A protest that was supposed to be about "reproductive rights" morphed into a palestinian march, meaning the permit was probably granted under false pretenses. Expect a lot of this type of democrat "magic" the rest of the week.
As of this writing, almost everything has appeared mostly peaceful and we have no real comments to the contrary. There have been a few "incidents" at outlying events welcoming delegates and such, but not at the highly secure venues.
There was a picture circulating around various social media sites of pallets of bricks, and a couple of high-profile professional media types fell for the scam and that gave it oxygen. CWB - an amateur media outlet - determined these were pictures from Dallas four years ago.
Tomorrow marks the official DNC opening and the start of speeches by big names. If anything is going to be disrupted, expect it then. That National Guard is on standby at 35th and Michigan, but Fata$$ doesn't want to be embarrassed into deploying them. It might cost him a Cabinet position.

Regardless of what happens, the preparation and anticipation of violence and mayhem is very telling and a tad hypocritical, I might add..... Read your contract and previous arbitration and law suit awards ( they are on the FOP website) and file the overtime requests or grievances. And for Christ sake don’t listen to anyone else telling you about what the contract says, read and research it yourself!!! Make sure you put in extra overtime request if the department adjusted your hours by more than 2 hours or for working the 6&7 straight work days refer to 20.7 of your contract and arbitration award for 6/7 days worked. Don’t allow your time keepers or front office tell you can’t submit an overtime request, their choice is to either accept it or reject it. If you don’t put in an overtime request and you win an arbitration award or lawsuit later on down the line you won’t get retroactive pay if you didn’t fill out the overtime request. Know your rights people and don’t allow the department to get away with anything, no matter how small it is! The department has treated us like shit for awhile now (started under the on purpose disregard to our contract under McCarthy, Mr. Fuck’em, let them grieve it) but it was put on overdrive since the reign of Brown/Carter.if you give them an inch they will take a mile. They only way to get respect is to not rollover and fight back!!!

The kids come back only because they never should’ve been hired as police in the first place and they found that out the hard way by transferring to a competitive department where there’s always someone better qualified waiting for your spot. Most are suburban rejects who couldn’t pass the initial written exam (suburbs have basic math on entrance exams.) They somehow go from being grateful for just being hired at all to thinking they really are police officer material. Amazing how earning their first real salary makes them delusional.

Civilian here, routinely worked in Austin about a decade ago. THERE AIN'T SHIT TO EAT ON THE FAR WEST SIDE. Maybe one place with expired hot dogs & frozen catfish served via bulletproof turnstile, that's it.
