city pays 2.25 million settlement.

Both probably juice babies!

Good luck the officers involved..
