SCC Exclusive

Is this real?

It sure looks real.

Now what if someone pointed it at you? Would you defend yourself?

We certainly would. And we wouldn't blame anyone else who did. Guess what?

That's exactly what happened. With that specific gun. You see, that's the gun used by this kid...

...to shoot out a bunch of windows at the Piccolo School and a van in the 011 District before he pointed it at an officer, who then shot him. The gun pictured was recovered and inventoried and the subject made a full confession.

So the next time the Slum Times says police are "trigger happy," remember that first photo. That dumbass kid is lucky to be breathing in the hospital instead of pushing up daisies at Burr Oak, though that will probably happen soon enough anyway.

Since he shot out windows at Piccolo School and shot out windows in a van, it is not a question of whether this is a real gun.

By virtue of the fact that projectiles loaded in this implement were able to be launched with velocity capable of breaking windows, in both the school and van, THIS IS A REAL GUN.

It is not a toy. It is not a BB gun, it is a REAL GUN.

Thank you, Officers, for a job well done.

Kids do stupid things, I understand that. But, cops have to defend themselves, no matter what. the liberal media is always looking for an angle to make a sensational storyline. The sad thing about this is the fact the parents had the photo of their child throwing up gang signs and, apparently thinking this was ok, gave it to the media. What does this say about the unbringing this kid is getting. i am glad the officers are ok. I am equally glad that this kid will live so he will have another chance to grow up a decent human being.

About 15 years ago a 14 year old pointed one of those 1911 look-a-likes that shoots darts, BBs, and pellets at me. He then ran into a building. I kicked the door open and he already had his hands in the air and the gun was on the ground. If not for that I would have shot him. The point is that that gun looked real enough to me, so much so that the barrel looked like it was a real 45 or 44.

I still cant believe the papers cropped the photo so as to remove the hands holding the gang signs up. The removal was far from innocuous or immaterial. It fully rebutted the statements made by the family as top the character of the 13 year old but the papers still cropped the photo. Editors should be fired over this. It is more than negligent journalism, it is journalism which seeks to materially twist the facts in such a way as to tarnish the conduct of the police and literally gloss over the background of the 13 year old.

Thank you--again!---for telling the TRUTH! I almost threw up when the family said that he was at a family party. We have to stop being "politically correct" or the danger will continue to grow. And the Chicago papers would do the "community" a favor to TELL THE TRUTH. TELL these families that they won't get away with making excuses and telling lies for their "little" gangbangers.

In the entire two page spread of Frank Main's piece, "Cop Shootings On Rise in 2011" in the Sun-Times the other day, nowhere was it mentioned a very likely driver of the high number of Police related shootings is the fact that Gov. Quinn and the IL Courts parole habitual criminals who are a danger to the public. Additionally, the Cook County States Attorneys Office chronically under charges the usual suspects causing more trouble makers to roam the neighborhoods of Chicago.

There is something really, really wrong with a system that has Ofc.  Bill Cozzi in a jail in the Bayou for slapping an unruly man in a wheel chair while paroling Daniel Jones who shoots CPD Officers & discharged Marines, Ruben Del Valle and Jeffrey Friedlieb, while drug dealing out on parole.

It is probably safe to say the parolee has an extensive rap-sheet.

I think we deserved to know his background, having been paroled.

Calling the shooting to a victim's head an Aggravated Battery (as was the case in a Chicago shooting) is an example of under charging and the mis-application of crime statistics classification, all to cover up the real crime, prosecution and sentencing problems in this city.

I found this quote attributed to the Director of Cease Fire especially clueless as to the root cause of the problem, "The police get training in crime hot spots, but young people don't have any training on how to deal with the police."

What's the Director calling for? Another taxpayer funded program piled on top of a heap of the innefectual programs that came before?

How about we stop with the nanny state brainwashing and hold accountable parents who don't raise their children with the proper respect for society and the police and hold habitual lawbreakers accountable with a broken window philosophy of enforcement.

It's pretty simple, if you're involved in or in the proximity of something that puts you in the sphere of influence of a policeman or policewoman doing there job, you show them respect.

