Eleven people have been killed and 55 have been wounded during shootings in Chicago so far over the extended July Fourth weekend.
The tally nearly tied last year’s numbers for the entire holiday weekend. Last year, 11 people were killed and 62 others were wounded over the July Fourth weekend.
This year the violence includes three mass shootings, one in which two women and an 8-year-old boy were killed and two young boys were left in critical condition Thursday morning after multiple shooters opened fire into a home in Greater Grand Crossing on the South Side.
Thursday night into Friday sunrise alone accounted for the vast majority of these shootings....and there are still two full days to go with no appreciable drop in temps or weather breaks.
Good thing they installed a 9 PM curfew at the 31st Street Beach!
Maybe a 9 PM citywide curfew could be next?

On the subject of ShotSpotter: devising a smart phone app that supplies real time notifications of alerts to subscribers to same, with zoned location groupings, as large or as small as chosen, as many, via small geographical location grouping, or as few, via large geographical locatiin grouping. No specific ShotSpotter tech equipment locations need be provided to subscribers, though I suspect smaller geographical location grouping to be much more desired.
2. Grant heyjackass permission to add a graphic summation for said alerts, gleaned from subscriber app activity. On a daily basis, as is heyjackass practice, quite the illuminating visual for us oblivious civilians.
3. In addition to CPD routinely supplying somewhat tepid warnings, via community advisements, a daily, and hourly, maybe, updated color coded graphic showing the real time occurences of crimes, accurately defined to the city square block, popped up points on graphic map, color code keyed to include: car jacked, mugged, raped, battered, etc., ie., crimes involving violences, would be so nicely transparent.
4. All of the preceeding leaves the further ponderings of these real time providings of visually clear informations to the ones utilizing them.
310 total killz and 1564 shot year to date. For the week of June 6 - July 7 so far includes 26 shot & kilt and 102 shot and WIA for a week total of 128 shot in Murder City per HeyJackass.
