Stoners Welcome

  • The Chicago Police Department has quietly relaxed its hiring standards to eliminate past marijuana use as an automatic disqualifier, provided candidates have not smoked pot in the last three years, the chairman of the city’s Human Resources Board disclosed Friday.

Testifying before the City Council’s Committee on Workforce Development, Chairman Salvador A. Cicero also disclosed that the three-member board is seeing a lot of appeals from police candidates who have been disqualified for using Adderall.

That’s an addictive drug that works as a stimulant and is used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and the sleeping disorder narcolepsy.
How about a compromise? If cops can smoke dope, they'll all be waaaaaaay to mellow to chase criminals. And if they increase their Twinkie intake, they'll be too overweight to chase anyway.

And they'd die earlier which would save the pension! Holy crap, we're GENIUSES! Someone call Rahm.

This is because a certain demographic that they need to hire is disproportionately eliminated under the past standards. This same group is also having the same issues with criminal backgrounds. Look for the surge in scandals in a few years. We never learn.

But of course! Don't tell me you did not see that coming..
The whole idea is going Bob Marley all over the City. Soon weed will be legal and we're gonna be one happy nation.
Seriously speaking, that is the most destroying news. The morale among police has been falling already. You wanna bet, how many of those freshly recruited will keep smoking?
This is continuous plan to eliminate police power to zero. Regardless of the number recruited. If you understand what I mean.
Dear officers, it is high time to change something. As long as you have among you ass lickers who don't care for their brothers and sisters in blue but only for money and careers it is gonna get worse and worse.
First of all you need to find strong, responsible and brave leaders to represent you. Then you need a plan. I don't see anyone who can beat Rahm. Maybe you have somebody among you.
If I knew there is a candidate who comes from CPD and is strongly supported by all officers I would vote for her/him. And so would all people who believe in law. And believe in order. Why you all think it is not possible?
Today I had conversation with my kids. They are small boys. I said we will be waving and smile to every police car we're passing. For I believe in education in early age. Education what is right and wrong. Teaching kids to respect police, not to fear you.
I always think, what if one day they want to join the forces. I want them to be among honest, proud men who protect the law and can be trusted.
FOP should me more active and visible. Especially now when so many bad things are going on and officers need support. Residents should be more organized in supporting police. Lots of things should change.
But no, this City is doing everything to break all good that is left.
And cure it with weed.
Officers, keep the morale up. There are tons of people supporting you. We just work hard, pay our taxes and don't have time to march every day. But we are grateful for your presence and effort.
Those people who call you names and jump on your cars are too stupid to realize, once they are hurt there will be no one to help them.
Except you.

Rahm looks like a reformer of police. COPA appears to be doing their jobs. These dumbass hires are all just future cannon fodder. *ta-da*

The last acceptable marijuana use for Seattle, Hartford and New Haven is 12 months. I found that while reading the report on reassessing marijuana standards to screen potential police recruits in Maryland. According to the report, Alaska, New Hampshire, Idaho and South Dakota all use the 12 month rule. The author is a former Obama policy advisor. Kind of interesting to read anyway. https://www.abell.org/sites/default/files/files/Abell%20Police%20Marijuana%20Report_9_14%20WebVersion.pdf

They are destroying the police profession. Why should anyone do the right thing anymore. When you can just do anything and get rewarded. Also doesn’t Rahm appoint the Police Board members. Rahm strikes again.

As a retiree, I have a part-time gig conducting background investigations with Kentect, the company that the CPD has outsourced for new CPD applicants. In half the cases that I interviewed an applicant, I was totally floored and embarrassed by some of the applicant's past history (and some current history) of drug use, driving violations, tattoo's and a life style when doing a home visit that is nothing short of "trailer park" trash living.

I have included in a few of my reports that this applicant falls extremely short of meeting the goals and objectives of a applicant let alone a future CPD officer. Guess what...your hired!

Past marijuana use MAY not automatically disqualify an applicant from consideration. If past history is any indication of how this City works, you can bet that it’s just another tool that they will use to tell sons and daughters of current officers to take a hike. Just like military service by SOME shows a tendency toward violence when we are teaching deescalation, marijuana use by SOME will show a tendency toward addiction.
Bet we’re in Federal Court within three years over this decision.

Seems like a reasonable compromise. Ahlcohol is by far more addictive and problematic especially for those who drink heavily on work nights. The community will be better off having less police officers making faulty judgments due to impaired decisions that could result in loss of life.