You don't backtalk.

You don't ignore instructions.

Even if you catch a cop in a aggressive demeanor for his or her own safety (and yours) or they are brash due to there having a bad day or by there being an Old-Bull no nonsense cop, you differ to them.

It's pretty simple and not that hard to do.

And, you should expect, you mess with the Bull, you're going to get the Horn!

If you're a guilty shitbird and don't want to get shot, read down from paragraph 10, again & again. Don't make sudden moves and if you pull out a gun, expect to get shot.

If you feel you've been really, really mis-treated you can file a complaint or tell your story to Frank Marin of the Sun-Times whom I am sure will be happy to write about it in generalities.

Something to add; as police officers we need to get the word out to correct the misuse of a "BB gun"

It's a "REPLICA HANDGUN, having identical dimensions in height, length, and width to a full sized handgun; having identical color to a blue-steel (black) handgun; having a fully functional trigger; having a bored/hollow barrel; having intricate marking along the handle, slide, sight posts and hammer."

My point? When I shoot the next shithead, I want my shooting report to include all the above-mentioned details

Write good paper, that will protect you in court

Man, you guys have it all wrong. I mean, we are supposed to know its fake, and since we know its fake we are supposed to do what we were trained to do. Either A) not shoot, or B) shoot a limb without hitting a vital point. Part of our fundamental training is graze shooting. Its where we shoot that the minimal injury is a graze. It's common knowledge out on the street that we have been trained for that. BARF I tell you. These people are insane. I think you are missing something SCC, and a lot of people don't realize is #1 Not only do we carry guns. #2 Illinois is a liberal state that hates guns. #3 When a gun is used to preserve our life, no media outlet wants it to be reflected that way. No other organization has the unique opportunity in the Continental U.S. to use guns like big city police departments. This liberal state does not want people to know what our constitutional right to bear arms would look like. A cop saving his life will never be reported in that way because guns can never be painted in a positive light. If the police are out of control, then by natural association guns will look out of control. Paint the police bad and the gullible citizen will think that the liberal government is doing him a service not allowing him to carry a weapon. After all, you don't want to be like those trigger happy police do you? Its not about an officer saving his life with a gun we know he had every right to use, or using it against a threat that presented itself. Its about scaring the citizens into thinking Guns are bad. Keep out the relevant information, keep out everything possible and lets hit that point home: No one deserves guns. Of course, no one but the elite who walk around with body guards armed to the teeth, but everyone else you can't handle a gun. You might end up like the trigger happy police.

Cops, Communities Prepare for Woodstars Festival

Politicians, police blast hasty planning of hip-hop fest and carnival.

By Deborah Kadin and Aly Brumback

8:40am

"In preparations for a hastily planned hip-hop festival, authorities will descend upon Maywood in droves, arriving by police cruiser, ATV and horseback.

"An estimated 20,000 people are expected pass through the four-day Woodstars Summer Carnival and Music Festival, which began Thursday and will run through Sunday at Proviso East High School, located at First Avenue between Washington and Madison streets.

"Law enforcement officials across the Chicagoland area say they’ve been blindsided by short preparation time for the festival...

In River Forest, police say they’re mostly concerned about parking restrictions and keeping local roads clear in case of emergencies — plans they say are better laid well in advance of a major event. Deputy Chief Craig Rutz said the department first learned about the festival last Wednesday, prompting whirlwind preparations this week.

“…It could take all of three minutes to make the streets impassable,” Rutz said. “These are issues that should have been addressed months ago.”

"A spokesman for the Cook County Sheriff's Office complained the department only received a site plan and began discussing logistics with promoters on Monday. What's more, the department only found it was working the event on Thursday..."

Forest Park robocall alerts residents to Woodstars festival traffic

Site plans finally public, heavy pedestrian and vehicular traffic expected

By NICK MORONI
Editor

"The carnival portion of the Woodstars summer festival gets underway Thursday at Proviso East High School. In anticipation of large crowds likely to come for the musical acts over the weekend, Forest Park placed an automated call Wednesday to inform residents of the event.

