A couple good articles over at the Contrarian this week.
First up, an in-depth look at how crime stats are driving an exodus from Bucktown and cratering property values in a rapidly declining Hipster Central:
- Bucktown, Wicker Park, Logan Square and Ukrainian Village crime numbers spiral out of control, causing residents to flee and boutiques to close as high-end property values start to decline
You get what you vote for, and these people voted for Crimesha, Groot, Conehead and Biden in massively lopsided margins.
Another article is a timely lambasting of COPA, pointing out what has been mentioned in our comments section for years:
Though these pages have expressed a deep skepticism of COPA’s mission, the objectivity of its officials, and the qualifications of its employees, it bears repeating COPA is not authorized by state law to conduct investigations bearing upon officer-involved shootings, vehicular collisions, or deaths in police custody. Under Illinois State Law, individuals empowered to conduct formal probes into fatal shootings involving members of the Chicago Police Department (CPD) are limited to personnel certified as “Lead Homicide Investigators.” To attain this professional training certification, one must undergo a series of thorough instruction on procedures surrounding death and murder investigations. Qualified investigators must also be a sworn police officer, licensed to carry a firearm, empowered to make arrests, and employed by a law-enforcement agency commissioned to authorize its employees to possess firearms and make arrests.
Established by virtue of a City Council ordinance, even before the agency began operating in January 2016, COPA faced a torrent of criticism from officers, supporters of CPD, and legal observers. One of the strongest objections is that its investigators are not certified police officers and, therefore, not legally certified as Lead Homicide Investigators.
COPA is nothing more than a rogue political agency formed in violation of state law as an anti-police foil for Chicago pols.

Do you have to cooperate with them? Is this an administrative interview? Should COPA be disbanded, forcibly or otherwise, could any statements you made to them be used against you civilly or criminally? What about bodycam or other video they've developed?
Aside from the evil beginnings of COPA, this sounds like something really bad awaiting police officers forced to defend themselves or others.

I have a cousin who lives in Ukrainian Village. She swears up and down its safe there. Then, almost in the same breath, relates how she is afraid to be out after dark and tells me all about carjackings that happened on her block. It's funny to me at this point.

Point 1:
In our county's present, and historical, position, "fair market value" is the basis for assesed property value, upon which is calculated our yearly property tax.
A "fair market value" increase = an assesed value increase = an increased property tax bill, without county ever having to raise the property tax rate.
A decrease in "fair market value" = a decrease in assesed value = a decrease in property tax that year, and for 2 years thereafter. Again, absent county increasing tax rate.
Point 2:
Increased "fair market value" has benefit, when actual, to property owner only when, 1- property owners sells property and realizes said increase benefit, or, 2- when used as basis, property owner utilizes increased property value to borrow more on said property. (Increased actual fair market value does not automatically = increased rental rates. Rental rates are primarily affected by actual market demand and supply factors.)
Point 3- property owners are either: a) committed to long term residency/usage/rental income, or, b) intent upon realizing gains via sale of increased actual value property, or, c) intent upon utilizing increased property "fair market value" to gain increased borrowing amounts.
Point 4- those owners of property fitting the a) are our neighbors, residents of our county. Those fitting b) are essentially carpetbaggers. Those fitting c) may be honest borrowers or slicksters intending to, when maximum gain is decided having been reached, default dump said milked property onto lenders.
The a) property owners most often prefer lower property tax bill, thus do not pustulate over decreases in the "fair" or actual market value.
The b) have coniption fits.
The c) just end their milking of the lender, default on loan and repeat their methods elsewhere.
On the very birightest side, an exodus of nitwit youngsters is delightful.
I’ve known this since the beginning that these skinny jeans wearing hipsters have zero qualifications to do this job. Not only are they unqualified they are violating state statute. One would think that if COPA whacks someone with a suspension or termination that a hefty lawsuit should be filed and most likely would be won. Fuck COPA and Fuck Rahm for putting this obstacle in place.

More and more businesses are closing, I’ve talked to quite a few business people that are contemplating getting out of here setting up shop somewhere else. The top employers are moving out to the suburbs because they say that is where most of their people live the customers they don’t want to come downtown because they are afraid of getting shot. Beat up car jacked things of that nature. It is all pretty much 90% of the same element that is doing the crimes without any doubt. The community that have these M B, make-believe churches, on almost every block there would be some type of God fear put into them guess not.
THEY do not care about existing statutes or law. THEY only care about their agenda.

Dummies, all of you are true dummies. The “lead investigator” statute only applies to criminal investigations of homicide related offenses. It does not include administrative investigations. Remember COPA cannot bring criminal charges against anyone. And yes, you must answer all questions put to you by COPA in regards to these investigations. If you refuse you will be ordered by a higher rank to answer any and all questions. If you don’t answer after received said order you could be terminated. Stop the damn whining. When coppers screw up they must answer for it. Ok, back to looking for you that need a shave. Good to be king!

There might have been a ten-year window where Bucktown and Logan Square were truly "safe" safe neighborhoods, there was always still a knucklehead population of youthful offenders.

A Kangaroo Court filled with empty suits and bullshit titles with a vengeance for payback. Give them nothing. The voting public got what they wanted; a catastrophe done by design. Policing is dead in the city and the mob rules, and it is sanctioned by the BJ and his administration.

If COPA exists and operates in violation of State Law, then EVERY.SINGLE.OFFICER who's been investigated by them, recommended for discipline by them, caused to be fired by them, etc. needs to file suit against every investigator, board member, whatever of COPA, including the Aldercritters who voted for it, and for the j/o's at CPD who acted upon the recommendations.
Sue personally and professionally. FOP should step up and get the whole thing certified as a class action and file on behalf of all officers so adversely affected.
Ignore them when they show up and want to 'investigate'. And since they're clearly not certified to investigate, arrest the fucks for trespassing upon a crime scene, obstruction of justice, etc... Lock 'em all up every time they show up. Let their juice keep coming by to get them out and DOCUMENT IT, then add those to the lawsuit too.