I'm guessing there haven't been many cops hired over the last 50 years that havent smoked weed at some point. I'd been to plenty of Watch parties in the pre drug testing Era and there was plenty of Marijuana used as well as other stuff. During my interview before being hired i fessed up and told the truth ,that i had tried it in high school, the personnel investigator shrugged his shoulders and said no big deal. This was in the 80s.As faras Adderall goes it's a legally prescribed pharmaceutical that helps with certain conditions. It's really helped a family member of mine out with no noticeable bad effects. I personally feel the less drugs used the better, but realize not everyone is as perfect as me and some need chemical assistance at some point.

Rahm’s HR Diversity Outreach search has scraped and scraped and reached bottom of the barrel, so now he’s ordered his minions to look under it.
The weed is a socially accepted natural refreshment, for some.

If I gave up weeds and pills, juice’n beans or even harron to get this job, my only accepted choice of acheiving some mental mood enhancement after work is alcohol, in moderation of course.
What’s to prevent a return to weeds and pills?

They already dumbed up the exams and now what measured qualities should be expected from a former illegal drug user?
Can former street thug gang members really be trusted?
They’re allowing YouTubering recruit to act out now and we all know what goes on with that industry, so I guess weed users are feeling a bit left out of the Special Ed hiring plan.
And it’s not everybody, but some.

Police officer candidates get disqualified if they've ever smoked cannabis years ago, yet it's cool if they go home every night and suck down a case of beer. Makes perfect sense. When will society wake up and realize that alcohol is way more harmful than cannabis? Legalize it, tax it, and use the money to fully fund the pension systems. After that it's all gravy. And yeah, enforce the DUI laws including those under the influence of cannabis.

This is the direct result of the PERF (Police Executive Research Forum) recommendations that are laid out for all to see in their publication "Hiring for the 21st Century Law Enforcement Officer".

PERF advocates easing up on marijuana use as a disqualifier and one of CPD's own was quoted in the article as follows:

"Finally, in addition to marijuana use, some forum participants raised the issue of Adderall, a prescription
drug used to treat narcolepsy and attention deficit hyperactivity disorders (ADHD). Barbara West, Chief
of Support Services for the Chicago Police Department, noted that Adderall use has recently increased in
popularity among college students who use the drug without a prescription to remain awake and
focused, especially during exam periods. Agencies, especially those that have a higher education
requirement for applicants, should monitor this issue and possibly adjust their policies accordingly."

So basically, everybody's doing it now and if we have strict standards we won't be able to hire anyone. SMH.

I'm too lazy to look up specifics, but FBI relaxed their standards regarding past weed use a few years back too.

I would have zero problem with weed being legal and regulated and cops being able to use it off duty some hours prior to going on duty.

As for adderall I don't know squat about it, but MIGHT be willing to say something similar regarding prior use or even current use if it was prescribed. Depends on what the science says.

My family has pharmacists, 3 to be exact and we talked about this, and they said so many children are being taken to doctors because of parents not knowing how to parent, and the RX for Ritalin, and adderall, is blowing off the shelves! Then so many mostly women in their fifties are on prozac, and zoloft it is skyrocketing! This world is so "unsettled" that people are looking to have anything to calm them down, and addicting their children! Look at some of the top schools,Walter Payton<Lyons Township, and naperville schools for example so many kids hooked on prescription pills and they are concerned about marijuana?

Look at the quality of the recruits coming on,some to fat to pass the simple power teat (But then take a secret private class and then they pass), or the goofy girl with no bullets in her gun,I can remember few years ago when we had some stand up bosses the copper fired for "cowardliness," who left her partner near 55th and California and was fired! But now we have bosses who are promoted as cowardliness,is obviously a qualification, witness Eddie holding arms with flaky and jesse on the Dan ryan!

Yes will give you examples of bosses who were not liked but who got the job done! John Townsend, John Corliss, and in 008th district the famous Harley Schinker, many coppers did not like them but they feared them as they backed us up and got the job done!

1 example on beat 811, the area was tagged with gang graffiti over 30 years ago,and Harley and Captain tony Ivanjack (who was made commander of 012), put a plan together. they knew the tagging and gang assholes were doing this between 200-0500 hours so they changed the hours of tact teams, 6 cars were up,and then they took 1 car per sector, put them up,and 2 traffic cars, and 3 (when we had 3 wagons), all in that area for 2 weeks straight, the result was arrests, vehicles towed and the problem was solved at that time! Maybe the commander of 008 could learn how to be the boss and try something like this with all the catalytic and car thefts occurring here?

Everyone knows "the job is not like before" but we can still take care of the areas where many coppers live, and people support the police and pay their taxes, like west ends of 008,016,022 right?

God bless the police,be safe and remember watch your 6 and make sure you always back up blue no matter how you may feel about another copper we are all we have!

You honestly think someone should be disqualified because they experimented with pot five or six years ago while in high school? I’m not advocating for even allowing casual users onto the department, but you take a couple hits from peer pressure and you’re 15 and you’re banned?