"The "important message" from the village advised residents that the festival, which could draw up to 20,000 people each day, is running July 28-31. It also informed Forest Parkers to stay off Madison Street west of the village, and added that the village of River Forest is closing Washington Boulevard at Thatcher and Lathrop avenues.

"We strongly encourage you to stay off of Madison if travelling west into Maywood," the message says. "Please use alternate routes such as Roosevelt Road or Lake Street."

"Since the event finally landed at Proviso East late last week, Woodstars' organizers were criticized by the Cook County Sheriff's police for shoddy planning..."

Some of this has been brought on by the mythology that suggests that cops have some special training that prevents them from making mistakes that they might otherwise make if they were mere mortals.

There are BB Guns, Airsoft guns, "repliguns" etc that are completely indistinguishable from the real thing, without holding it in your hands and giving it an up-close inspection.

So, yes. If a cop is pursuing someone and they pull that thing out, it's completely fucking ridiculous to expect them to know whether it's real or not. Anyone who thinks that has zero experience with handling these types of "fake guns".

To look at them, they are dead on accurate.

Curious if anyone else heard the "reverend" on channel 5 news,Fri. @ 4:30 stating police are trigger happy and questioning why most shootings happen in the black communities, really? Well if anyone needs to answer that then we are all idiots.
The better statement was when he attacked the police stating we were "scared". Here's a wake up call rev, most of the residents, grown men, women and children are scared living with this crime created in your areas do to the FACT of lack of family values.
Time to own up to it and work with the police and not against them like the gang bangers do.

Just was looking at the trib site where it shows how aldermen spend their $73,000 expense account in 2009, strange how a bunch of the more senior aldermen spent 30 dollars for dept of revenue fees. what costed 30 bucks back in 2009? Answer- city stickers for seniors. Stange POs get jammed up for not having city stickers but alderman get theirs payed for by the citizens.

Now we have a group of reverends stating that cops need more training to stop excessive shootings by police. The revs furthur stated that cops must be "scared" because they resort to shooting too often when they hear gun shots. These are the same folks who need the protection of the police more than anyone else in the city Go figure.

I should begin this posting, SCC, by identifying myself as a recently retired Detective of 30 years with the Chicago Police Department, and I am also African American.
I have always been proud of this organization and supportive of it even during it's lowest times. I have seen both the very good and bad of the Department, have weathered the many storms it has faced since I came on in 1981, have enjoyed it's brother/sisterhood and fraternity, have been there to mourn our loses and support our fallen members families and friends.

I say all this because I am particularly incensed at comments made by a group of "reverands", who's remarks were televised on WBBM Channel 5, 29 Jul 11 during the 6:00 pm broadcast. Some "spokesman" for the group suggested that the Chicago Police Department were neither properly trained, were not executing their assignments and were afraid/scared to do their jobs in the Black community. This clown had the audacity to say that as a result of his "observations" of police behavior in the African American community that he and his group of "holy men" would be petitioning the United States Justice Department to intervene in some fashion because they are dissatisfied with how the Chicago Police are shooting indiscriminately in the Black community.

Having been there, as a police officer who has pushed a beat car, worked Tact, several specialized units, assigned as a Detective, and as a current resident of the community, I would beg to differ with this fool and his cohorts. If he had the same opportunities I've had and seen what really goes on in some of these communities from my/our perspective, he would be loath to have spoken those words.

My disgust and revulsion at his remarks are difficult to describe. I cannot find the words to explain how much I dispise he and his kind. They are no more than leeches that feed off City programs so long as they turn out Machine votes from a constituency who care neither about themselves or their neighbors. He need only do a "ride along" for one tour of duty, have his ass shot at once, or suffer a beatdown or "punkin' head" at the hands of a member of his flock and I'm certain he would have a chance of perspective. If he actually lives in one of these communities, he is either blind or a complete liar to suggest that his "flock" are innocent and should not be treated the way they are. Just how would he expect the police to respond to being shot at or confronted with an armed offender - irrespective of race?

