Here Come the Vigilantes
A predominantly Black neighborhood in Hartford, Connecticut, hoping to fend off violent crime, has turned to an armed group of citizens to patrol their streets by land and by air. The so-called "Self-Defense Brigade" — made up of about 40 legally armed citizens — are voluntarily patrolling the streets of Hartford’s North End wearing body cameras mostly on nights and weekends, according to the group’s founder, Cornell Lewis.
When the armed volunteers are not on the streets, the group monitors video feeds from a dozen drones hovering over the neighborhood, and 75 home surveillance cameras in the neighborhood.
"The Democratic machine in Hartford is either unwilling or unable, incapable of doing it, and people are paying their tax dollars, and they're not really getting any kind of service," Lewis told Fox News. "So we want the people to understand, number one, self-defense is not a dirty word."
Hartford’s Democratic Mayor Arunan Arulampalam has denounced the group over concerns they will enact vigilante justice.
Lord, we can only hope that they start enacting vigilante justice, seeing as how that's the only justice that will be meted out in blue state shithole cities.
Note, these are legally armed citizens exercising a legal right and selflessly volunteering to do the job that politicians have forbidden the police from doing. The social contract has been broken, so these ladies and gentlemen are using their God given Rights to protect lives and property.
We said here and elsewhere, the police aren't here so much to protect the law-abiding citizens, but rather to protect the criminal from the citizens if it all goes south.
It's gone south. Bravo Connecticut.

If you took the Sgt exam today you'd know why vigilantes and militias are coming to bear. I guess, all those de-escalations , foot and traffic pursuits restrictions, COPA rulings have added up. Police can't do dick.
It’s already started here. There’s a 4 block radius in Dunning where neighbors starting at 11pm take “watch”. I know the jist of it basically entails dog walking at coordinated times, legally armed, high powered flashlights and other legal items. I don’t know about walkie talkies but I do know these people (folks?) take it very seriously and are quite passionate about it. All in lieu of garage breaks, catylkct converter thefts and seeing the Amish walking down the street checking car door handles and scoping residences in the middle of the night. Vigilante crews has already begun, baby! They’re here!

Vigilantism: The slipperiest of slopes. Get the 50# sack of popcorn out, this could be interesting to watch.
And if it turns out that it reduces crime significantly, what are the chances that it spreads to other blue cesspools?

back in my college days, a long long time ago in a state far far away, I had a criminal justice prof who grew up on the south side of Chicago before being sent to Vietnam. He told our class about a bunch of old men who wanted to keep the crime away from their streets so they would lure criminals into an alley by posing as a helpless feeble old man. Once there they would all jump him and stick a 12ga up his ass and pull the trigger. He says everyone started staying away from that area.
They're not vigilantes any more than you are. They care about their neighborhood and are doing something you and the politicians won't. Maybe you should assist and teach them some tactics from when you used to work.
Politicians don't get it, until it's their house, their relative, their car. In other words, the filth has to literally wash up on their privately guarded hive homes before they notice or care.
Then suddenly, these same elected embeciles are all shocked and horrified that people are taking the law into their own hands when it's plain as hell they are NOT letting the police do their job and the DA's are simply collecting pay checks and pandering to agitators and thugs.
Just once, I wish some of these politicians would get a hearty dose of their medicine. And not voting for this crap over and over would go a long way. I can dream I guess.

So, being responsible for patrolling your own neighbourhood after working all day AND paying exorbitant blue city / state taxes. No wonder everybody is moving out. It seems way easier.

That is the only way to keep your area safe, but you have to be careful not to get caught and that today is tricky with all the cameras and cell phone tracking! Hmm did you know we have capability of tracking every cell phone as a police agency and it is being used rarely. For example a crime say carjacking happens they can quickly Geo fence area all the many cellphones and track the phones that are moving away with time and speed in order to rule out phones that are not part of the caper. They then could follow the cell phones and felons wherever why is this technology not be constantly used? Simple answer the democrats in charge are for the lawlessness and then blame police for not doing the job,thus cutting police budgets, more for the illegals and scumbags!

Why can't cops think of an Amish youth with tattoos on his face a an ARTIST. So officers, I say this is you see the Amish with those "traits" holding a weapon of their choosing think of them as heros protecting their hood.

Kind of reminds me of the "Deacons for Defense", in the South during the Post war Jim Crow era.
Some/many of the senior local law enforcement were Klan members (Surprise! Also Democrats).
The "Deacons", many were WW II veterans, organized and patrolled their neighborhoods and stood in front of their homes with shotguns when the Klan cruised by.
IIRC, Condaleeza Rice's father was one of them.

Not possible.
Too many police constantly monitoring the community residents.
As the police are bound by rules which they never, effectively never, violate, no opportunity exists for the residents to provide themselves with these do-it-themselves services.
Granted, said residents would find doing this themselves to be more than a tad difficult then the community referenced in the article, given that a large portion of said community are the ones doing the skulkings.
For Englewood, and other communities, the adage less is more may well apply.
Less police presence = more opportunies for this do-it-yourself adventure, as in do it for yourselves, not to yourselves.
The question then, were much less police presence to be the daily and nightly reality, would be: can Englewood residents not skulkingers avail themselves of this reality effectively?
Perhaps the transfering of most of the ShotSpotter tech out of Englewood and into the referenced community would also aid in providing these opportunities.
The skulkers within Englewood, as within other similar communities, have long had a monopoly upon skulking their neighborhoods with impunity, with the saturation of police patrollings having no discernable lasting effect.
So long has this been true that the skulkers, multiplying as skulkers do, have substantially depleted Englewood of swag, and, thus, the expansions of their skulking territories continues.
Should our ingenious mayor and city council deem the above worthy of considering as an experiment in enabling Englewood's residents with the absence of the abundant police presence impeding said rrsidents' doing it themselves, as in doing it for themseleves, and not the traditionally constant doing it to themselves, perhaps a proving of our progressively minded experts' refrain, black lives matter, would ensue.

The court of caught it, render justice upon it.
The Dunning group post just inspired me to do something similar. Got a few coppers and few firemen on my block and even a few retirees. Wonder if I can rally them up and organize a late night “take watch” schedule.
B tree be careful that group patrolling their neighborhood will become perfect drive by target. Mark my words will happen.
Imagine white citizens arming themselves to protect neighborhoods, especially on the Northwest and Southwest sides, it'd be headline news for weeks here if not the entire country.
Sounds plausible but they’ll end up getting killed by these lawless cork soakers in this upside down world
