CWB does a decent job outlining the ongoing problem of railroad thefts, something that doesn't get much coverage with crime being down:
Freight trains passing through Chicago have increasingly become moving targets for thieves who board railcars, sometimes while they are moving, force open shipping containers and haul away cargo ranging from large-screen televisions and laptops to air conditioners and laundry detergent.
Railroad investigators say organized groups target rail freight, while drones have become an increasingly important tool for law enforcement trying to catch suspects in the act.
Over the past two years, the thefts have led to a steady stream of arrests on Chicago’s South and West sides, where some of the city’s major railyards are located. Meanwhile, a recent national analysis found that freight train theft has grown into a multimillion-dollar problem.
Nationwide, 75,000 thefts accounting for a couple hundred million dollars, concentrated in LA, Dallas, Memphis and of course, Chicago, specifically the west and south sides.
Since Conehead and Dart have fixed downtown and the CTA, maybe he could move some assets over to the railroads?

Too bad there's not some kind of mechanism on trains to force the thieves off the trains and push them right under the wheels, eliminating them from society permanently.

Long ago, I worked at the Canal and Roosevelt yard , cars would disappear from the lot about once a week, and equipment would also disappear from the building...Early one morning, there were a couple of police cars with lights on and a gaggle of coppers with flashlights, looking for something in a large hole a contractor had dug???
This looks like something very bad had happened.
Ever curious, I walked over and asked a copper, What's up?
He said the Cmdr. collects old bottles and stuff; this area was once a dump after the Chicago fire, and he looks for bottles.
He also noted that when they are digging in the yard, overnight theft should be down around here!
After that, one of my guys bought a book about antique bottle values.And they picked it clean.
Ukrainian drones can solve this.

FBI is taking the lead on these cargo theft cases along with the 4th Police District. The Cook County Retail Crime team has once again stepped in to do the work that CPD doesn't have the manpower to handle.
Check out the chicken heist in LA this week. Full semi of frozen chicken- driver assisted the thieves to pay off his drug debt! Just can’t make this stuff up! The lineup of arrestees is not surprising.
Should hire more RAILROAD POLICE! Billions in cargo can't protect it. THE chicago police department doing those cases which should be the railroads cases...
History repeats itself. This happened in the 80’s when I was in Area4. 011 got hit the hardest and then slowed down only to happen again in 90’ and every decade after. Maybe it the offenders sons and grandsons carrying on the tradition. Nothing new here
I was working on a Tact team back in the day and it was around Halloween. Someone called in a “Dummy” thrown up on the tracks. We respond only to find that a burglar was breaking into the top box of a two-tiered box car. The train shifted causing the burglar to fall onto the Amtrak rails right when the train was speeding by……sliced him clean through. Went to Walgreens, bought a disposable camera and still have some great photos of the scene.
Theft is simply a form of reparations
This is nothing new. I did my college internship with the Illinois Gulf Railroad Police Department back in the 1970's in Chicago. While there was a lot of carthage theft in the Windy City, the police said there were a couple of families in East St. Louis that made a living by stealing cargo off trains. Not much has changed since then other than the scale of the thefts.
Wel, they do and they are very good at their jobs but are overwhelmed. I worked in 007 and the thefts were frequent. The freight yards are well lit and have cameras everywhere .But these mobs sometimes number in the dozens and are hard to contain. These thefts have been going on for a very long time.

Christmas time 1980, over a five hundred cases of Tattinger Champagne swiped from a boxcar at Garfield and Stewart. Everybody partied and some kids were selling it for a couple bucks a bottle.
I remember in Chicago, the RR Security Guards were authorized to use their guns for scumbags who looted rail cars. Look how Chicago has gone down the toilet. Must be security for all, or no security. Look how no leadership, corrupt judges, anti-policing policies, racism has turned Chicago into 3rd world.
I worked the Hyde Park, University of Chicago area for some years. Many times a white victim of a robbery or assault by a black thug would refuse to press charges as they felt sorry for the thug. Nothing new here. That mentality is what elected Johnson to the Mayor's office.Not competence but a inner sense of doing something for the alleged unfortunate.
The bait freight cars and semi truck missions were decried as "unfair" to the poor. Entrapment, encouraging, etc etc etc. These libtards have a warped sense of right vs. wrong and are disassociated with reality. Archie Bunker for president and the superintendent position.
You could always tell what was stolen when the whole neighborhood was wearing the same clothing
The county has been doing cargo thefts for a couple years now. Drones, their helo, railroad agents. It’s a nice operation but doesn’t really make a dent given how prevalent the problem is here.

I know a Railroad Cop here. He tells me that they have to take turns going to California for weeks at a time with the railroad to work in California. It seems that the railroad police wages are so shitty that no one wants the job out west. The R.R. flies the Chicago guys to Cali and puts them up in the cheapest hotels and shuttles them around to the railyards to work out there for weeks at a time. They are all ready to quit; they are so fed up! That's why there is limited coverage at our south side rail yards.