My point is, SCC, keep putting out the correct information and rally the troops. Once again we are on our own with our backs to the wall. While we fight daily to do our jobs, protect our brothers and sisters in arms and still come home at the end of our tour the same as we left, we need not feel ashamed for protecting ourselves or one another. WE are the only ones we have. There is no one else. We owe no one an apology and we should afford no quarter to anyone who would attempt to prevent us from doing our job or threaten our lives or those of our brothers and sisters.

This hateful rhetoric from opportunistic race pimps and politically connected community "leaders" will not abate until they themselves become victims of the very "victims" they claim to represent.

This whole thing is not about race. It about adhering to and following the law, respecting lawful authority and our established institutions, and it about moral behavior. Nothing more, nothing less.

OT: The cities political apparatus in disarray.

On one hand we have the police superintendent trying to implement a "Broken Windows" crime fighting policy where the police are suppose to "sweat the little stuff" because they believe the little stuff matters.

On the other hand we have Cook County Board President calling for the police to ignore the laws on marijuana while telling us that these cases are essentially driving the city further into debt and possible into bankruptcy.

We can't afford it!

Toni Preckwinkle To Chicago Cops: Stop Making Low-Level Drug Arrests

So what happens in response to Preckwinkle's plea one day later?

Operation MIke

--clip--

More than 50 people were served arrest warrants on charges ranging from drug possession to armed robbery to failure to register as a sex offender during a joint operation this morning by Chicago, south suburban and state police.

--end clip--

And there's more to come as the warrants are still being served I guess. We clog the courts and waste much needed manpower and taxpayers money on pot smokers.

I doubt very much that the "drug possession" that they are busting people for here is only for hard core narcotics...but I could be wrong...but I doubt it.

The real issue though is what kind of message this sends to the people and the gang bangers?

There's no unified stance. It's everymen for themselves get what you can get while you can get it.

Nevertheless there's more.

If that wasn't bad enough we have the illustrious Governor of Illinois signing into law a bill that rewards Illegal immigrants with scholarships!

How you like that for sending the message that illegal activity will not be tolerated in this sanctuary city as we are "sweating the little stuff" now eh?

Quinn to sign Illinois Dream Act for scholarship money

--clip--

[...]

A spokesman says Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn will sign a bill to allow the children of immigrants, both legal and illegal, to get private college scholarships and enroll in state college savings programs.

Quinn spokesman Grant Klinzman says the governor will sign the bill Monday.

Called the Illinois Dream Act, the measure creates a panel to raise private money for college scholarships. Supporters say this will help illegal immigrants who graduate from Illinois high schools go on to college because they may otherwise not be able to afford it.

--end clip--

We must help the Illegals! Got that?

Forget about the people trying hard to play by all the rules. We must help the illegals!

There you have it.

Let the shoot outs and the illegal activity continue.

Two Men Arrested in Miami After One Punches Pilot on SFO-Bound Flight

[...]

Jonathan and Luis Baez, both of Las Piedras, Puerto Rico, were arrested at Miami International Airport. They had been aboard American Airlines Flight 1755 bound for San Francisco on Wednesday night, according to an arrest affidavit

While the plane taxied away from the gate, a flight attendant noticed 27-year-old Jonathan Baez was sleeping and had not buckled his seat belt, police said. She tried to wake him, but she told police that Baez was unresponsive and appeared to be intoxicated or on drugs.

The pilot turned the plane around and returned to gate D51.

"As we always do with these things, we'd much rather deal with it on the ground than in the air," American Airlines spokesman Tim Smith said Thursday.

The pilot and flight attendant then woke up Baez and told him to get off the plane, police said.

"He was apparently barely compliant at that point," Smith said. "He was exhibiting symptoms of intoxication. He was not walking well when he went up the aisle."

Luis Baez, 29, decided to join his brother as he was being escorted off the plane. As the brothers walked toward the aircraft's exit door, they became belligerent, and Luis Baez told the pilot, "When you fly to San Juan I will have you killed," according to the arrest report.