7/21/2018 05:48:00 AM

That's the deal so far, however, the millennials will eventually change it. To them, tattoos and blaze are mainstream.

Yes will give you examples of bosses who were not liked but who got the job done! John Townsend, John Corliss, and in 008th district the famous Harley Schinker, many coppers did not like them but they feared them as they backed us up and got the job done!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Corliss was WC in the district I was assigned to straight out of the academy. He called my name at my very 1st roll call and I boomed, "Here sir!". Then, realizing I was a PPO, he said , "Uh, wait a minute" and decided who was going to be my FTO, and then recalled my name. I responded, "Still here, sir!". The room which was already silent, waiting for the explosion, but then, without skipping a beat, he went on to call other names. Priceless!!!

Worked with Harley in a unit, and I'll give that asshole this much credit, he told me what he wanted in my area of responsibility, and I did my job without him looking over my shoulder, and that was that! Gave me control and I took it by the reigns and never heard a peep out of him. His tag along Lt. was a J.O. and you, who know, will agree with that.

Shortly before I took the original test, a trib article, of considerable length, quoted the C.O. of the academy saying, " Those who use dope, don't realize or understand, that most people are not of their culture, and freely admit that they have done illegal drugs, thinking that drug useage is the norm." I took that to heart and though my appearance would have suggested otherwise, I swore I never touched, smoked, used, or ingested, anything that was outside of the law. I was in the 1st class off of the test!
Silly story: Friend of mine admitted to having once owned a pound of hashish, thinking that this would show how honest he was. Guess the outcome of that line of thinking?

Although I have used marijuana, hashish, all manner of pain medication, (I like Dialaudid and Demerol best), cocaine, meth, morphine and heroin (Those were the days) I have not used any of that stuff in over ten years. Diet Coke is all I use now. I will forsake all of that, of course, if I can get a job on the Police Department. Oh, I don't drink either! Friend of Bill Wilson, you know. Wow, I can't wait, sounds like fun!

Just legalize it and tax the shit out of it. Proud smoker for many years and can't wait to smoke again. Always prefer dealing with someone stoned than some drunk idiot. Alcohol is so much worse for the body than marijuana.

My tin foil hat theory....A drugged up population is easier to control. The Marxists/progressive democrats will (are) slowly take control of the nation without firing a shot. Lenin, Stalin and Mao would be proud.

7/21/2018 11:37:00 AM

If only you had an adjustable focus tin foil hat.....

The word -drug- is as generic as the word -food-, and makes the reference to being "drugged up" as nonspecified as being "well fed".

Even the word -booze- has more specificity, the reference having the commonality of alchohol content of some percentage.

The variety of "drug" substances rivals the variety of base "food" substances.

It is the biological, aka physical and sense perceptional effects of these substances we call "drugs", both during their effecting presence within the body, any residual, lingering effects after said substance(s) have been substantially metabolized out of the body, as well as any alterative effects the body has experienced, which are one means to determine desirable/undesirable assessment of each specific "drug's" effect(s).

Just as base food substances can, and are, assssed as to their desirable/undesirable effects upon the body ingesting same, "drugs", even those currently classified as substances deemed neccessary to control via law, are essentially effect defined.

The variations between the effects of any specific "drug" substance on individual bodies, as is similiar with "food" substances, are minimal enough to not preclude reasonably accurate conclusions concerning practical assessments of said effects.

The primary criteria here seems to be that of conflict between two requirements:

1. The profession is enforcing the law.

2. The law prohibits the consumption of defined substances.

Thus, were the law to prohibit the consumption of, say, popcorn, no matter the brand, all those proven to have ingested popcorn would be both in violation of law and unfit to be employed enforcing law.

(Yeah, a silly analogy, but, hey, complain to SCC, if you are actually reading this.....)

Since the effective issue on this subject IS the above, whatever other considerations concerning "drugs" are rendered MOOT. As in, does not matter.

Simply stated: To be employed to ENFORCE law, you may not have been, or be, VIOLATING law.

Why have any "standards" at all? CPD hasn't had any standard for promotion in years. Most of our bosses are too dumb to pass an honest test so the answer is have only dishonest tests. Or in the case of so called "Merit" promotions Lardass Ed just appoints anybody at all. Just as long as an Alderthief, a crooked Mayor, a halfwit Rev, or a sidepiece demands it. See? Simple. The CPD reminds one of that old commerical of the guy in the boat, in a toilet, slowly swirling down into the sewer. Thanks democRATS!

And to the nitwit praising Harley Schinker, you write for the Onion, don’t you? That fat, dumb fuck. I won’t even get into his lack of ethics. Harley couldn’t think his way out of a paper bag without Townsend or Hoke to tell him where the opening was. He was nothing that a donut couldn’t fix.
