- PRIDE weekend
- five days over the Fourth (on a Thursday?)
- NASCAR
- a week of Lolla
And we haven't even touched on the Air and Water / Billiken double weekend, all in a run up to the DNC $hitshow.
How long until we hear the media whining about another year of massive overtime costs....ignoring the fact that these are CANCELLED DAYS OFF. We didn't ask for them - they were forced on the Department by inept political action (or inaction).

So to-froms to retain RDOs getting denied also now ! With no real criteria set forth as to who gets denied or who gets approved !You get the chance to have your RDOs fall on a holiday weekend every 5 years or so and now you are forced to work them ! I get hitting the medical but what if you have a small trip planned ? Sorry no life for you as the city needs to host another event !!! How about not hosting these events if you don't have the resources !!!!By the way I wouldn't even hit the medical, I just wouldn't show up period !

None of these events are an emergency situation, natural disaster, etc. All should be considered as triple time for everyone who's day off is cancelled.
Once it becomes more expensive to fuck with the coppers schedules instead of hiring more, they'll hire more. Negating the need to cancel days off (well at least as much).

Why was the 3rd of July cancelled for midnights and days? Why is the 5th cancelled? Why is nascar cancelled? We can understand the 4th of July, but why the rest? This is why people become disgruntled. There’s no need to cancel those days off and there’s no “immediate emergency.” It’s all “just in case something might happen.” So why are they allowed to just arbitrarily cancel our days off like this. When does it end? This pattern and practice is what drives people to suicide, depression, medical roll use, quitting the job, not coming on the job to begin with. I have become the biggest opponent to people wanting to come on this job. If anyone asks me or I have the opportunity to tell anyone I tell them how bad it is. Don’t ever ever come on this job or let your kids join this department. We are treated inhumanly. How many times do we have to yell that this IS A PROBLEM! No matter what we say or dr sobol or anyone else, the department just does not give a shit about you and they prove that every single summer.

Forced overtime is what happens when the available manpower hours doesn't meet the requirements. Hiring additional workers is time consuming and expensive.
I hear all kinds of rumors about manpower. Wasn't there supposed to be a mass exodus of retirements leading up to the convention? Is that happening?
What about new hires? Let's face it: the city police department is not an attractive option. The public vilification and scrutiny. The general quality of life in the city. A criminal justice system that has been deactivated allowing criminals to run wild. There are no safe areas in the city. In the last few years there has been at least 4 officers have fallen victim to attacks while just being. The housing prices are ridiculous. And on top of that the real estate taxes push housing affordability out of the reach of the workforce.
And the school system needs to be shut down and completely restructured.
The city of Chicago is not an attractive place to live.
According to the 8 minutes Officer Wellness training this year, this is just an opportunity for a “growth” mindset. Just think of it as an opportunity.
An opportunity to find a way to get the fuck out of this toxic department.
I can remember the distant past, when it was a really big deal to cancel days off.

You got that right but and after that roll it into a nice IOD that needs tending to. Don’t owe this city or department a damn thing.
What we have here is a failure to communicate. These bosses don’t give a shit about you. Once they become management it’s over. They become like the rest, uncaring or mean natured and always worried about the bottom line. I saw some just plain stupid and totally lazy folks pass right by the rest of us hard chargers that we shared the same roll calls with and then they became our bosses. Just awful. It’s worse now with fewer officers and the constant strain that are put upon them. More money is being made but at what cost. There is a life after CPD just make it to the finish line. Happy and safe 4th to the troops out there.
They say this is why we get dury availability. The fire department also gets one; they don’t get their days off cancelled. For The amount of days we get canceled , our duty availability should be more. In fact, the fire department has a me too clause as well as the Sgt union in their contract. I’m surprised FOP hasn’t argued that this affects our own contract negotiations since the city will not negotiate in good faith since whatever they give Chicago police Department, they will have to give to the fire department as well as the cpd sergeants. We essentially are negotiating for them.
Snelling and Hein complete trash. Neither has worked the street in their lives. One hid at the academy and the other kissed every other bosses ass like Godsel. They bith know what we are about to go through with the DNC and they continue to cancel days off. These two are worse than Brown and McDermott

Same as the guys before them and the guys before them. Nothing ever changes. Events like NASCAR and Lolla should let guys and gals from the burbs come up and work OT. Save our bodies for where they are needed.
That Billiken parade is way over manned. I can see using police to control traffic at some intersections, but S&S barricades everywhere else for traffic and crowd control. The city gave them a permit that they can have the streets for their parade. What they do with the streets is their business as long as their not breaking any laws. Why are we standing along the line of march asking folks to stay behind the curb. That should be the parade organizers job. They can hire folks to do that. If the folks can’t control their own parade for their own folks than they should not have it. This goes for all parades. These aren’t CPD parades. Are folks so out of control they can’t even enjoy their own parade without police being involved. But, I guess I know the answer.

Too many people working in non essential functions far fro n the best car reality of the job. Most of the inside spots and the districts could be civilians. Absolutely no reason that full duty officers have to be doing those jobs. Those doing those jobs would tell you otherwise buts they’re wrong. No one is touching super top secret information. The utter sheer terror of hundreds would get launched back to beat cars would be fucking classic. Days off cancelled is directly related that the watches on the street have been robbed. Cops Avoiding Police Situations (CAPS) needs to be civilians. HQ needs civilians not sworn. SDSC, DIO and the front offices could all be civilians
The Feds are done asking actual and legitimate questions of our Exempt Hierarchy and getting nothing but Word Salad. Was at a meeting Not that long ago, when Larry was coming in to be the boss from the gym, they were talking about bringing back, retired coppers for the inside spots so they started with a contract to teach constitutional policing over 100 using federal money were brought back, but then, again, the children that were friends of Larry’s at the Academy got jealous and wanted those jobs for their families. They were friends on the job so they terminated the contract and brought in over 100 inexperienced coppers to teach the program. Then what happened the experience coppers sitting in the classrooms, realized that their last best arrest was maybe a DUI many said fuck it. So now you have more inside desk dollies than ever full duty coppers should be on the street they are needed. We would welcome you back.

Contrary to what you think most police OTJ now don’t make this their total identity and actually enjoy time spent away from work.