The brothers walked off the plane, but then Jonathan Baez returned and punched the pilot in the face and hit the flight attendant in the shoulder when she tried to intervene, police said.

Both brothers attacked the pilot again in the jet bridge and chased him in the terminal, according to the arrest report.

Other flight crew members and passengers held down the brothers until police arrived.

"There was a scuffle that took place, so about three or four of us went out there and tackled the guys. There were two of them and I guess the pilot ended up with some contusions on his face. So we just did what we needed to do to help out," Ken Venting .....

Hollister Colostomy Bags?

I recall working CTA special on Chicago Ave one hot July 3rd watch shift some years ago. It looked like a convention of motorized wheelchair salesmen with all the young thugs and their paralyzing GSW's motoring up and down Chicago Ave from about 3600 - 3800 W. in their nice shiny 'guvment paid for battery powered wheelchairs.

It was one of those west side moments most people never get a chance to appreciate or comprehend. Like a big old ghetto ride tooling along on one tire with air, one flat tire and two bare steel rims with sparks flying, driver grinning like it's Christmas.

My partner and I took a bb gun off of a kid 2 weeks ago. It had the weight very similar to a real gun, had a fake magazine, chrome and black looking finish, no orange "safety" tip and only had the name of the toy company printed very small (in black letters on the black finish background) on the handle. If necessary, I would have shot someone holding it. Tried to explain that to mama, but it was like banging your head against a wall. Lesson leanred by all. Great job Officers.

To Mary Mitchell....

Since you decided to weigh in today I would like to ask you to explain a few things

You write regarding SCC...
"The site also posted a photograph of Jimmell".

Why did you purposly omit the photo shows Jimmell throwing up gang signs?

Then you write..
"it would appear to violate the juvenile’s rights"

Can you please fill us all in on what rights have been violated?

If a guardian cannot be found or refuses to come in during questioning then a youth officer
and sits in on the interview. Standard procedure and within state law.

And finally "Without it, many of the people in neighborhoods most affected by police shootings will see this incident as another stone tossed onto a growing mountain of distrust."

Well let me ask YOU this..You have stated many times in prior columns and appearances on Chicago Tonight that you come from a the projects "D.B.'s" if I remember correctly, and that you have kinfolk involved in the drug trade. Certainly you must have seen how children from these environments are raised to believe the Police are the boogeyman who do nothing but take mamma and daddy to jail.

It is not my responsibility to erase generations of brainwashing of blacks by their own community and I will never attempt to do so.

That is a problem in the black community and up to them to solve

Hello from Arizona. It is expected that your liberal paper would print such a slanted version of the facts. Forget about the evidence of the truth of what really happened and the officer who was facing this weapon at night who had to make a split second decision if this is a real gun or not. Bottom line is we all know he made the right call and his training kicked in to automatic mode.

In Phoenix or any other city the perp could expect the same response. The parents of this gangbanger are either extremely naive about their childs activities or they are absentee parents.

Looking at the weapon recovered I have no doubt I would have done the same thing. He would get a "drop the weapon" and then I would assist him in doing so. Good shooting in my opinion.

If people are interested I will pursue this. I will set up a holdings company with little to no assets and a low cash flow (for possible law suit reasons). I will have that holdings company start and own a real and factual Chicago newspaper. I can handle the business end and possibly some stories. But I would need help from others for stories and other paper content. We could set it up as a 1 day a week paper at first and see where it goes. If it goes nowhere we only loose our time and some printing costs associated with the copies we ran. I would be willing to gamble a few thousand at first to see where it goes but I would rather not risk much more than that. I am not a cop. I have CPD in my blood. I am a former member of the armed forces and I currently own a few businesses. I will watch the postings. If people are interested in helping in any way post it. If there is interest (postings) I will set up an email address solely for getting us together to coordinate our approach. I will say that if anyone wants to be involved just to make money off this don’t bother. Startup companies even with low overhead take a long time to get out of the red.

It's the only way they think they can guilt-trip the rest of society into giving them what they want instead having a desire to reap the true benefit of joining the rest of society by virtue of hard work, delayed gratification etc.
