Investigators have found that a high-ranking Chicago police official should be suspended in two separate disciplinary cases — one focusing on inflammatory comments he made about Palestinians’ treatment of gay people and another hinging on the improper disclosure of juvenile criminal records to a top mayoral aide.
In each case, the Chicago Police Department’s Bureau of Internal Affairs has recommended that Area 1 Deputy Chief Don Jerome should be suspended for 28 days.
No idea why he'd take fourteen days for saying that "palestinians" would cut the heads off of gay people - they do it all the time and post pictures on social media....if they aren't throwing them off of buildings that is. Just because the truth is uncomfortable doesn't make it not the truth.
The other fourteen days are more deserved - handing off juvenile records to one of the eight "deputy mayors" - but that's what political animals do when told to by other political animals. When told to jump, they ask, "How high...and should I whistle while I do it?" If Don didn't provide the demanded material, they'd find someone who would provide it and put them in Don's spot.
Don was hired in 1994, so he's maxed out - odds are that he leaves before missing two paychecks.

I know Jerome has his share of fans and haters, but I'll just throw my experience with him into the mix. He showed up to two of my jobs while he was a Lt, and the shitheads immediately went running to him to cry about how I wasn't handling their situation properly. He, not really knowing much about me as a newer officer to the district, completely backed everything I did, and made it clear that those whiny shitheads were in the wrong and would be even less happy with how he would handle things if they didn't like how I was handling it. I appreciated the backup, support, and confidence he showed. It's what you'd expect and hope for when a supervisor shows up to your job, but not always what you get. I hope this all works out for him, and wish him well in the future.

You complain about Don helping Eddie Johnson on a DUI.Ok, you are entitled to that position but know that Don has helped policemen get out of jams his entire career. I remember him helping a patrolman get out of a similar beef years ago when he was a Sgt.in 019. Know that it’s not just other bosses that he has helped out over the years.
If he drops down to Captain now, he as to give 30 days notice to get the "Age 55 to 59 Insurance deal". That would put him past 31 December meaning it's too late. He would have to wait til 01 May to get the deal.
Remember, white shirts only get the deal 01 May through 31 Dec with 30 days notice.
I have so many questions. Which deputy mayor. Because just like deputy chiefs, we have several of them. So the Deputy mayor didn’t come to his aid? Isn’t the Deputy Mayor some sort of a boss? They usually huddle and then address the crowd. I’ve always thought that they were sharing information while huddling, before speaking to the crowd. So are you telling me that DJ can do press conferences and share information with the public, but he can’t share information with the Deputy Mayor who is in charge of Community Safety, and who also has PR people on hand before he speaks to the public. Wasn’t the Deputy mayor sworn in and bound by the same ethical principles as the CPD? Damn this department!!!

I applied for a unit and was denied due to an open CR# I was told. Also I couldn’t even attend an award ceremony with my team because of same open CR #. Double standards and BIA doesn’t have a consistent disciplinary system.

It’s well documented that department has been led astray for some time now. It’s also known that most of you have set quietly and have watched innocent members get wronged by this department. You said and did nothing. But now that your clout is taking a bite of the shit sandwich, you’ve decided to protest. Granted, most of us are aware that Jerome is nothing more than a loud mouth idiot, and just like 80% of the other Exempts, he should have never been promoted. He’s careless, flirtatious and he has been an embarrassment to officers while on deployment details. The thing that most refuse to acknowledge is that the expectations that Jerome has built of being “untouchable” has led to a letdown. I’m almost certain that the punishment along is not the main issue here for Jerome. It’s the hypocrites that’s handed down the punishment. It’s the hypocrisy within the decision makers. Three 28 day suspensions? How did he get promoted in the first place? What is Dana O’Malley doing besides eating. Who runs the disciplinary history prior to promotions. I thought that MLAS and Legal Affairs had to clear candidates before they are promoted. I thought that they check with the IG’s office and the Law Department before they promote. I haven’t been gone that long.

I had a DUI in 009 years ago, far west end of the district, illegal alien rolled his car over while drunk. DJ was first on scene and helped the illegal out of the car . Wrote the guy for 501 but when it came to court since I personally didn’t see him driving they needed DJ to testify that he saw the driver physically behind the wheel. He refused to come to court even after multiple attempts by the ASAs. Lost the case and the guy still probably driving drunk out there. DJ is a great cop but his arrogance hurts him sometimes.
I had the privilege of working with Sgt. AA over 15 years ago in 006. Putting politics aside, he and his partner TJ were excellent officers. I personally witnessed them address the challenges that plagued the neighborhood. I’m proud to see him speaking up today.

At the beginning of this month, several Exempts went down and interviewed for promotions. The files are sitting on someone’s desk at MLAS and Legal Affairs. What’s the purpose if, the Superintendent, O’Malley and Waller is going to promote the clouted and socially connected?

Hey Almighty Inspector extraordinaire, I agree the jihadi beards and nail polish are not uniform regulation. That being said, if you followed your thicker than a Bible G.O.s (and lest we forget those Special Orders too) to the very last letter on every job, you would be down on one disturbance call for 2hrs. Nothing runs better and more efficient than an over bloated, over regulated bureaucracy, huh?
